One of my favorite Ravi songs. This came out in 87 I believe. How cool was this?!!? He was rockin out at the ass end of the 80s...well...always he is rocking out
I think this is a fantastic recording, like most by Ravi. I especially like more experimental ones that try to bridge various cultures and traditions, essentially creating new ones as they do so. Progression is the natural course of humans or we'd still be hanging from trees. And today's venerated traditions are yesterday's radical innovations. As long as people keep propagating, new minds will continue to enter and reshape our existence our world and society. Let the cycle go on, I say.
The bassist is apparently Patrick O' Hearn. I got this from the liner notes of the Ravi in Celebration box set (now out of print.) This track is also on that collection, which is where I first heard it.

What is that bass sounding string instrument, just a fretless electric bass guitar, or is it a low frequency string instrument from India?

But why the hell does he swear, and cries "chharpoka", "aarsholaa" etc? Chharpoka is a bug, aarshola means cockroach!

It is an experimental excursion...and I think...if you are open minded...very successful.

Yeah, Ravi's just trippin' in the sitar ether.
Give the worlds' greatest musician break.
He knows how to play traditional raga to perfection & beyond.
Just having a little fun here, I'd say :)
Ravi branched out in many ways and I'd say it has been of great benefit to those of us in the western world that he has.
