When dehydrating cabbage,, chop to size you want and thendrop in boiling water for one minute.. then remove and put in ice water.. drain and dehydrate.. it reconstitutes a whole lot better.. Happy Dehydrating!
i tried drying celery n cabbage umpty-dump yrs ago n got the same results u did. i don't like frozen celery either, so i took 2 canning my celery n i like it just fine. i appreciate ur videos n getting a real big kick out of all the men i see on yt cookin' n cannin ' n gardenin'. when i grew up, 2/3 of that was 'wimmen's work' when i had only sons i made them all learn 2 do all the things i was taught. they mostly don't do the food preservation part, but they knew, so its not my boggle, lol. GB
Just like canning, dehydrating has it's rules too. On some veggies you need to blanch, toss into boiling water for about 30-45 seconds. It makes all the difference in the world. Onions are another veggie you should blanch too. Anyway, Tammy at Dehydrate2store is fantastic, and I even purchased the Excalibur, and it is much better than the round dehydrators I used to have. I store entire dehydrated soups in canning jars, add my canned meat, and I have stew, soup, or any dinner I want. Fast too
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll be adding more videos soon, I'll be sure to add one showing what I've learned about dehydrating cabbage, carrots, celery and onions.
Look up dehydrate2store. She is fantastic. She shows you how to dehydrate celery and everything else for that matter. I can lots of food but over the last 2 years I've started dehydrating more and it is pretty easy to cook with it. No one can tell the food has been dehydrated!
Sam the best way for the celery and some other veggies is to do a blanch, drain them then dehydrate ..I do that with my celery and the smell and taste is still there..Dehydrate to store is excellent...I love my dehydrator soups and stews all thrown in the pot in no time..I also dehydrate ground beef..Yummy...LOL...Thanks.
Hey! Thanks for the great video. I've tried bananas and apples as well as jerky in my dehydrator. Then bananas turned out nasty, but the apples were really good. Jerky is always good. Use the small screen that came with your dehydrator for the celery.
I tried dehydrating cabbage 2-3 years ago and it stuck to the dehydrator really bad and had a burnt taste. never even tried to rehydrate or cook with it. My dehydrator didn't have a fan in it tho, it was el cheepo. Nice that it worked for you!
Dehydrate2store also has some great vids on dehydrating. She also has a website and dehydrates about everything you can think of. I found the celery really has to cook for a while, but I've made celery salt by grinding the celery in a coffee grinder and adding salt. Tomatoes is my next project, to dehydrate and powder. Then it can be used as a paste, sauce, soup etc depending on how much water is added back to it.
Thanks for the heads up on the dehydrating channel! I always preferred canning too, until I discovered Tammy at the dehydrate2store YouTube channel. It's an incredible resource on how to prepare and cook with dehydrated foods. Long term storage ideas too. I started with her 1st video and was hooked! You might like to check her out, she's a great teacher and a wealth of knowledge.
How long had you let that celery cook. I never have a problem with it. Yeah, stuff does fall through sometimes. lol I dehydrated 17 pounds of potatoes on Saturday, then vacuum sealed them in jars. Their great to have.
FINALLY !!! I can give you a cooking tip yeeehawww. Fry the cabbage in a fryin pan with salt and pepper n about light to medium oil. It's great with pork chops. Fry it till its medium dark. It's mmm mmm good!!!
nice video iron head sinc ei dont know what else to call u hmm maybe fossil? haha u could always do apples and bannannas did i put enough nana? anyways nice video im glad i subbed to you!

The way you are waving that knife around, it's a good thing you didn't add any fingers to that celery mix ;)

I'll stick to homemade sourkraut with the cabbage. Celery will kill ya! It takes more calories to digest than what you get outta it. HeHeHe.
