This song has a really cool story behind it. Rick Smith thought he had completely lost the ability to make good music. His wife told him otherwise, sent him to his studio made of salvaged gear in the back bedroom, and told him to not come out until he wrote something good. One hour later he returned with this!
I will be coming back here and hitting the like button for ever and ever! 43 now, going to Funny Skin New Years Rave in Southend soon! FEKIN' 'AVE IT!!!!!
oh my my how cud i forget u TUNE thats all easy its PROPA thats wot it is , fantastic heard craig walsh play it 1st i think in birmingham oh cant remember the name of the club be bak on that one sorry oh tomislav was the resident n ROCKY was the manager top bloke spoilt us rotten top night out the institution i think it was called all the mirrors looked cracked n then off to wobble propa nite out wi propa people fantastic
I think heaven will be a giant rave with this song playing . . . It's nearly ten minutes long, I've listened to it probably 100 times and yet I still feel a sadness every time it ends because it doesn't go on forever. It hits the deepest chords of the human soul without a single word, this is the stuff that transcends language.
This was the anthem of my youth. When I woke up and found myself, found my heart and my courage, this was the song that was playing.
I'm older now, and my idealism fading, but this is still a track that makes me grin and believe that life is-- when you get down to it-- just so sweet.
I remember this tune bein played at The Mecca of Techno too from the all mighty CJ Bolland 1995/96 (Jeff Mills couldn't make it) nevertheless what a night! Sweat flooding down from the celling and I could swear the thing were bouncing a meter up and down to this tune lol. Levitating over to the balcony and giving it some proper! Another time we rolled into Morley a little too late so decided to try Back2Basics in Leeds - and who's playing a live gig that night? Underworld :)

Used to play this at clubs in Nottingham and Lincoln years ago and this never failed, full stop.... closely followed by my other copy of the other side - Cowgirl, mixed in perfectly of course! Nights to remember.......

Vanilla Sky all the way. There's a dream where i am alone screaming in the middle of New York City. No fights no hate no Judgments no lies no pain just me alone & no one else. Love? what is love? more pain than pleasure more hurtful than joyful. Being alone isn't a bad thing. No drama no bullshit to deal with no worry's about getting dumped or getting hurt/getting lied to. Life is about doing what you gotta do in life your goals & dreams. Getting some desires maybe a couple one night stands. GOO
along with Chime this is possibly as good as it gets, just f*cking love this track so much, makes me think of a time when my only concern was the feeling that you got inside when listening to music like this and the stupid knowing grin that spread right across your face as it peaked leaving you with only the ability to nod and smile.
This is seriously the most genuine and probably the very best comment I have ever seen on youtube. Thanks for sharing yourself. I COMPLETELY identify with your comment. Peace
The first track that made me realise that dance music could be intelligent and subtle and not just full in your face piano chords. was on XL recordings volume 4, I was about 14 and I think it is safe to say that this song changed my musical preferences more than just about any other particular track: well done underworld!
I remember being at The Orbit listening to Sven Vath in 1996, all through the set the lighting guys were gradually turning off lights, one by one until he played this really deep track that just had a kick, sub-bass and and a high hat with one white light flashing; then it stopped, into complete darkness and this came on. Everyone was cheering and whistling, when the drums came in there were explosions on stage and all the lights went mental. God, I used to live for moments like that!
The World Cup winning Brazilian soccer team of 1994 entered the stadium in Palo Alto, California, in a group game against Russia, to this track. They were holding hands in a chain, as they do, to represent national unity.
fucking hell....i heard this track the first time i took pills in 2004 and it was like the ideal song to listen to when e'ing. tripped out to hear it 5 years later. i miss the old days.
not really, definitely a seperate track, you're right though they do sound the same. but then sometimes groups/artists have a sound that carries itself across on a few've their productions
They were released as Rez/Cowgirl on Junior Boys Own Records JBO13.
So they are extensions of each other I guess but I still prefer this.....only tune after playing someone had been taken so far back he was almost tearful when I came out of the booth he said simply "thank you, that was the first 12" I ever bought" most touching moment in my DJing career....
Electronic music at its very best. First time i heard it i popped up like a meerkat on a mission.
