  • What do you think of this unit? I am thinking of getting this. How does this compare to like a pro 96 from radio shack?

  • BCD396XT, What's this? help me !!! the frequency changes but most

the audio is encoded, "I hear so crackling" ... I hear only one side of the communication another part is encoded. the radio is defective or is configuration. How to make the correct configuration ?

  • One more thing on these scanners:

The software that's available for these high-end models is really wonderful. There's so much you can do with these scanners when coupled with the proper software. For example, My PSR-600 (Pro-197) runs 24/7 and I can stream the information to the Intnernet where I can either monitor it using my Motorola Droid smart-phone, or using another computer anywhere else, monitor and control my scanner remotely as if I were sitting right there in front of it. Cool stuff!

  • im thinking of buying the radio shack digital police scanner here pretty soon

  • @thomas242007 I have the model your talking about buying and I love mine. I have both the PRO-197 (base model) and the PRO-106 portable and they are absolutely great scanners (actually the 197 & 106 are in fact the same radio, only one is base/mobile and the other is a portable). Both models use the same software and also use the same firmware upgrades.

However, the Uniden series are also high quality scanners as well, and you should review the benefits of each brand for your own needs :)

  • @thebakerman1 yeah i got the pro 160 i think it is or whatever the portable triple trunking scanner is from radio shack, i love it but the digital of what ive heard on here comes in clearer it just kinda bugs me that it cost damn near 600 bucks, not to mention the cost of a digital antanae extention digital stuff always seems to cost more, usually better quality though so i guess thats why, do you know if the coverage area is bigger or about the same?

  • @thomas242007 Coverage is the same. One of the advantages of digital is it eliminates fringe reception, as digital is either there or it isn't there. Although there are a lot of arguments over how well digital systems perform vs. analog, digital is definitely here to stay.

Yes indeed, digital scanners cost quite a bit more than non-digital scanners. This is my 2nd digital scanner (my 1st was the Pro-96). I sold that in favor of my current PSR-600 (same as Pro-197), which is fantastic :)

  • @thomas242007 It's hard to justify that much money on just a scanner, but if it's something you really want and intend to use a lot and keep for a long time then it's worth it in my opinion. Even with that mindset it's STILL a lot of money (believe me, I don't earn a lot of money), but after you've had it for a short time and really see the true benefits of having that type of scanner, it's much easier to feel your money was well spent. Digital scanners also do a lot with the optional software.

  • @thomas242007 the pro 197 is great use that as my base and at 399 you cant beat it

  • @czbaby12 yeah ive heard nothing but things about them lately but theyre damn near 600 bucks for 1, but its a handy tool to know whats going on in the area thats for sure
