I am HUGE Sienfeld fan. I cannot count the number of times I have watched the show but honestly, up until this moment I did NOT notice that Larry left 2 seasons before the show ended its run. To me, its not to say Larry didn't make any difference, but he left such a strong legacy that even after left, people could do almost as good. Talk about inspiration. Last 2 seasons weren't 'crap' or can be skipped. They're quite as brilliant as others.. let's face it. Jerry Sienfeld did a very good job!
Jerry did a great job in the last two seasons, but there's no doubt that the show wasn't quite a same: the storylines just felt a bit too nutty and even a bit conventional at times (Larry's off-beat touch was dearly missed). Nevertheless, it was still the best thing on TV all the way until the end.
@taillebasse1 uh thats actually not true. larry david is way funnier but jerry seinfeld is FAR more well known than larry david. you can't even argue that
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think the final two seasons were just as good as the rest of the series. Personally, I think "Curb Your Enthusiasm " is overrated. I think it is a good program not a great one.
I would much rather watch an episode of "Seinfeld" than "Curb Your Enthusiasm" any day!
Larry seems like such a cool down-to-earth guy that you'd want to hang with. What I like about him is that he hasn't let fame turn him into a pompous a-hole or anything.
I think any fairminded person who has seen Curb Your Enthusiasm must admit Larry David was the true talent and genius behind Seinfeld, moreso than Jerry himself. In fact, after he left the series, it became less edgy, less offbeat. The quality of the writing declined. It was "mainstreamed" which to me made it less artistic and creative. By definition mainstreaming something generally destroys its edge. The show should have been called Larry David rather than Seinfeld. Jerry gets too much credit.
@EdwardJellico I disagree, you can't think that Larry David would have made "Curb" if he never met Jerry Seinfeld, curb is just Larry doing Seinfeld again, not that it isn't great, but he's just doing the same thing over that he already knows works
I think Curb is what Larry originally wanted for Seinfeld. They are so similar in so many ways, only Seinfeld has Jerry's mainstream appeal while Curb is more extreme and offbeat. If you watch the special features on the Seinfeld DVDs the pilot was originally going to b a special where they would follow Jerry around through his meaningless life and along the way he would perform stand up. Essentially what the CYE special became. LD is a genius and has created two of the funniest shows ever.
I can't possibly imagine that fans of LD would not like this Elvis video starring Jerry Rio. Jerry is not Larry David and the only reason I posted this is Jerry (RIO) is sarcastic, cynical, and asks some very funny questions. He also deals in reality like LD. Hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think.
I'm so glad he drop Seinfeld so we could just get him and his beautiful show Curb. I like that he did atleast do his version of a "real" Seinfeld finale.
@TadRapidly the last few seasons did not suck in any way. you obviously aren't a huge seinfeld fan and that's fine but don't bring that crap here the last two seasons are crazy funny
@SamusAbe sorry but my disappointment about the last seasons is BECAUSE I was a huge fan. many would agree with me. Larry David made the difference. IMO.
Ya but you have admit it was the cast that made the show work. a writer is only as good as the people who act it out. kinda like a good joke.. the punch line is the key
I was sorry to see Larry go, but as others have said here, very glad that "Curb" exists. I have just recently found the full series sets on iTunes and have about laughed myself into a fit! Larry IS a genius, especially when you realize so much of Curb is improv.
Larry David is vacationing in Connecticut and I want to ruin it for him because he refused to give me a call back on an audition I did for him. Call him and help me out, his number is 203 814 4351.
Seinfeld became too wacky and too much like a regular sitcom after David left. It was still good (until that awful final episode), but no longer great.
No knock against Jerry but Larry added the edge that brought me into Seinfeld. Jerry was actually too safe a comic for me. I think Jerry brought in a certain type of humor for that era of comedy. It was smart. But I think Larry brought a classic Woody Allen type of neurotic comedy that we hadn't seen since Woody Allen and haven't seen untill Curb. Thank god for Curb
LD = legend! His misery makes it so much easier to relate to him. He is genuinely miserable, despite creating the greatest sitcom of all time he still gets depressed, lonely, bitter constantly. I respect that so much more than people who become robots with success.
Show sucked in season 8 after he left.
