Wow, nice work! You have had to do a lot of work on your fingerstyle to get this far. And as with many things, the better you get, the more you tend to know how much more there is still to learn. (At least that has been case with me anyhow. :)
Thank you very much! I agree, there is still so much for me to learn. I don't have a teacher, so I just find tabs and try to learn on my own, haha.
And I just record straight from my camera. No mic or amp involved. As you saw in my three mile bikeride video, the audio was a little better than it was here because I made the soundboard face the camera. In this video it didn't pick up the bass well.
I'm actually interested in re-recording this song; I've improved a little since then.
Really good cover! Good job. I wish I still could play the song like this. Its a hassle switching through all the tunings so I don't get a chance to practice all the songs all the time!
haha, I know... I used to feel that way about changing tunings too. Now I just suck it up and do it. I tend to break strings from all the tuning changes, but now that I moved up a gauge hopefully it'll happen less.
I thought your cover of Nakagawa-san was good too. ;) I wouldn't be playing it if it weren't for your tab. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Haha, I didn't even notice the mirror there until after I put the video up. My head bobbing up and down is distracting as hell. I'll have to make sure to move that thing if I ever choose to record from this angle again :) Thanks for watching, dude.
Haha, yeah, I play a little of everything lately. Not necessarily very well, but I try. Thanks for watching, man.
And the percussive song you're thinking of is probably Drifting by Andy McKee. I was actually thinking of making a cover of that too, since I think I can play it well enough to do a decent cover now.
You're right - sometimes I accidentally mute strings. I can recognize it when it happens, but I can't always prevent it, haha. I need to work on getting my fingers exactly where they need to be so they're not cutting another string's sound off.
Thanks a lot for the nice comment, man. It's really flattering coming from someone with your talent.
Could you make a tutorial? I really want to play this song and I really like how you play it!

I've been getting back into Mckee's stuff, so I decided to revisit this video.

BTW, what is your set-up? I mean, do you record via your webcam? Mic? Any amp involved there?

taht mirror triped me out, but good cover! try to hold your hand alittle closer to the sound hole, you get more volume taht way (;

Thanks for the advice! Sorry about the mirror, I can't stand that I didn't even realize it in the camera, haha. I appreciate the comment.

what tuning is used for this song?
evrolicious 3 years ago
You can actually find the tunings to all of Andy's songs on his forum.
Rael0505 3 years ago
I just removed my earlier comment due to a mistake. This is the correct tuning from low to high:
E, B, D#, F#, B, D#

Thanks, I'll make sure to go to you if I have any questions :) I'm still pretty new to fingerstyle.
Rael0505 3 years ago
Really impressive - like you said, just a bit rough, but it's sexy stuff. Beautiful. ;-;
Andy McKee can crush bones with his fingers anyway so you can get started on that. Your arms are so slim <3

Nice work : ) I have wanted to do a bass cover with this style of playing though it's complicated..
Kirameo1 3 years ago
Have you seen Victor Wooten's cover of Norwegian Wood? You should check it out if you haven't ;)
Rael0505 3 years ago
Great !!!
You re now in fingerstyle, and THATs great :d
Nice cover, really
but you still need to work on fluidity, making each note ring one after another without stopping the sound (dunno i that really clear )
The last seconds of the song were perfect
But seriously, this is great work
More fingerstyle videos !! :D
Good luck
