Why does Anakin get to be a young ghost and obi wan an old ghost! This makes no sense! Luke never saw the "young Anakin" before! Luke only saw them the way HE remembered them."
They shouldn't have just replaced shaw, they should have replaced all 3 with Hayden, New Yoda and Ewan as Obi wan ( returned to youth). It's disrespectful replacing only 1.
I'm kinda split on the whole Shaw/Christensen debate, but I like this music better, hands down. Seems to give more of a feel of a big ending to an epic saga.

This song is better than Yub Nub EXCEPT that Yub Nub has such a great climax that transitions into the SW theme music and it is sounds so awesome and epic. This new version just sort of abruptly ends into the theme music. That alone makes me hate it. YUB NUB 4 LIFE
the reason sebastain was replaced by hayden is because when lucas reliazed that he might show the original anakin ghost, after hayden was casted, he was worried that anakin might show injury as a ghost.
None of the other jedi died and turned into the 20 year old version of themselves. You know what the worst part of it is tho? Hayden being a semi idiot.... Hes still got the smirk on his face from episode 3 like hes turning to the dark side. Or at least he isnt giving that warming jedi smile that the old actor did. Next time theyll add in his moms ghost so they can say they changed it and sell even more copies.

Why did they have to mess with this? I was watching this in the theater thinking that it would be David Prowse there, but when I saw Hayden Christensen, I nearly fell out of my seat. They took something away from the movie when they did that was what I was thinking.

Even if Episode 1, 2 and 3 are not THAT good; altogether, this is probably the greatest story ever told. When the first movies came out I couldn't stop thinking about Vader's past and then they gave us the whole story of the young slave who became the most powerful Jedi ever. Now I watch the entire 6 movies in a row and this scene gains much more meaning. I mean, fuck it, to the end of his life you can almost see that little boy who just wanted the power to rescue his mother.

Another problem, if I wanted to show a new comer to Star Wars from the original to the prequal the new comers going to be totally confused that Christensen is there and not the other actor who portrayed Darth Vader/Anakin so that means I have to explain shit about the prequals before I even get to watching them, not even the Blu Ray version made this scene have any more sence, George didnt even do anything with the Blu Rays apart from add more stupid stuff and put the movies in higher res.

I think this was a badass cause yeah Anakin redeemed himself as older anakin but the whole time before that older skared anakin was evil.The whole time though when he was younger except for the tuskan raider incident,and excucuting duku he was good during the clone wars and everything.So I think its fitting,the only thing I think they messed up and this wouldnt have happened if George filmed them in order,was that they should have Qui-Gon in this scene cause if it wasnt for him

LOL...remember in 2006 I decided to watch the saga in the order they came out...IV V VI then I II III...the episode VI ending´s version i saw was the one with Hayden on it, but I had not seen the Episode II and III yet so I didn´t know about Hayden´s appearance on the saga. Then I saw Episodes II and III but i didn´t linked Hayden with that final scene I had seen on Episode VI. It was not until I saw the episode VI again (now, after having seen the episode II and III) that I said:
"hey, how is it possible that the character who plays Anakim has appeared in this film?? if it was made in the 80's??? (of course I knew nothing about the alternate ending)......LOL it was kinda weird and creepy at the same time!!!!
OK... here's the rub: Anakin was seduced by the dark side as a young man. Therefore, it's only fitting that he becomes a force ghost as the young man that he was prior to his seduction. This is something George Lucas wanted to do but had to wait until he had his young Anakin in Hayden Christensen.
I know this is the new ending but it still pisses me off .... I liked it better when they had David Prowse show up... he was a much better actor for one and to top it off he wasn't even an actor to begin with! He didn't say anything in the first 3 movies and he wore a mask the whole time and he was still a better actor then Hayden Christiansen. Though to be honest I loved the star wars films so oh well ...

Personally I don't like Yub Nub nor Victory Celebration. Both Music pieces sounded awful, with the Special Edition version sounding slightly worse. It sounds nothing like Star Wars music, Happy Crappy New Age Crap.
@gneila The change was necessary. That was Anakin as a Jedi. Luke never saw Sebastien Shaw as a Jedi - only as Darth Vader... Besides, the only reason why Hayden isn't in the original - is because he probably wasn't born yet... Hayden is the last time we see Anakin as himself in Episode 3.

I personally didn't like this particular alteration, because I didn't like Hayden Christensen's performance in the prequel trilogy. Again, that's just my opinion, of course. De gustibus.
Stop hating on the edits - I've stood in line in 1977 to watch the first and I couldn't watch them in that format again today - the memory always makes things better than they were, until you see them in their current form. God please don't release an unedited version as the standard.

just compare both scenes, the scene with sebastian shaw(old anakin) fits perfectly, but young anakin looks like........... YOU for example, just a random guy with a funny costume and with a "what the fuck am i doing here" look on his face at 0:31, he looks down and he is almost laughing, well, like the bad actor he is.
@TheCrimsonStriker Yub Nub is overrated. It's cartoony and fans' love of it is in direct contrast to their dislike of the Ewoks. They say they hate the little furry creatures, but then when Lucas changes the ending song, they get up in arms over something they're supposed to hate. The SE song is also done by John Williams, and in my opinion, it makes for a more emotional ending, less cheesy.
Ok, I understand why they put Christiansen in, to connect it to the Prequel Trtilogy and blah blah blah... and I don't have a problem with that,
BUT, when Luke unmasked Vader, you gotta believe Anakin was "revived" for a little bit before he died, so it would make sense to show him as Shaw since he's like, 70-80 now, right?

Personally, I liked some of the stuff he added to the Special Edition. The DVD edition, however, was altered to bring it "in synch" with the Prequel Trilogy. That wouldn't have been necessary if Lucas'd just respected the original trilogy's story when he was making the prequel trilogy.

From the second I saw this and every moment after, I had a very violent response. I have the sudden urge to beat the shit out of George P-ucas for fucking up a perfectly good ending, and frankly, fucking up a pefectly good day.
i think it made perfect sense to have Hayden Christensen as Anakin at the end of Episode VI, as it dovetails perfectly with the new trilogy. Some think that the new trilogy is awful, that the acting of Ms. Portman and Mr. Christensen is awful, blah, blah, blah...but i think the new trilogy sets up everything perfectly and connects to the original trilogy like a well-constructed Lego set.
Ok, Lucas want to put the young Anakin on this.. I found it useless, but after all it gives more coherence to the trilogies.. but for what reason did he have to change also the music?!

LOL...remember in 2006 I decided to watch the saga in the order they came out...IV V VI then I II III...the episode VI ending´s version i saw was the one with Hayden on it, but I had not seen the Episode II and III yet so I didn´t know about Hayden´s appearance on the saga. Then I saw Episodes II and III but i didn´t linked Hayden with that final scene I had seen on Episode VI. It was not until I saw the episode VI again (now, after having seen the episode II and III) that I said:

OK... here's the rub: Anakin was seduced by the dark side as a young man. Therefore, it's only fitting that he becomes a force ghost as the young man that he was prior to his seduction. This is something George Lucas wanted to do but had to wait until he had his young Anakin in Hayden Christensen.

I know this is the new ending but it still pisses me off .... I liked it better when they had David Prowse show up... he was a much better actor for one and to top it off he wasn't even an actor to begin with! He didn't say anything in the first 3 movies and he wore a mask the whole time and he was still a better actor then Hayden Christiansen. Though to be honest I loved the star wars films so oh well ...

It is FUCKING bullshit that Annakin is there and the idea that its somehow a trick to come back as a ghost cause if you remember nowhere in the prequels did Anakin learn to come back as ghost, only obi wan, gin and yoda. If it wasn't explained it was just as if Luke could see his close friends and loved ones through a bond of the force or something like that. Now its just totally fucked over and RUINED! FUCK YOU GEORGE LUCAS!!!

Personally I don't like Yub Nub nor Victory Celebration. Both Music pieces sounded awful, with the Special Edition version sounding slightly worse. It sounds nothing like Star Wars music, Happy Crappy New Age Crap.

@gneila The change was necessary. That was Anakin as a Jedi. Luke never saw Sebastien Shaw as a Jedi - only as Darth Vader... Besides, the only reason why Hayden isn't in the original - is because he probably wasn't born yet... Hayden is the last time we see Anakin as himself in Episode 3.

@gneila well this is the story: well anakin got badly burned and turn into dark side. and got rebuild and yoda and obi-wan wasn't badly burned and turn dark side did they? no thats why obi looks like he was old ben kenobi and yoda looks like he is like if you say mace windus ghost comes well then he is normal as he was on episode 3 and qui-gonn but mace and qui-gonn wasn't any ghost so the real JEDI anakin was when he was normal not badly burned

@TheMellzBellz I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Still, that just means the editor and/or the director screwed up. In all honesty, it's not my intention to rant about the ending. I personally didn't like this particular alteration, because I didn't like Hayden Christensen's performance in the prequel trilogy. Again, that's just my opinion, of course. De gustibus.

Stop hating on the edits - I've stood in line in 1977 to watch the first and I couldn't watch them in that format again today - the memory always makes things better than they were, until you see them in their current form. God please don't release an unedited version as the standard.

just compare both scenes, the scene with sebastian shaw(old anakin) fits perfectly, but young anakin looks like........... YOU for example, just a random guy with a funny costume and with a "what the fuck am i doing here" look on his face at 0:31, he looks down and he is almost laughing, well, like the bad actor he is.

@TheCrimsonStriker Yub Nub is overrated. It's cartoony and fans' love of it is in direct contrast to their dislike of the Ewoks. They say they hate the little furry creatures, but then when Lucas changes the ending song, they get up in arms over something they're supposed to hate. The SE song is also done by John Williams, and in my opinion, it makes for a more emotional ending, less cheesy.

Ok, I understand why they put Christiansen in, to connect it to the Prequel Trtilogy and blah blah blah... and I don't have a problem with that,
BUT, when Luke unmasked Vader, you gotta believe Anakin was "revived" for a little bit before he died, so it would make sense to show him as Shaw since he's like, 70-80 now, right?

@VenomFan1989 Because most people don't like his acting in Episode II and III. Furthermore, he seems to be staring straight at the camera, unlike Ben and Yoda, who are looking in Luke's direction.
Personally, I liked some of the stuff he added to the Special Edition. The DVD edition, however, was altered to bring it "in synch" with the Prequel Trilogy. That wouldn't have been necessary if Lucas'd just respected the original trilogy's story when he was making the prequel trilogy.

i think it made perfect sense to have Hayden Christensen as Anakin at the end of Episode VI, as it dovetails perfectly with the new trilogy. Some think that the new trilogy is awful, that the acting of Ms. Portman and Mr. Christensen is awful, blah, blah, blah...but i think the new trilogy sets up everything perfectly and connects to the original trilogy like a well-constructed Lego set.
