In the guys defense most people new to riding tend to panic when they think something bad is gonna happen. He saw himself headed towards the tree, gripped tight, pulled back on the bars thus twisting the throttle. Same concept happens when new riders enconter there first low lean curve. They get scared to lean the bike over and stand it strait back up and successfully go in a strait line off the road. The safest thing to have on any bike is confidence, not to be confused with cockiness.
