basically, when gary young played drums for them he was always drunk or stoned and would fall out of time so they got bob to keep him in time by also playing some drums. he was also their tour manager and malkmuss' best friend and would do some vocals and bits of percussion. and to me bob is what makes pavement in some ways

I saw Mark Ibold at the Battles show in Central Park last week, went over and shook his hand and my idiot friend asks him about a Pavement reunion, his answer was " Have you seen Steve lately, he doesn't need us, he's kicking ass on his own" I have seen him lately, he did kick ass on his own but it would be great to have them reunite to play Pavement tunes for a whole show.

The tuning is a common Malkmus tuning (circa pavement. It is as follows: DADABE

The bottom E dropped to a 'D' and the G tuned up to an A - Be careful when tuning up the G. Not recommended on an acoustic! He uses this tuning for Summer Babe and Grounded as well as others.

Im sorry but it certainly is not the tuning you mention (which for some reason has 7 strings!). I think the tuning you meant is CGDGBE which is a classic early pavement tuning used on Slanted and Enchanted, especially IN THE MOUTH A DESERT. Gold Soundz however is 150% DADABE, I have seen Malkmus live on many occasions and seen him play this song and it is DEFINITELY the tuning I posted originally. The fact that the songs third chord is a D and Malkmus plays the top string open proves this.

The recorded version is 150% DADABE and this isthe tuning Malkmus uses live as well, ive seen him play it countless times. THe tuning you mention has 7 strings, I think you mean CGDGBE, a classic early pavement tuning, utilised best on In The Mouth A desert.

I can only think of one band in the last 8 years that plays with the same honesty and Integrity as Pavement and that's QOTSA, I like a lot of stuff that's about at the minute but you can't help thinking that it's a bunch of contrived crap... there are very few bands out there that speak from the heart and Pavement was one of them.
