The TSA policy is stupid. All gun locks come with warning labels that say "Do not use on a loaded gun." Does the TSA not know how to read warning labels?
Another problem is a poor choice of gun. Currently pilots can only carry the Smith and Wesson M&P 40, which has no external safety features. If they could carry a gun with a grip safety, like a Springfield XD or 1911, then accidents like this one would not have happend.
Blame the pilot if you want, sure he goofed up...but the TSA made this risky policy, and can change to a different set up that will make such an accident actually impossible. Remember that this risky procedure is being done in the air hundreds of times per day. Sure the chances of a mishap are small, but the laws of probability say that if you roll the dice enough times, you will see all possibilities. MAKE A BETTER HOLSTER TSA
The current set up is plain retarded. ALL manuals say to keep the trigger guard free of foreign objects. There is no reason why they should use this set up. TSA should contract Blackhawk to safely re-engineer their retention holster to have a lock on it. End of story. Such an accident would never happen again. As for it being 100 percent operator error, why then are planes equipped with safety features like stall indicators and overspeed warnings...because engineering safety is BEING RESPONSIBLE
Well I would like to see a better holster, granted, but this system is in use by several agencies in the FED and with very few mishaps. Negligence happens, but these guys are not trained to proficiency in weapon retention skills to survive a take away in the cabin or in the airport. Their mission is very specific and limited for a reason. The manuals are written for liability purposes and I'm sure you understand that until the trigger is pressed, the gun doesn't go off. Right?
Stop posting as me, you're embarrassing me, seriously, I don't want to be known to be the idiot multiple personality low self esteem moron like you, thanks.
The responsibility of the negligent discharge falls at the feet of the person handling the weapon. No excuses, no whining. He knew the rules and the procedure and violated them. End of story. As for the demonstration, the video depicts everything FFDOs are formally trained NOT to do.
If the pilots are TRAINED with the firearm, they should be allowed to carry the firearm UNLOCKED at all times including when they get up to use the restroom. Think about it, isn't it possible that a terrorist might wait for the pilot to open the door before charging? With the TSA's policy, this would be the perfect time because now the terrorist knows the firearm is locked away and not easily accessible by the pilot, and the door is open. Perfect for the terrorist...

Watch the video response before you start babbling on. Let me ask you since you're such a firearms safety expert. Do you think it is a good idea to put a padlock through the trigger guard of a loaded weapon? In other words, foreign objects in trigger guard of loaded weapon = good or bad?
Firearms safety includes keeping yourself to good habits, and over complicating the procedure will be detrimental to this concept. The SAFEST thing for them to do is to simply ALWAYS have their loaded weapons in the holster on their side at all times with the trigger guard completely covered by the holster. None of this continuously taking it off, locking it, then unlocking it and putting it back on. The more you "mess" with it the more you risk this happening. Oh crap, look, it's happened...
The video respose is useless. It describes exactly what FFDOs are trained not to do. You have no idea why the gun must be secured in the cockpit do you? I would be willing to bet that I would disarm you, slagman5, in no time and use your gun against you with hardly any resistance. I'll bet your will to fight begins and ends with a gun. Once its gone, you'll fold like a lawn chair. He He. You dont know what you are talking about with this, trust me. Dont play if you dont know the rules.
Is that you in the videos on your profile? Nice shirt. I comfirmed my feelings I stated in my previous reply to you. You think the gun makes the man. I beg to differ. But I have the experience, training and background to know better. What Sheriffs Department do you work in the jail for? ;-) You have a long way to go killer. Keep on training, one day it will all click for you and you'll grow up.
LMAO, you sure do talk tough on the internet big man, lol. I'm sure it works on some people, I'll let you know if I can find anyone that would be intimidated by you... he he :-D
Oh and I'm sure you expect me to dress up for videos I shoot on my days off from work. Oh my, I'm wearing an undershirt in those videos, oh no, lol, you obviously missed the videos where I'm in my underpants... I guess I'm not vain like some people who think really highly of themselves, not pointing any elbows or anything... he he he lol
Whatever. Back to the real topic, not th kid game you like to engage in. The FFDO program is a great security boost and I would be happy to see every pilot armed. Off the flight deck and on. That is just not possible for a plethora of reasons. The lock and holster they have no is the best they can do..for now. The operator is the only one responsible for an ND. In any situation.
Yah, he should have been more careful. But TSA is still pretty stupid for requiring them to lock up their weapon when they're about to open the cockpit door when an attack will most likely happen, and also to require that they put a foreign object into the trigger guard of a loaded weapon. Sure retention is great, but one of the very first fundamental rules of weapon safety is to NEVER introduce any object into the trigger guard of a weapon unless you're thinking about firing it.
Holsters are specifically designed to cover the trigger guard for a very specific reason. Doing that, then designing a way to introduce a foreign object into it is counterintuitive.
And I don't know why you replied to my comment talking about kid games, internet tough guy over there is the one that decided to make personal insults instead of staying on topic, lol. I love internet tough guys, they crack me up.
The pilot was definitely at fault, because I know that if I were to be required to do something as dangerous as putting a foreign object into the trigger guard of a loaded weapon, I would have been doubly careful about making sure the weapon was in the holster correctly. But obviously this oversight wouldn't even have happened if the TSA didn't require you to do such a dangerous thing in the first place. Which is my point, they are just asking for more people to make the same mistake.
What is this, some multiple personality disorder? LOL, I can't believe you are commenting to yourself and giving yourself ratings using a different account name, that is just too funny! Someone has some self esteem issues... "I have a best friend, it's me!" LMAO!
Lol, frankly nobody really cares about your assessment of their knowledge of the topic. I know in your little world you think your opinion actually matters, and I'm sure to your mother it does. LOL, anyway, the pilot should have been more careful, obviously, but it's also stupid to lock up your weapon when an attack is most likely to happen (cockpit door open) and VERY dangerous to introduce any object into the trigger guard of a loaded weapon. Combination of dumb things came together here.
Look dipshit, I made even another account to make comments. Sorry, I dont live through youtube like you do, I just create an account if I need to comment on something. Like this issue. When idiots like you, who use silly abbreviations like a teenager texting on a cell phone, act as if they know the slightest thing about firearms (You dont) I have to comment. The only one responsible for the ND is the weapon handler.
Oh, by the way, I watched a couple of your videos and got to tell ya. You need some better instruction. Regurgitation of basic BS does not make you an authority. You have whats called a "rote" understanding of FA skills. You also claim I have a "self esteem" issue, but you video your soft flabby body and put it on the net? Plus you show the world what a goof you are by having no public speaking skills whatsoever. Delete all your crap from the net, grow up and get a real job in LE if you can.
OH WOW, you even copy and paste messages from one video to another, damn, you REALLY care a lot about how others view the "debate" is going don't you? If this comment was meant only for me, one time would have been enough, but you had to make sure others see it too. WOW and you claim to not have self esteem issues. Honestly, I'm not laughing anymore, this is really sad. No wait, it's still funny though...

Now let's talk about how many FFDO's firearms have been; LOST, STOLEN AND LEFT BEHIND IN THE COCKPIT OR LAVATORY.
