@johnnyhanx That is well said. College players are less talented and the college game is all about the coaches and their systems, same in college football. The players are almost interchangeable. The NBA is all about matchups. That is the biggest contribution of coaches in the NBA is knowing how to get the ball in the hands of their best players with the best matchup and dealing with the egos.
@kimv020887 I have a soft spot for the 80's. Soo many of my heroes came out of there. 90's was great too. If I was old enough to see 60's and 70's I'd say them too. Especially the 70's and pistol pete...I'd love to have seen him in action.
@megatron0357 go to PhillyDippy5's channel. search "PhillyDippy5" here on YoUTube, go to that channel and he has classic NBA clips from the Chamberlain/Russell/Reed era.
For all of Kobe's great shots, and he is great no doubt, this will always be my favorite shot by my favorite player all time. Magic and the Lakers beating the Celtics in the finals on Parquet floor. Two games later we were on our way to back to back.
Bro, i'm a Lakers fan and Kobe can hit a shot in Boston to win us the championship and that shot wont even come close to what Magic did on this night!!!
But Kobe without Gasol, took his team to the playoffs. Though they were not championship material they went. In a western conference that was way more dominant that the Eastern Conference, and Jordan or any GREAT player for that matter has never had a team with the worst record in the league. The Cavs without Lebron never were the worst team in the league, neither were the Magic.
i was only 7 yrs of age when this epic moment happen...my relatives were all down in the den watching the game on the projector big screen tv.....really did'nt make sense of it at the time but from that point forward i was a laker fan...that silence that follows that shot is priceless....im sure that all of LA was partying late that night

OK. Lets be realistic for a second. Spectacular play aside, That hook shot was a fucking retarded move on his part, no one today would try such an impossible shot in the last seconds of a game. He is lucky it went in.
Hey(I feel like saying u fuking idiot, but I don't want to be rude) this is the 80's. Magic was the master of this shot, Kareem was the master of the skyhook, if Kareem played today I'm guessing you would call him an idiot every time he took a shot.
you clearly are an idiot.. the hook shot was developed because it is near UNBLOCK ABLE.. you box out with your body as you shoot. more players should practice it today, gasol has a decent hook shot going for him, but no one has the sky hook.
He practiced the baby hook, as the shot is known, all season - it was a shot he intentionally developed when his coach recommended he learn it, as it was a high percentage shot - he only had Kareen to teach it to him, who scored 39,000 points using it - really retarded.
Well, yeah, I know. What I meant was, those who call games for CBS, NBC, or stuff like that aren't expected to show as much emotion as those who are local radio/TV broadcasters. I have heard Chick Hearn's call of this play and can tell you that his emotion is, well, different, his being the Lakers' radio man and all. Hence Stockton, who was supposed to show no bias toward either team, has a more businesslike approach to this play.
I'm completely serious when I say: this is the WORST quality I've ever seen.
