I have two ferrets and my friend has two, we have tried to train them but, they are untrainable. Ive come to the conclusion they are not intelligent enough. Maybe there are a few rare exceptions, but you can expect them to poop all over your
Arent you cool you can make fun of little girls over the internet grow up thats something she cant control she is to young to get braces and her teeth arent even that bad.
@jarod99211 I think a collar is fine. My ferret has had his on for almost 3 years now (only taken off for baths) and he is just fine. They look cute in collars and my deaf ferret needs one with a bell so I don't lose him! Plus that way if they ever get lost, I know they are wearing some sort of identification and if anyone found them they know it is a pet not just a wild animal. It is a possibility they can get hurt, but so can dogs or cats who wear collars!
is it true that ferrets make good pets are you supposed to set aside 500 dollars for suregery, apparently they are really health prone, I live in an apt so I am thinking of getting one, I can't have a dog or a cat, but am allowed soemthing small, give me some info,I would surely appreciate it
That honestly depends on where you're living. In canada at least to be a licensed breeder they need to already be fixed, de-scented and have all of their first shots. The ferrets go around 250 but you should set aside a bit of money for the shots it requires after in about a week or two but this won't be 500 dollars.
I think there are more health problems in the US and Canada than here in the UK... here they're not neutered or spayed until sexual maturity but a lot of breeders in the States sell neutered kits which increases the chance of cancer, adrenal disease etc...

shit i've been wanting one so bad, but now i'm kinda thinking twice. After my cat ate my hamster Nachos and i only noticed it a week after it happened, i guess im not the best owner ever.
Cute girl but unfortunately you really didn't cover what it takes to care for a ferret. Ferrets need SEVERAL hours out of their cage playtime every day. Ferrets are prone to LOTS of diseases - cardiomyopathy, adrenal disease, insulinoma, lymphoma - and with ferret vets few and far in between can be very expensive to care for. Ferrets are not a good pet for small children and ferret shelters constantly have ferrets dumped there from families where the child wanted the ferret but quickly
tire of how much work they are to care for. Often ferrets are dumped at shelters nearly starved to death or in the advanced stage of a disease because the child has ignored it for a period of time and the parents never checked it. Please do NOT get your child a ferret unless YOU intend to be the primary care giver for it.
(Serve on the board of a ferret shelter, run an online ferret forum and my website's been featured in and I've been interviewed by Ferrets Magazine a few times)
true multiple hours is neccessary even though they sleep 18 hours, but I can't supervise them that long with school and work, i'd love to have them out all the time but they get into everything, they learn how to open or climb everything, I fear they will get into trouble despite ferret proofing, any advice? I have a huge cage for them they play in when not out. And bathing is debatable, most soaps including ferret soaps have an ingredient in them that strips the oils,I found one made without it
Saw your website and I grinned when I saw the book on the page "ferrets for Dummies" Awesome book, Ive done alot of reading on ferrets and found that on the best. Just wish their were more ideas for toys! Anyways ",do not bathe him more than once a month.I suggest bathing only a few times a year." Kim Schilling. The stuff I use doesn't clean great but leaves the oils in their fur and I've had no problems with smell or skin irritation with it. They love getting dry dirty agian though when done!
My parents got me ferrets, actually four. I take care of them every day and play with them for about 2 hours a day. I love them and would never dump them at a shelter, I think I am an exception.
Depends on what you define as hard, to keep the smell down gotta do the litter box twice a day, exercise them for an hour( SUPERVISED!) Wash their laundry(Bedding) 1 week as well as whole cage, and I'd suggest 1 bath per month with appropiate soap. They cost alot though, their food and new toys cause they get bored quick, they are considered an exotic pet so vet cost is more. They need shots like a cat or dog does. They get into EVERYTHING so you really gotta watch them, they are Alot of fun!
Ferrets need at LEAST three to four hours out of their cage EVERY SINGLE DAY - not one hour.
Ferrets should only be bathed once or twice a YEAR not once a month. Bathing them excessively will make them produce more oils and smell MORE and also dries out their skin.
I want 2 really badly! I've read all the books and all the websites! And my mom thinks we have too many pets already! Compared to yours we dont have any! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats currently. Any tips?
i really want two ferrets. But i have two dogs, two hamsters, twenty one mice because they all bred :L and three rabbits which we are breeding the two females with the male :P
But thats at home with my dad. I would be allowed one with my dad but he says it would kill the bunnies, but at my mums she ses they would stink! :@ so i cant win either way, can anyone with adults lol.
