The kids did their best, but they shouldn't have changed the words. The song is about homosexuality and by changing the words they have changed the meaning of it. I realise its probably because they don't want children singing about homosexuality, but in that case put on a different play. There are millions that they could choose from that are nicely uncontroversial for kids to perform and they would have just as much fun doing.
spamalot has nothing to do with religion or sexuality, really??. Spamalot pokes fun at religion and sexuality, not to the extent of life of brian, but saying that it has nothing to do with Spamalot, bit far.
religion and faith are completely seperate and should never be used together, neither to represent or support one another. religion are myths to explain occurances and to keep a thumb pressed firmly down on the little guy, as soon as religious "leaders" or creators such as god and allah were personafied, the faith died. religion WAS built upon faith, and should be interpretated to "have faith" not in religion, in life. that is where religion fails and commong sense wins.
ive read this through a few times and i can safely say, using it as adequate information that your a bit of a muppet, you feel you have some right to "expose" children and peers to other beliefs?? then you say thats not biased?? you really are as thick as pig-shit to be blind to the fact that preaching your own beliefs arent biased, and how - is preaching your own belifes any different to this bullshit so many americans chow down on callled religion? lol
its about a knight of the round table, representing strong religious references. becoming gay....
Lance - a - Lot
ffs, any parent with any ears or limited grasp of linguistics must be able to discern this is....oh wait, its america. never mind, the education is fucked - almost as bad as the coreography. no way as bad as your comment tho. megatard.
Sorry, but this butchers the original song. Why did they alter the lyrics? The majority of those kids don't even know what they're singing about anyway. Also, Monty Python is not intended for children in the first place.
they changed the lyrics because theyre little kids and it would cause an uproar if they sang about him being gay. And yes, this play is possibly one of the worst plays for little kids to put on
OMG... if yer gonna CHANGE the songs, then why do they even bother doing th play?! Gawd, kid's that age are to young to fully appreciate the unique humor of monty python anyway... I mean half the jokes are just random jibberish... kids would just always say things like "What's so funny? I dun get it." Geez.... monty python stuff seems better for teenagers and adults, not just the innuendos, but just the brand of humor in general seems more for teenagers and adults...
Wow, these kids look about ten. Seriously, when my school preformed this musical, the school wasn't gonna let eight and ninth graders watch this... Then the drama teacher flipped out. But yea this is RIDICULASLY INNAPROPRIATE.
I agree with you 100%, but Monty Python's a troupe, not a "he". Doesn't mean they can't cringe, though. There shouldn't even be anything wrong with the gay part in the first place. If nothing else, just tell the kids it means happy if you're so concerned.
1.) WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS? I asked my HIGH SCHOOL to preform Spamalot in our production, and they said it was too controverstial. And how old are these kids?
2.) PLEASE, PLEASE don't change the words! What's wrong with Lancelot being gay? Okay, if you're going to turn it around to hide it, just ignore it. That thing about girls screaming was like a kick in the producer's faces. I cry for them. I'm sorry. This isn't exactly your fault, but it hurts; this sort of censoring keeps us undiverse.
And even if they didn't change the lyrics, why is it "inappropriate" for kids to sing a song about a gay character? I just don't get it. However, if they didn't change the words the song would have made no sense out of context. And what is with this obsession with keeping kids from things anyway? I'm not talking about drugs or murder which are moral judgements, but sexuality? It's like saying "I'm not going to teach kids about blonde people until they're 18!" How ridiculous.
It was weird. 1) they left out the gay part (Which is understandable) 2) there wasn't anyone actually playing Lancelot. Everyone said all the lines. Not bad for such a young age group though, not bad at all
The words of the song changed- but the singer who starts this off is incredible, and the dancing's very well choreographed. (As someone who's worked on theatrical productions with that age group- I'm very impressed.)
if these kids ever hear the real cd they are going to be soooo confused lol.

this is really not the way this song should be performed :-(
didn´t like it although the kids sure had done their best - but this musical isn´t meant to be performed by a school class (...in my opinion)

dude, the kids didnt coreograph it themselves,

definatly not the source material that is appropriate for little kids, even if you change the words.
Coryashire 3 years ago
They changed the words....a lot...probably because it is a bunch of little kids preforming it though.

The most entertaining part of this to me is that they probably dont realize what this song is supposed to be about.

Aww, that was cute. Made me a little sad that they didn't keep the Lancelot being gay part it, but still very adorable.
