  • I got one of these v8 perkins 540 engines in my Leyland Mastiff and it soung great without the muffler.

  • I WANT THAT IN A CHEVY LUV

  • Total monster of an engine!!

  • Smart Guy

  • BRUTAL FORCE !

  • Так это же МАЗовский двиган ямз-238

  • no fuel efficiency, but cool

    god i love engines

  • eat that environment

  • @Xenos105 LOL

  • was it these engines that they used as a base for the truck racing some time ago in the uk??

  • Норм звучок!

  • diesel power <3

  • wow listen to 3hp

  • @yzfr6003 bet you own a honda

  • Now sold in California.

  • Run it on Wood gas and you will make my day!

  • al gore shit his pants when he saw this

  • nice V8

  • we in germany had engines with 4 cylinders 2.0 liters and 320 HP and this engine V8 only 190HP but a lot of liters and our engines are cheaper and had 8000rpm max standart. ;-) (its a cool sound be carful it want to kill us all)

  • @werte909 v8 is powerfull, it's not a problem to increase a Hp.

  • @werte909 And how much torque? There's no replacement for displacement. ;)

  • @sntslilhlpr6601 not so much because we put only an other gear on it.

  • @werte909 I don't know what you mean by that. Keep in mind it's not all about peak hp and torque numbers too. The area under the curve is a big factor. Your little turbo 4 banger doesn't make shit for torque under 2k rpm. I guarantee it. That's why every 4 banger lover raves about his 9000rpm redline. I'm sure you are familiar with f1, though, and the kind of rpms they turn with their V8s. Again, there's no replacement for displacement.

  • @werte909 German engines arent really that reliable though, bet there are none left in working order from that era! Also, Hp isn't the full picture, torque is MUCH more important in a Diesel, something this engine has tons of!!!

  • @discocreator76 ok but did you ever had thinking about how much fuel this engine needs

  • @discocreator76

    Audi

    BMW

    Mercedes-Benz

i think you got that a little backwards buddy

  • I have a 4 cyl INDENOR, it's the same sequence: ignition-sound-smoke!

  • mmm sounds sexy man real nice old vehicle

  • sounds healthy

  • now THAT is the sound of power ;)

  • @Dimitry999 Its got 190hp but alot low-rpm torque

  • What? The voices are LOUDER!!!

  • Sweeeeeeeet!!!...

  • Put that in the tractor, dual streight pipes ;)

  • That thing is beast. I've watched this video quite a few times now lol.

  • this thing is fucking violent! i love it!

  • SWEET!!!!!!

  • Silencers should be banned-NOW!

  • @Squarerig HELL YES

  • Wow that must have been loud, no exhaust system lol... If you have been to dragracing you know what i mean!

  • La pucha! ahi si que hay potencia!

  • Hi,

sounds good we had a 540 in our combine love that sound what type is it ? a 510 or a 540

    Thanks

  • Put some wheels on that engine and we'll see where it goes, haha

  • nice sound 5/5

  • Now I can image now noisy a Seddon Pennine 4 is... >o<

  • c pas un perkins t'on moteur gazier

  • lot of white smoke....... how's it compression?

  • 5.7 DIESEL ?

  • @mccrackenphillip so you really think that a 5.7L diesel would be that big? or 180 hp?..... it there was a 5.7L that will hold 180 hp and hold together it would be a miracle

  • @TBWdracula2003 LF9D 5.7L DIESEL 125 HP 225 TQ

    LF9DX 105 HP 205 TQ.

  • @mccrackenphillip ... so? what the fuck does all that mean? its just saying that a 5.7L diesel is junk... i knew this from the get go.

  • @TBWdracula2003 he was naming engines you idiot. the mechanics and owners made it junk by using shortcuts that work on gasoline engines

  • @Bloodcurling oh im the idiot and you're the one who thinks that the 5.7L diesel was a good engine? HAH

  • @TBWdracula2003

There was nothing wrong with the 5.7 diesel except that it lacked proper fuel filtration. The engine was built from the ground-up to be a diesel- the mains are substantially larger than those in a gas 5.7 block. There is someone who lives close to me who has a diesel Oldsmobile with a 5.7 in it with close to 400,000 miles on it.

  • @douro20 im gonna let you in on a little secret. they offered the 5.7 in late 70's and early 80's half ton 2wd pickups... and if you towed ANYTHING with the pickup it voided the warranty on the engine... one good thing about the 5.7 is that if you turn it back into a gasser, because it was a redesigned 350, not a ground up remake. it makes one hell of a high compression race engine. 140 octane gas with a little diesel mixed in they run like a scalded cat.

  • that thing souds great! do you know how big the bore is?

  • crazy xD

  • Love the fuel tank! :D

  • FROTHHHH

  • although I am a gasoline propeled engine this DIESEL SOUND MAGNIFICIENT! I SALUTE YOU FOR THE VIDEO!

  • @CS05HHO check out the scania engine video if u want a nice v8 diesel engine

  • MONSTRO...MAKINA !!!

  • I used to drive a ford D10 tipper lorry with same engine 1970

  • This is the future of the Diesel Engine : Clean, Economic and Noiseless

  • @jeremydu13

sounds like a sad future for diesels. clean and noiseless? might as well call it a gasser

  • @EasternAggie It was a joke :-P

  • @jeremydu13

ok i gotcha dude. theres so many eco freaks on here i can never tell...

  • That sounds awsome! RAT TAT TAT GROWWWLLLL!

  • how many litre?

  • DIESEL POWER !

  • Love to hear that pulling in a tractor.

  • no radiator?

  • like this v8 sound

    perkins v8 ♥

  • A diesel monster ;) cool!

  • LOVE the idle sound... LOVE it. That brap..bubu..brap brap..bubu..brap brap..bubu..brap

  • sound better then a gas v8

  • cant beat a V8 diesel !

  • Wish my van sounded that good..!! :-)

  • Nice sound !!

  • i wuld LOVE having it in my ford fiesta :D

  • nice sounds great

  • fuck the environment lol. the environment is a small price to pay to have engines as beautiful as this lol :P

  • @TheKneekap Not when you can't breath.

  • gr8 motor! perkins rules...see you my perkins!

    cheers

  • I love motors :)

  • I think it needs a tune up

  • Sounds fucking awesome. How many hp and nm?

  • nice sound! wow!

  • Diesel Rulezzz!

  • its a perkins 540 v8 540 stands for 540 cu ins the engine size my uncle had one in his cement mixer when we were kids a leyland super mastiff

  • I LOVE THAT IDLE SOUND AT 0:22

  • Phwoar

  • Smoke much?

  • Do you guys know how much horsepower it's producing?

  • @Xenos105 it is 180hp.

  • @ESY835 and what's the capaticy?

  • @ESY835 you could easily hit the 250 hp with a fine tune and a turbo :) , anyway nice vid

  • @ESY835 Holy crap the engine is that massive and its only got 180bhp!? It must have enough torque to tow the moon I suppose?

  • @CJRamze diesels arent really designed for horsepower, theyre designed for torque. that engine probably has enough torque, as you said, to rip the moon out of the sky

  • @ESY835 not much for a v8? german v8's get arround 500HP

  • @1DEVjj Tractors dont need hp the need tq which im sure this makes a lot of.

  • Comment removed

  • @ESY835 You'd figure it would output so much more being how big she is, heh.

  • @ESY835 sure its not more than 180bhp? thats 1 beast of a engine, it sure has some power

  • @david197407 you should know that diesels are not that strong. nearly every diesel car has turbo. This one doesnt :)

  • @Adasiek9595

So put one on it. Ha

  • @SammyInnit Why are you telling that to me? thats not my engine.

  • @Adasiek9595

    Saying that to me*

  • @SammyInnit whatever. English is not my first language

  • @david197407 its only got 180hp, but its probably got enough tq to pull a house down

  • @Xenos105 but coz its diesel it prob has nearly 500 foot punds of torque

  • @Xenos105 It's actually not producing any power, it's not hooked up to anything.

  • @wiredforstereo actually yes its making enough power to turn not only the valve train, the injection pump aswell, water pump and so on.....30-40hp at least just idling..

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs According to the laws of physics, if I grabbed it and it succeeded in moving me, it would be producing power. Like my professor Dr. Jong said back in the day, if you push on a wall and the wall does not move, no work is done.

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs Nope, it's burning fuel and making heat. No work is produced. Now if it were hooked to a generator or a vehicle, it could be making electrical or mechanical power. But it's not. No work is done. Work done within the system serves only to maintain the state of the system in this case. Overall, it's a big heater. It's just burning fuel and producing nothing but heat.

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs Nope, I'm being deliberately precise. You are mistaken about the power. There is no huge surplus of HP being produced because there is no HP being consumed. Do you remember the whole "action and reaction" stuff from Physics class? It can't be producing power because there is nothing that is consuming that power because nothing is hooked up to the engine. It's sitting there in the context of the system, doing nothing but making heat.

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs But that's where you're critically mistaken. It is not PRODUCING any excess power because none is being used. However it is capable of producing such power. Semantics are important in an uneducated populace.

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs But I'm not wrong. In the very precision of science, I'm exactly right.

  • Comment removed

  • @hiyadroogs If it was producing ANY energy " in excess of etc. " the only possible result would be continued acceleration of the crankshaft, i.e. revs would tend to infinity until it blew up. it is only producing what it needs to run at those rpm it is running at. Losses - wind resistance at flywheel, belt friction, internal friction etc.

  • Comment removed

  • @wiredforstereo Interesting theory debate. On an old rust buck engine video no less. lol

There in fact is HP being "consumed" You’re forgetting about friction and inertia. While the engine is not producing a surplus of power, the engine is still producing some HP but just enough power to drive the belts and the flywheel/valve train/pistons/rods/crank to a certain speed. The only load on the engine is its own internal friction and that of the alternator, water pump, etc.

  • i'd put that beat in a ratrod:D

  • Didn't know perkins made a v8.. what is this out of?

  • @TheDennislaws Hi, it came out of a dodge fire engine.

  • @TheDennislaws

    It does sound nice.

  • @TheDennislaws massey ferguson ran perkins v8's for awhile

  • could use this for my gocart^^

  • I have a vega that this would fit right into...

  • @screeminjimmy027 this engine is a high compression diesel engine. not a gas engine.

  • @ESY835 Wow,then it really doesnt sound like a diesel at all.More like an angry v8 petrol big block engine.

  • Iam Scared..=D

  • where's the puffin noise coming from?

  • Its is coming from the compressor.

  • is that the perkins 510?

  • @jaggass its a 540.

  • mini motor with tht on it if u cud get it on lol

  • un vrai moteur ! belle sonorité !quel puissance et cylindrée fait-il ?

  • Slap it right on the go-kart lol.

  • nice

..how's the engine running, I don't see it going anywhere ;)

    dont you mean working loll

    jk jk

  • i wan put that on mah motorcyle

  • Rozkosz

  • something beautiful

  • Ou Yeaah.... Imagine that thing in a 1969 Charger!!

  • BEAST MODE!

  • just out of curiousity, what is happening when you press the gas pedal on a car? obviously the car goes faster but what i mean is, does spark plug in a otto cycle fire faster or something? physically whats going on in the engine when you step on the gas?

  • the gas pedal regulates the air intake

  • @iverson246

    you are wrong

in an injected diesel engine the throttle only regulates the amuont of fuel injected.

diesel engines run on full air supply by design.

butterfly flaps (or other instruments to regulate air flow as BMWs valvetronic) only exist in otto/petrol engines.

  • depends on if it's petrol or diesel as it's completely different. Also depends if it is fly by wire or not.

  • @speedy94519

    Google howstuffismade.

  • gas engines regulate the amount of air and fuel by either carburation (a venturi compensates air+fuel based on throttle position) with a spark advance that makes the spark plug fire earlier the faster the engine is spinning. fuel injection electronically meters the amount of air entering and compensates for it... diesels are way different in that they dont have spark plugs and rely on compression to ignite the fuel. Gasoline ignites at high heat and diesel low. air gets hot when compressed.

  • @speedy94519 I think it draws more fuel and air into the carburetor and and creates a bigger explosion, and that pushes down the pistons faster and since the spark plugs are timed with the engine, they do fire faster too, and therefore it makes the engine run faster and the car goes. (you have probably found out by now though)

  • @speedy94519 depends on alot of things, if it is gas or diesel, if its gas is it fuel injected or carburated. i know more about gas engines than diesels, so ill explain a gas motor. when you press the pedal, if its cable drive the cable moves the butterfly valve in the throttle body. if its drive-by-wire then an electrical signal is sent to a servo which moves the butterfly valve. then there is a thing called a throttle postition sensor, or TPS.

  • @speedy94519 cont from ^^, the senser tells the computer how far the throttle is opened, and the computer regulates how much fuel goes through the injectors. this causes the engine to cycle faster because there is more air and fuel in the cylinders. then the power is transmitted through the flywheel, into the transmisson and through a bunch of gears, then either out to the rea
