Just out of curiousity, why is it that it's so often that zerg players go really heavy on roaches (almost pure roaches), have the time and money to upgrade burrow and tunneling claws but choose not to?

I mean it helps against Force Field, regen, dark templar harass (without observers)... This is an honest question.

if the protoss has an observer burrow doesn't work. They move to slow underground, their regen doesn't outheal the damage etc.

It simply doesn't work against detection.

@Bratcipheo That's certainly true. But I mean... if you have almost pure roach army, lots of minerals and gas... Why not? I'd seen plenty of games where all that was needed was the roaches burrowing under the forcefields to decimate the protoss, slow movement or not. Has this been changed so that roaches cannot burrow move under forcefields? And of course, after any engagement, you can burrow the roaches whenever it's safe to do so to heal everyone up to full..

moving under forcefields towards the opponent is actually bad.

They do more damage than you outheal, they can simply cast forcefields on top of the burrowed roaches, so that they cant resurface.It's simply not working.

@Bratcipheo Not really. I've seen Idra and many other high level Zerg players pull it off in many situations. At the very least, it helps in healing after an engagement faster. There's so many uses to burrow... And seriously.... If your WHOLE army is just roaches... you're telling me it's not a worthwhile upgrade when you're floating 1k plus? But differences of opinions aside. CAN you burrow move under a forcefield now?

And i ass a Zerg player explained it to you.It's just not worthwhile.Ofcause i want it if its free, but often 250 m. and 250 gas. are spent better here and now on roaches.

Youre probably right after 4-5 base, but 2-3 base at those special timings, that much gas would cost you so much. 7-10 less roaches.

I've only ever seen pros pull off burrow roach timings when they have some reason to believe that the Toss will not have detection (which is really rare). The one toss build I can think of that would allow you certainty as a zerg that they won't have detection around the burrow move timing would be Stargate opening off 1 base.

Extremely situational timing for the zerg. In all other scenarios the cost/benefit ratio doesn't work out in favor of zerg.

@Bratcipheo Plus it's not only purely offensive burrow move. Lots of time, the Protoss can try and catch maybe ten roaches off with FF. In many situations, with burrow move, you can save as much as half to three quarter of those guys where without burrow move, you'd lose all of them.
