Tried to use it several years ago, after relocating from Virginia, but didn't schedule in the time to get down the park side of the road (in a 1997 Nissan 200SX that had scaled so many backroads in VA/NC/PA/GA/TN that it should be in a shrine - up to almost 596K on my baby). Reminds me in some ways of White's Ferry crossing the Potomac in Montgomery Cty, MD to just north of Leesburg VA...
Love the story by tcourt....until you've lived in FL, you don't really appreciate the nature!
Marilyn and I stayed at the fish camp for several months around the time of Katrina and Rita. Frogs bark like dogs, spiders bigger than Texas tarantulas, snakes, gators, bears and even monkeys after the huricanes.WTF, you're in the State Forest. Best time we ever had. Wouldn't have missed it for anything. Thanks Dick and Dale. Marilyn's gone now but will always have the memories. Plan on visiting again before end of this year,2011. Bet things haven't changed much in 6 yrs...Hope not. Good times4all
My friends, Debra and Arline and I were on a spur of the moment tour of the state when we stumbled across this ferry a couple of years ago. Amazing find ... I'm going to get my grandkids up there to see it someday.
Ilove salt springs, please don't tell anyone about this beautiful place, the northerners will come here and yell and scream when they talk and ruin the peace, serenity and awsome power of the area around salt springs............yep , I'm an ocala native
it is such a beautiful place isnt it! my great grandfather used to have a house on lake kerr that we would always vacation at (im from jacksonville), now we own a small lot inside the elite resort directly across from the road that leads to this ferry in salt springs. one of our fav. things to do is go across there at night in a golf cart or truck and just watch the wildlife and talk and make memories. no better place on earth. would hate to see it ever change
I have been on that a few times when I used to ride my KLR 650 in the area.
