  • Thanks I need to see this. I want to work on frame by frame and I wanted to see if it would amount to anything.

    Very inspiring!

  • that was so sick

  • About to try animation and this is inspirational! Many thanks.

  • * awesome * I dig your artstyle !!

  • i draw cartoons with jsut a simple pencil and paper you should make a video of you drawing a pic with that i think it would be cool but reat work with that!

  • i hope this makes sense but how do you have good control with the lines? do you draw slowly or..?

  • This is really cool! Well done! :D

  • What program is?

  • You can tell when someone's using flash because the lines disappear and you have to redraw them repeatedly.

  • name of the song please

  • wow! Nice character design! I love it!

  • Fantastic Work!! Keep at it Bro!!

  • Awesome buddy

  • Huh, I got a free animation program called pencil I found on the net just haven't got time to practice a decent art style for my characters.

  • Great !

  • how do you get access to this.. wacom tablet ??

  • nice aniamtion, i hope ill be able to do this one day. at the moment i can only do blutack aniamtion!

  • very awesome! thanks for the inspiration :)

  • that is verry good!!!

  • wow, simply wow, i wish i could do that, subscribed ;)

  • @ThePatrickOliver

    Thank you very much !

  • @ThePatrickOliver ...this guy has talent!!!!

  • What's a Wacom Tablet? and I didn't know you could do this in Adobe Flash...

  • Woah! I've never seen that before..... simply inspiring!

  • @UncleSi

    Many thanks friend :)

  • I tried drawing on one of these computer pads and the shit is a lot harder then it looks

  • Pretty cool dude. This is great key framing work. You pulled it off close to 10 minutes =) Keep at it.

And also, you're using the music theme from Guardian Heroes aren't you? This is mostly of the conversation the characters have during the text dialogue, good choice.

  • @JojoHMD

Thanks for watching and your support friend it is much appreciated. Yes indeed guardian Heroes is an excellent Game with Excellent Music & must not be forgotten like so many classics!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS HELPS TONS, i'm starting on my first year of 2D 3D animation in college and this is exactly what i needed to know how to do animations..... it's my way of learning.. =D thank you thank you thank you

  • @Mimibie

Thabkyou for watching! I am glad you found my little video of some help. Best of luck with your degree! :)

  • I'm very interested in becoming an animator and i found this really cool!I would like to ask you,if you need to have special skills to do things like that! For example someone in my age(16),having the basics drawing skills and learn this program by himself, can he do things like that?

  • @eva0mwah

Thankyou for your interest. I would suggest you do not concern your self with computer programs at all. If you are interested in animation as you age and go through college and uni you will get exposure to these packages . IT IS NOT THE PROGRAMS THAT MAKE YOU ABLE TO ANIMATE. you must build a foundation develop your drawing ability. Learn anatomy study from life and books at how the body moves. copy styles you like but secondary to life drawing. Any one can do it! Best of luck!

  • @eubasaban It's very true!!!...where did you go for animation?...i'm thinking of going to sheridan!

  • @101janos

Hey janos. I studied animation in the UK the course wasn't very helpful. I used the three years to develop learning from books mainly 'Disney animation the illusion of life' and keeping in touch with professionals in the industry so i made sure I was doing the right things. You are thankfully more fortunate than I in that regard as Sheridan is a great place that turns out many nice films and good animators! Best of luck to you my friend!

  • Quick Question. I have a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch Tablet, is there any way I can modify that annoying Hover feature so the cursor won't move unless the pen tip is pressed?

  • @ObiTrev I have got to say, that is kind of stupid.

  • @ConnorBlount ...and yet you responded to a post that was two months old.

  • Comment removed

  • Dumb question, loved the video by the way, what tool and version of flash did you use? I'm guessing since you say "penciling out" you used the pencil tool... but just wondering haha Wonderful animation, loved it :) I know you posted this two years ago but I hope you still reply!

  • @BlueMaroonSS

Thankyou kindly for your interest and comment. I used the standard brush tool on the pressure setting...I referred to the scene as a penciling out because it is just a quick rough play... it would have to be taken much further for it to really become a finished piece of 2d animation.

  • awww stopplaying that japanese crap!!

  • in who program you create this animation? Please tell me how to download it.

  • Excellent tutorial! I've learnt more from this than some of my art classes! Thanks for the insight!

  • @trinitoons

You are most welcome my friend!

  • Someone please tell me how i get the drawing to look like that insider Flash cs4 if anyone

  • @ageshero he used the Tablet.....and a little bit of talent!!

  • whats is the name of the software sir ?

  • You can do this with any software you want... As long as you know how to draw. ;)

That's where the problem comes in and were people get stuck like I was or getting out of now. I love hand drawn animation over cut out animation.

    Good work any how...

  • man that is good!

  • Excellent work.

Guardian Heroes music is a nice touch too!

  • That's amazing!

  • There is something magic about animation, and this is so magestic!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing. How did you get the faded effect to help with drawing the next image?

  • you use the onion tool for that effect. you can set how far back you want to be able to see the old drawings by drawing the icon so many cells. i hope i explained it simply enough.

  • Thank you so much :D

  • am geting a tablet soon... cant wait selling 1 in my market just 4 40£

  • Wow thank you so much! I'm attempting tracing paper and pegbar animation, but there is not too much info on this "old" process. Your demo has helped a great deal, and i can see how old school cel animation has informed your process in flash. Great job!

  • do you use a drawing tablet ? :o if so, what is the name of it please :)

  • he used a wacom tablet. you can get one at best buy or get one off ebay if you know what you want and how much you want to pay.

  • how did you make your pencil tool a cursor type target , i know the name of it but howd you get it

  • wow! learnt quite a bit from this. loved it!

  • Thankyou kindly...I'm glad my video was of some use to you my friend :)

  • What program is this? o:

And by the way, love it. Your artistic talents are incredible!

  • Thankyou kindly :) The programme is flash.

  • which tablet?

  • Intuos3

  • that's incredible :D

  • Thankyou kindly :)

  • you must make a tutorial!!!

  • Thankyou kindly! am considering it :)

  • nice!

  • Wow this was beautifully done, I cant seem to handle flash painting to be honest, it's the paint tool your using right? and the onion skin tool over the bits you need?

Sorry just asking cause I'm studying animation myself, and the use of straight ahead is awesome, though I'm learning keyframe and its sorta driving me mad...XD lol

I love it, I love it's fluidity and the hand too that and it has alot of character! Congrats! ^^

  • Thank you for your kind endorsement Sophie! Yes you are correct I am using the paint tool and occasionally onion skin. The tablet becomes easier once you get used to it (try writing your name over) make bold strokes and dont worry about getting the drawing right it's the action! Practice drawing separately!

This is actually key animation and breakdowns it isnt inbetweened. The idea is if it works well in keys its gonna be great inbetweened though do try mixing straight ahead.Best of luck!

  • this is ace thanks for uploading it! is ther diolouge ? what is he saying ?

  • Many thanks my friend! No there is no dialogue I was just animating straight ahead as a pupose to show the process. Thanks for asking!

  • how do you do the tracing function in flash?

    thanks

  • I'm afraid I am not a flash guru! I just use it to play around with character tests...I trace but by drawing on one layer in a pale colour and then creating a new layer and tracing and cleaning over the old layer in a dark colour much like traditional animation. I don't know if that helps...

  • Comment removed

  • so is each frame is a new layer?

  • onion skin

  • you created your own character...right? did you make the maquettes before making model sheets with your own character?

  • Hey! This character was just made up on the spot for the purposes of this demo...I would say that maquettes and model sheets have their place but are more for large scale productions where separate artists need to maintain model consistency...as an individual working on a smaller projects it is important to understand your design but model sheets and maquettes are not essential. I never really do it with my personal designs. Thanks for asking!

  • So youre an animator? For real? :o

  • Hahahaha yes I know this work isn't too brilliant and as shocking as it may seem from looking at it I do declare that I am an animator! Thanks for asking ;)

  • man I love this

I can really tell that you know what youre doing. Your acting, anticipation, I can see it all in just this little short

I'm just starting out but I hope I can get to the point where I can just eyeball keys like that.

  • Thanks friend.I am glad you appreciate what I am trying to do in this clip.I like to mix pose to pose with straight ahead when I animate,as I believe that in life movements are not planned and are spontaneous.Pose to pose helps keep control over the action but I like to let my intuition have a role in the animation to help keep it a little less rigid.I saw your clip and at your age you are doing great! Moving complex shapes around etc.keep it up and Im sure youll attain your desired level!

  • Did You use the mouse or the Wacom Tablet ?

pc / mac tablet with a pen ?

  • Hey! This was done with a wacom tablet. I use PC but both Mac and PC are great for drawing in the machine.

  • OOh!!! that was woww!!

  • Hey! Many thanks for the kind words!

  • Thats tottaly incredibal! Ive never seen this high level of drawing animation... ur great, hope youll make more videos, and yeah, you need to work for disney!

  • Hey many thanks for your generous words they are highly appreciated! I see you like to do drawn animation yourself so likewise it would be great to see more. Disney may have abandoned its traditional roots but here on youtube we can draw to our hearts content!

  • I will, but I know it should be very hard to get to your level of drawing... =)

  • Thanks again. We all grow with time and practice friend - keep going and you'll see just how good you can be...I'm still trying to get half as good as Glen keane...but thats the fun of it all!

  • Awesome video, I can only do simple animations.

    Do you work for disney?

because you should if you don't.

  • Hey many Thanks!

Haha yeah it was my dream to work for Disney since I was 8 years old... unfortunately that never happened, though I was fortunate enough to work with former Disney leads... Now with the shift to CGI I have had to diversify to storyboard but no bad thing, as I was fortunate enough to board for universal's Despereux (Dec 2008). I checked your site and you have a very charming illustrative style. Simple is often effective. I like Maureen Chlorine!

  • Awesome, man.

  • Thank you kindly!

  • Hey Arsh! That's Flash you're using presumably. Do you often do hand drawn animation like that in Flash?

    Oli

  • Hey Oli!

Yeah it's Flash. Well I never do any serious stuff in it...I mainly use it to practice some skills quickly in the evenings to keep the animation muscles in tact whilst boarding...It can be pushed much further then this but I mostly stick to the good ol paper and pencil! Thanks for asking !

  • Simply amazing! We love this.

You run laps around our stick figures and best work Hah. I bet every time you watch this you go, "Yeah, I did that. And those comments...I deserve 'em. I am the Man!" Hahaha

Facial expressions put a smile on my face lol

    Thanks for the smile Mister.

    ~Dani+Dana

  • Wow! Thanks for such a generous endorsement of my work it is highly appreciated! I am happy to have put a smile on your faces with my scribbles! Though I have to say that I am far from being 'the man' as I have too many animation heroes to live up to! Thanks again for the comment and have fun drawing!

  • Sorry for responding again, this is seriously good lol its like my 10th time watching it. How much smoothing do you use on ur brush? and also how big is the brush size??

    ta mate :)

  • Hey man Please don't apologise for contributing to my page it is most welcome!

You are very generous. Well this little scribble was done all in flash... I used the default brush with the pressure sensitivity switched on and the second smallest default size brush that's all...Vectors have their benefits but the tools are far less diverse then say photoshop...I know too little about flash give you any more info...sorry!

    Thanks again man!

  • eubasaban!! That was seriously awesome!!! it was soooo inspiring, I've been feeling soo lazy today and getting a bit depressed, especially in the area of animation today...but watching this at the end of my day has brightened it up seriously!! i can now go to sleep with that awe inspiring moment in my mind. Keep up the good work! What i'm baffled by is how you keep the strokes so smooth, and how u practice to get everything in the right place?

    Thanks again man

  • Hey there! Thanks for you very generous comment! Its great that you enjoyed this clip...it's purpose was to illustrate that one can have fun experimenting by being loose and free, this can be applied to CG as well in the blocking stage on stepped tangents...as seen it doesn't take long so if it isn't great then chuck it away and start again! For me that's the best way to practice. Thanks again for your kind remarks enjoy animating!

  • only 10 minutes??? this is really nice!

  • Hey Thanks a lot! I did try to push for something a little stronger but time was ticking away and I wanted to see if I could fit it all in the 10 minute time slot...

  • great drawing how do you do it so fast?[ciaran]

    super drawing! can you teach us that great work? {Euan}

  • Hey Boys Great to hear from you! Sure next time I visit I will show you some tricks and you can teach me some football in return! Say Hi to your mum and Dad for me!

  • I GET IT NOW.

It makes a lot more sense watching someone else.

Naw, I haven't been to any classes yet, but I am an aspiring animator and it is helpful to see videos like these.

    Thank you! Mwah! <3
