Feel a bit let down by this. The Killers should have done this one. It's easily the best track on Achtung baby by a mile. I was looking forward to a cover of this track more than any of the others.Just goes to show how good U2 are. Forever 14/08/1993 Leeds Roundhay Park.......
This is a worthy cover. If there was a bit less messing about with the vocals it would be awesome. Is it me, or does a Scot just sound better saying, "Bastards ! "?
@swarmmaster that makes sense. the killers have messed up a lot of songs they covered, now that i think about it (ruby dont take your love to town, hotel california, etc). but i still think their version of ultraviolet is really well thought out. i even prefer it to the original. i also think the killers cover of "four winds" by bright eyes is absolutely brilliant.
@ychamedes The DMode cover is GREAT...it would have fir in nicely with "Songs Of Faith and Devotion" from around the same era. The religious elements in Achtung baby are obviously a big part of DMode's vision as well. I'll have to disagree with The Killers, though. It sounds listless and nary an emotion in sight. Thier cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" suffered similarly. They did a brilliant covers of Dire Straits' "Romeo & Juliet", which suggets they do better with bands of dissimilar sound
it's funny how so many people say that the edge is not a great guitar player, but when a band try to make a cover of a u2 song needs to use keyboards and synths to get closer to the sound that .the edge gets only with his guitar...
@dnlrss Well, this is Glasvegas. Knowing them, they would tend to replace guitar parts with synths because that is their sound. Wouldn't you agree? After all, if the purpose of a cover song is to replicate the original, then why do we listen to it?
@Nicolainebel yes, i would ...BUT, i'm sure that you've heard the other covers of the album...right? and wich is the main musical instrument? SYNTHS!!! whyy???? i'm not saying that Glasvegas's cover is bad, i'm saying that there's too many people saying that The Edge is not a great guitar player...and i'm not agree...and the reason why i'm not agree is because there's a tribute album with 10 or 12 songs, and most of the bands (great bands by the way) played the guitar lines with synths
@dnlrss You make the implication that Glasvegas are in any way talented or have some level of musical skill. Unfortunately they have neither and "The Edge" could lay shites more talented. And I hate "The Edge". But hate Glasvegas more...
@dnlrss ...and seven hundred pedals. Check out the movie "It Might Get Loud." Greatest guitarist ever, no, but definitely one of the most creative and inventive of my lifetime.
@WeMustBeStopped yeah i saw the movie, but everyone use pedals, it would be harder to do metal solos without all that distortion effect ... even when 80% of the sound of the edge comes from an effect pedal, i think he is a great player...
@Ardakapalasan ahaha, don't forget adam clayton and larry mullen, and i think you should watch bono's performance in the U2-GO HOME DVD when they play 'all i want is you' and then goes into 'where the streets have no name' it's just great!!
this is good

@dnlrss U2 is The Edge. Bono just fucking ruins every song with his squeaking and his preaching
