  • I know that poverty was the reality for many people in those times, and I feel for them whenever I read about, or watch images, from those times.

I may be a nostalgic, but what I really miss is the architecture and atmosphere of those days - that 'classic' Hong Kong forever lost in the greedy times of rising skyscrapers and land reclamation!

  • Old Hong Kong looks so modern and cosmopolitan. I am Cuban and it reminds me of street scenes in Havana in the 1940s and 1950s. I must be an honor for someone to have lived there...

  • Hello Mr Michael Rogge , did you know why many people sat down outside the bank ? And look like some policeman stand by there ? Thank you very much !

  • As I explained, it was for higher wages, but I have no details. Police were on guard but did not interfere.

  • Only 50 years past, but the changing is incredible. The uncle inside the video holding so many plate, chopsticks and bowls on head, seems like an acrobat. It's amazing!

  • I love the old Hong Kong.

  • 當年包伙食是非常的普遍, 一九七零年我在中環當文具送貨員時, 每天的中午就會見到很多像在影片裡的大隻哥哥送飯呢.!

  • 我想你是位伯伯

  • They were even before The World Of Suzie Wong !

  • Excellent stuff!

Your clips are like a 'time machine' to me.

I would trade anything for being part of, and living in, the Hong Kong of the 1950's!

You must be proud of having been there, living it to the full, before it vanished!

  • @ismaelrionda Don't forget that for most people the reality was being poor, sick, unemployed, living on the streets or in a squatter village
