When the Angel of Despair came into play he forgot to destroy a permanent and Kibler didn't remind him. If he had destroyed a mana source, then no Baneslayer and Papastroukas woulda won.
How could a player of Kibler's caliber not realize the missed trigger? You know he tests enough, he had all the right sideboard tech so you know he knows the deck. And the whole time Kib's bantering with his opponent (a pro move) who tells him what in his hand before Hypergenesis even resolves, so he holds the BSA thinking it'll die to the trigger that gets missed. and then does nothing... Smart, but no one said cheaters aren't smart.
@ryanmyal Kibler is the cheater. Once Hygergenesis resolved, he neglected to put into play his Baneslayer angel because, due to banter and other subtle clues, he knows it would be destroyed by the Angel of Despair's EtB trigger. watch closely
@PaulYall27 My bad I was on my friends account before, so yeah please explain, and why is kibler a cheater for putting in the meddling mage instead of his BSA? fail at replying to you..
Actually, the Meddling Mages weren't all naming Hypergenesis. If you listen later on, you'll find that 1 was naming Hypergenesis, another was naming Putrify, and the last was naming Firespout, both of which were in Van's hand. If he'd have killed any permanent other than the one naming Hypergenesis, he wins.
It is true that Kibler had the BAngel in hand while Hypergenesis resolved, he even says so after the match at 7:48. He kept it back because of the Angel of Despair, but he thought it was an optional trigger.
But if Van did notice the trigger and destroyed one of the Meddling Mages, Kibler would have still won. He had two additional ones, each naming Hypergenesis.
He would have lost if Van destroyed one of his mana sources, though, because he would have been unable to cast BAngel the next turn.
wow... at 1:20 that play was horrendous.. judges at that event should be shot for letting him "take back" the lightning helix. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't showing Paulo the card, but thought he has the win. What a travesty/ perversion of the rules.
that isnt against the rules. You can show an oppt anything you want from your hand. Paulo never asked him to cast the spell and instead said back up. before you damage me with this card I have a response.
Ikeda did his play assuming the damage from knight went through. Dont assume if you're wrong.
"back up" ??? umm.. he cast the lightning helix before the knight did any damage.... he made a mistake playing it. I highly doubt Paolo said back up... and instead said.. "hah.. yer knight is dead buddy, before its damaging me"
It's pretty clear what his intent was.. and that he made a mistake. It's just too bad the judges / commentators are totally retarded and let shit like this go by without looking at it more clearly. Btw, i did a poll of the Local FNM people and all of em looked at that play and said "wtf, he totally got away with that"
Wake up, even tho on mana was tapped... he threw the card down on the table.. and offered his hand.. clearly the intent to play that spell, and "win the game" was there.
He threw the Helix down assuming damage had been dealt.. He was shortcutting (Which I agree you shouldn't do in competitive play) because the Slaughter Pact scenario didn't occur to him. What if the spell he threw down was a Sorcery or a Creature?
I don't think it really matters what your FNM playgroup thinks, but the opinions of the judges at the event, and (obviously) they didn't have a problem with it.
Kibler obviously knew about the trigger. Why would he keep his Baneslayer in his hand otherwise? He even mentioned that it in the "Day 3 Wrap-Up video" If you tell me another good reason to not put the Baneslayer into play except the Angel of Despair trigger then I might change my opinion about it.
Even if Kibler did knowingly not say anything about the Angel trigger there are still like three judges watching the match and they all missed it. So even tho its the players responsibility to remember to keep track of the game state, players make mistakes. Its more on the officiating for not doing there job.
if you listen to the post game interview, kibler syas that he thought angel was a "may" effect. thats why he didnt say anything.

ALSO, these judges are so blind.

Actually; At Proffesional REL, they would both get a game loss.
The trigger; would be ruled as mistrigger; and get put on the stack immediatly(?).
Which they would get a warning for.
Then they would both get a warning for:
GPE - Failure to maintain Game State.
Which would then lead to a rematch.
