Contact your internet service provider to get the DNS information from them. Just tell them that you're trying to connect your xbox.

@12345jrt yes, i solved this problem like a year ago, but its very tricky. you see..your router reads your interent connection and network differently and wonlt connect by just changing an ethernet cord. The simple solution i came up with is everytime you switch cords from network/internet to your xbox live cord you must reset your router. If you dont know how to do tht there should be a small pencil tip size button you must poke with a pen or something to reset.u must reset router evry time

If your lookin for you ip or dns for vista go to start and at the bottom where is says search type in run a box should pop up, in that white box type in cmd. a block box should pop up, type ipconfig. you should see your ip address, dns server(primary and secondary), and gateway thing for xbox. then put it in manually on your x-box, and that should work......

what these fucktards always fail to mention what the working ip address is beside! When u see the black box and have typed in ipconfig/all Look for IPv4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . (ip adress that works!)

and unplug ur comp from the modem and just plug ur xbox into the modem then find the bit wer u type the DNS manually then type in the IPv4 ip! best advice i think u should all take ;)

type in ur mac address... i called xbox tech support like 80 times and road runner once and then i found in additional settings for network settings that u can put in a mac address... so run: cmd then type ipconfig/all and look for physical address and it should have 6 or something like that of 2 digits/letters and write it down and put in alternate mac address on ur xbox it saves a lot of time u don't have to put in the ip or dns manually:)

Okay, listen up. I just fixed my DNS problem. Try this: open your network settings page (left click little computer in trey), left click your broadband connection (the first from the top), open the advanced tab and check off the first box allowing others to connect to your computers internet connection. Follow the given instructions (re-connect to internet) and then restart your console. Good luck, it worked for me...
