  • I think that 2006 series is the best version of them all. this one is so...... bad.

  • I had hopes for this version.

It starts off good but gets steadily...less good

  • Jane looks so beautiful in her wedding gown

  • I saw this movie before I watched the 2006 BBC's adaptation a few years ago, and I hated it. The acting is terrible. I'm not saying that the actors are bad, but perhaps they are not fit for the roles. I had given up hope on seeing an adaptation of Jane Eyre that was good enough, until 2006. I fell in love completely with the series and even bought it when the DVD came out. Now 2011 another Jane Eyre movie came out and is just as terrible as the 1996 one, don't waste your time watching it

  • So much for Jane not being "an automaton", for Jane having "as much heart and soul", shes like a robot, and Rochester is just completely wrong, physically (I get that everyones imagination is different so on this point I dont really mind but hey) and personality wise, he has absolutly no life and the two of them clearly have no passion for each other whatsoever, bollocks to this im going back to 2006

  • I actually like this one, probably because I saw it first.

  • Jane Eyre looks a lot like olive Popeye the sailor's girlfriend.

  • 1983 version, much better!

  • WTF, this scene is nothing like in the book! I love the 2006 version, it's soooo much better than this. <3

  • I expected more from this film. There is no chemistry between the main characters. Still the rest of the cast is just perfect - I love Adele and miss Fairfax.

  • Es la versión que mejor reparto tiene, los mejores exteriores y vestuario... Hubieran estado geniales con el guion de la versión de 1983

  • VERY BEAUTIFUL jANE AS A bRIDE.......

  • noo what i found so heartbreaking was how she left WITHOUT saying goodbye to mr. rochester!! :( my dear mr. rochester would never allow her to leave....

  • It's not a version, it's a mutilation, a violation, an abomination. It's also boring. Nice cinematography and music don't save it. Some good actors don't save it. Charlotte Gainsbourg is even worse than Sorcha Cusack - she was all wrong, but at least she was alive...! Thanx, OshunHH, for posting, even though it is a bit of a torture to watch...:-)

  • i like this version

  • Jane looks so pretty in those dresses, but I prefer her pearl-gray gowns.

  • This version, is good. But in many ways, I do feel that there is a lack of passion, and affection between Jane and Edward. He is very, childlike.. protective in this point in the novel. He's very much in love. The portrayals in this film are well done, but I think it is a matter of the director in which this film, may not be as well done, as it could. William Hurt, is an amazing actor but not my first choice for Mr. Rochester.

  • I like so much better the 2006 BBC series! But that's also due to the fact that it's a series not a movie, therefore it has a lot more details! Which makes it better! :)

  • Zeffirelli's version is, in my opinion, one of the best adaptations of this great book. the dynamic between jane and rochester is like the book, subtle but intense and realistic. the characters are supposed to be repressed, introverted and scared of their feelings. i really don't mind eroticism in films but that would not be right for this story. it's all on how the actors use their lines and the silences between. they show the complicated emotions of love and passion with restraint.

  • She doesn't look as crazy as i imaged her to be

  • I think this is my favorite Jane. William Hurt doesn't have the passion as Rochester though. He certainly is grumpy, but nothing smolders here.

  • I dont know what people are going on about chemistry. I felt it so strongly as soon as they locked eyes the first time they met. The tension of careful glances and so much unspoken words. This is my favorite version out of all..

  • @good4myears

I agree. The awkwardness between the two is just beautiful, but it is something you have to read into. And thats okayy with me!

  • Completely agreed w. @good4myears... I feel as though throughout all the portrayals of Jane Eyre & Rochester, this couple was the best. The tension, the way they look or talk about each other; they are just one of the greatest couples I've ever seen and IMO this adaptation was the best one.

  • THIS IS A GREAT TAKE ON THE BOOK AND I BELIEVE THEY DO HAVE CHEMISTRY!....YOU KIDS MUST YET TO FEEL THE CHEMISTRY ....LOVE ALL VERSIONS OF JANE EYRE

  • i think there a lot of passion in their eyes

    i lived it ......

  • yeah, there was absolutley no chemistry... idont like how its so forced, jane and rochester should have had more moments, more filling flirting moments- there was nothing in between. 2006 version had good chemistry, real passions. way better.

  • It's so heartwrenching to hear him screaming not be left by Jane.

  • Awww Jane! Don't leave him Jane!! Lol

  • it's bad luck to see the bride be4 the wedding...

  • @siewen1 Mr. Rochester.. doesn't care. Lol... if you've read the book you know why.

  • I like this Mrs. Rochester better than in the book. She is much more of a person here than the terrifying Mrs. Rochester in the book.

  • this version's pretty good... but how could they take away the best farewell scene ever written? when he throws himself on the couch and cries, "My hope-my love-my life!"? i don't, however, miss the shopping part... glad they left that out, i didn't care for that in the other versions even though it's in the book.

  • I should add that since its a MOVIE, they have to take some parts and run the events more faster so it doesnt lose its pace.. Of course, i was disappointed, they took the emotional parts of the book, but they always do that when it comes to movies.. In the series, they can take the liberty of putting more details, since a serie can be more long than a film, so they put more details to fill time..

  • @iSupergirl17 i think there was a lot of emotion but it was said through the way they looked at each other and the words they used to talking to one another

  • I LOVE THIS VERSION OF THE FILM. THE ACTORS ARE GREAT AND THEY MAKE THE MOVIE SOOO GOOD! :D LOVE IT ! :D

  • b-e-a-utiful dress

  • This version is so boring that I find it hard to sit it through. Except for Mrs. Fairfax who is lovely none of the characters touches my heart.

  • the wedding dress is lovely. Just because he has a marriage certificate doesn't mean that Mr. Rochester is married they never had a single day of happiness together and he was married under false pretenses.

  • this is a good movie to watch if one has not read the book.

  • wtf... they could at least keep her escaping at night, it would be much more moving and spectacular. in the book she wasnt gettin out of her room for 3 days, they could make it 3 hours for example and she would run up at night. and why the hell didnt they make her suffering?? i didnt see it at least. no pain, no anything.. i like mr rochester but he just cant make the whole movie good.

  • yeah.. not liking this actress as jane eyre. haven't see any other adaptation but she lacks that fiery passion that the heroine keeps well contained (at most times) beneath a cool exterior which comes out only when it overflows from her. here, the actress just seems...vacant

  • Where's the fortune teller? That' the scence I like most!

  • I think it's quite moving when Jane looks at Bertha.

  • i personally like the 83 version even better than the 06 and this. that rochester is exactly like the book. brings tears!

  • this is really different to the book but i do like the way they show the time at lowood its better than the 2006 bbc version of that time but the 06 version has more passion when she is older :)

  • I can not believe this is another adaptation without the passion and lushness when he tries to get her to stay. I absaloutly luv the 2006 version <3 but that didnt have any passion or ANYTHING either after Jane finds out about Bertha - just a stupid scene that is supposed to be all 'intense' and 'sexual' where he sort of asks her to stay casually and she says no and then he gives up! But I love Ruth Wilson as Jane and Toby Stephens as Mr Rochester.

  • oh come ON! I know Charlotte Gainsbourg is doing her best, but if a crazy woman came at me with a burning stick, I would at least look shocked. She's rubbish at showing ANY emotion. Jane wasn't a cold statue!! Even her 'love' for Rochester looks like she's forcing herself :( Ruth Wilson ALL the way!

  • Charlotte Gainsbourg is good, but Ruth Wilson is better... And for Mr Rochester, Toby Stephens is waaaay better than William Hurt, who seems to sleep when he talks lol... he's quite boring. The chemistry between the two is not very tangible... they don't seem passionate at all. I'd say Joan Plowright (Mrs Fairfax) is probably the best actress in this movie lol...

  • UGH! They butchered the most crucial part of the story and book! Jane's torturous decision NOT to stay! His convincing arguments! Her "I will judge myself" and desperately wanting to stay but her conscious won't let her. Here, it's reduced to two sentences! She just leaves like a ticked off high school girl dumping her boyfriend! NOOO!!

  • sorry - conscious = conscience :)

  • I do love that tune that keeps on playing ( in part 9 between 2:30 and 3: 50) <3! could anyone tell me what its called? please!

  • Anyone who wants a better on screen pairing/film, watch the 2006 BBC Jane Eyre!

  • I feel like this film does not show th passion between the pair. It is too laid back also I feel Rochester acts way too old, the book says he acts young yet his Rochester acts like he is Jane's father.

  • Mr. Rochester was always described as acting young for his age, yet THIS Mr. Rochester seems to be acting to old. Where is that bold stride of his? Do not get me wrong, I do appreciate this version, I just miss some of the characteristics that made Mr. Rochester Mr. Rochester. Thank you for downloading this though.

  • He doesn't seem old, more sot of burdened. I do not remember Bronte describing him to heave a heavy breath, but It seems like to the character. I wish that Alan Rickman played Mr. Rochester.

  • "She's a bit snappish!",haha..:--)))

Thank you for downloading this great movie.

  • i loved this version, even if sometimes is quite different from the book..

every movie is an adaptation of the book, so i think is not right to compare book and movie...just watch the movie without thinking about the book :)))

and about the 2006 one, is true, there are more scenes, but is also true that it is a 4 parts serie, while this one is an unique movie....

  • I read the book, I watched the versions of 1983, 2006 and this one, and I find this version the most incoherent.

The words are so harsh, Jane is cold and harsh. They messed the proposal scene where she calls him stupid.

Sorry that I am not so smitten with this version, they ruined all the romantic build-up up to the proposal scene and left out important scenes that you need to understand the story.

  • i read the book too but i dont think they left out too many crucial scenes, what scenes are you referring to?

  • This is the only scene I have a quarrel with in any of all the versions I have seen. Why can they not make Bertha a appear more insane? She always looks like she is getting angry because of what is being said. If she were truly insane, especially after 15 years in that little room, she wouldn't be able to understand the conversation, or what was going on around her. She, after 15 years, would be only as an animal. She would strike out at anyone, except Mrs. Poole, who keeps her alive.

  • insane people can appear sane at times, they can have episodes

  • Men of his station did not marry the governess, but then this wouldn't be the story that it is, would it?

  • this is a very passive version... in the book, mr. rochester is more passionate and somewhat impulsive with his feelings

  • wow, i wish that was what happened in the book at the last part---how jane just says that he'll never hear her say 'i love you,' again. in the book they were arguing for 40 really long pages, lol.

    i love bertha, though. she's awesome :D

  • I wish that they had shown the conversation between jane and rochester. The one that is in the book before she leaves.

  • The housekeeper looked so happy that the wedding was ruined.

  • poor jane

    omg this is sooo sad

  • im really dissapointed in this version..

there was no passion between them.. idk.

i love 2006 version, there he's a flirt like in the book.

  • Congratulations for being so honest and direct, I argee with you. Check up Dalton as Rochester in 1983 though - performed with great passion.

  • @rosa1221 my thoughts exactly!!

  • @elliesmilegirl great minds think alike :D

  • I don't like this version at all. There is none of the passion and eroticism of the book. The BBC series of 2006 is so much better.

  • @qkpereira The 2006 version is worse than this one by a country mile

  • finally! some passion from mr rochester! he's always talking in a mono tone. its fine sometimes, but he needs more emotion.

  • they left out the gypsy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats my fave scene in the 2006 version. I do like the fact the script sticks to the words of the book.

  • her crazy ass keeps playing with fire

  • joan plowright(widow of laurence olivier) gave the best potrayal of mrs. fairfax

  • It's not even the proper hand for the ring! It's Supposed to be on the left hand 2nd finger!

  • not in every country... in latin countries the ring goes in the right hand... lol

  • Horrible version. It leaves out so much.

  • don't most film adaptations of books?
