  • Thanks for this awesome post......I just wish you'd have let us hear what Jefferson said back to President Washington there at the end. I suspect that Jefferson was in favor of helping the French....

  • The French loan America over 30 million dollars during the revaluation and almost bankrupt king Louis XVI, the French just wanted help in return

  • Hamilton looked like he could care less about France, lol..... many of us today share the same feelings about France...

  • @CaptainRon956

Well, well no one liked Hamilton anyways. He alienated people just like you probably alienated people. He wanted a Monarchy. Even Washington and Adams ended up turning against Hamilton. Good to see you support something shitty like Hamilton. I don't give a fuck if he was a founding father. Not even the founders liked him.

  • Wow the french are pricks! lol

  • Its amazingly sad how we went from this foreign policy to preemptive war.

  • @Jononutoob I have no problem at all with looking out for number 1.

  • At 1:23 the dude next to hamilton is like "werd nigga"

  • The French position here is completely understandable- but Hamilton was correct. The treaty was nullified with the death of Louis and the fall of his govt, but that's very "lawyerly" & slippery. I don't know what I would have done were I in Washington's shoes. My heart tells me render to assistance to the French & my head says stay out of it & don't antagonize a very powerful enemy w/ thousands of troops in Canada. That being said, the American & French revolutions were 2 VERY different animals.

  • The beginning of the french revolution was inspired by America's revolution but the reason america stayed neutral was because the leaders became witch hunters started killing anyone who opposed them and became what they swore to destroy I have no idea why America became allied with the still pompous society of Britain but I am proud to say Napoleon and Jefferson respected each other during Jefferson's presidency Napoleon cleaned up the mess Robspierre made

  • People love to point out Washington and Adam's efforts to avoid entering into European wars, but the fact is that we were as much involved in the French Revolutionary Wars as Iran was/is in Iraq. Jefferson wrote the Declarations of the Rights of Man with Lafayette in Paris. Americans fought in France and in Ireland, and when Napoleon hijacked the French Revolution, Americans soon enough were officially at war with Britain. Let us keep this in mind when reflecting on American non-interventionism.

  • I personally think we should have supported France against Britian, The monarchies of Europe were no friend to American independence at the time

  • @markmason1000 The regime that took power in France wasn't exactly friendly towards it's people's liberties.

  • Sadly, the only real revolution to ever take place was the American Revolution. Every other so-called revolution only exchanged one set of rulers for another set of rulers.

But the real cause of the American Revolution was not against the "tyranical" monarchy since the so-called king was in debt to the bankers who now control America as well.

More wars for the international bankers and "Israel?"

  • "Threat to France, threat to America" - Sounds familiar? Anyone?

  • What movie is this from?

  • @TheSquarepantz It's not a movie. It's the HBO series John Adams.

  • The British, our most reliable ally? War of 1812? How many times did we go to war with them or almost go to war with them? We almost went to war over a border dispute involving Maine. Meanwhile, France eventually stabilized itself and went on, under Bonaparte, to change the face of Europe forever... Research your history before making yourself look like a fool.

  • @postponedlife

War of 1812 caused by American war mongering in Canada

  • @TogusaM207 The War of 1812 was caused by British Privateer raids on American trade ships trading with Napoleon. The invasion of Canada was a response to British ships seizing American ships and crews.

  • @TogusaM207 If your British ships stationing in Canada stop raiding our ships and used them to serve the Royal Navy, we would not invade Canada at all.

  • Absolutely the best route for America to have taken, if America would just wake up we would see that Ron Paul follows the exact standards in which these American hero's confide for all of their decision's...The Constitution. Please if any of you have not heard of or are on the line about Ron Paul I urge you as a fellow American to take your Countries best hope for restoration into consideration and research Ron Paul. YOU MUST REGISTER 12 WEEKS AHEAD TO VOTE IN PRIMARIES DO NOT HESITATE!!!!!!

  • @redXtensionsofme

    Ron Paul ; Long Haul~

  • Hamilton was also thinking rationally, because if France's Republic did fail and its monarchy was restored, they very easily might have disqualified any payment of the debt owed to France by the United States during the French Republics existence(which France wld be justified under the Law of Nations). The Neutrality Proclamation(mainly designed by A.H.) was the best policy to adopt. The newly formed American Nation was in no position for any kind of war - commercial or military

  • Ol' Jeffy should be- and certainly was, shyly embarrassed for his rather seditious role in the whole Genet affair. Even Genet, long after his retirement to New York reasoned he had be mislead and betrayed by Tommy J. btw..America(thanks to the brilliant fiscal policies of A.H.) were fully repaying the Rev. debt owed to France by this time. Genet was sent to procure advanced payments of the debt in the form of food & supplies; which were meant for her West Indies possessions then in revolt.

  • Your very true.. But the same could be said of America liberating France in WW2.. It wasnt for the love of France or for freedom and democracy but because the Japanese bombed pearl harbour, and then Hitler declared war on America...

  • I Think alot of French hostility towards America stems from this.. However selfish there motives, the French supported the American Revolutionaries, and gave alot of blood and treasure to free America, yet as soon as that was achieved the Americans began to cosy back up to the British.. When the French had there own revolution and Europe`s monarchies turned on France, the Americans proclaimed neutrality but in truth Adams was eager to get back in a relationship with the British..

  • The french only helped america b/c they wanted to get back at their rivals, they had no sense of doing this for freedom...as a fresh new country and having to take care of things back home...washington made the right choice to not have his fresh made military go all the way over to europe

  • america was like hey thanks for picking up the tab on our revolution sorry that your country is in complete chaos, well we got work to do back here, but good luck with everything and if you need us give us a shout,,,,,,150 years later America decided to return the favor.

  • The French have always been a little over the top. Cutting off all those poor souls heads, all that blood and gore. Those poor people - not even giving them the choice to leave France. And their children aswell. What kind of people were they?? America was a lot more compassionate than that. I don't blame them for staying out.

  • This is the shining example of a non-interventionist foreign policy at work. Washington wisely knew the dangers of involvement in foreign conflicts. Look at how far we've fallen...sad.

  • @VotePaineJefferson: Ah but the problem with that was that if it wasnt for foreign intervention, chiefly French, the United States would never have become independent

  • @VotePaineJefferson America's greatest general is arguing for non-intervention...that really exposes the lie that a non-interventionist foreign policy would leave America militarily weak!

  • @VotePaineJefferson As an American, i agree. We should pull out troops from Europe and let them defend themselves. Since they hate us so much desipte the fact we propped up their economic system, i say we should not give them aid and not help them at all. When Europe got a war again, let's sit back and not help at all.

  • @Hperman09 You did just sit on your arse and did it see where it got you ?!

Pearl Harbour the Fall of the Philipenes Wake islands.

Hell had it not been for the lucky break at Midway well lets just say the US would have been humiliated by Japan.

But anyway you might have to pull out soon the Pax Americana is coming to an end.

  • @thebritish25 That was pre-WW2 interventionism when the U.S. stay out of business because we assume it's their own problem. Interventionism wasn't a populat thing among Americans before the Pearl Harbor attack. After WW2, it's decided that the U.S. had to aid to their allies and not stay in isolation again because we found it would not work. The irony is that people accused America is being world police yet other countries cannot do it themselves. Like Europe needs the U.S. for help in Bosnia.

  • @VotePaineJefferson The circumstances are far too different, it would be silly to compare a situation from the 18th century to one in the 21st.

  • @TheSirPrise Yea you're right. That's why I think we should throw out the constitution, setup military bases all over the world and go to war without a declaration.

The founders have nothing to teach us. Move along people, nothing to see here.

  • @VotePaineJefferson Fuck off you sarcastic twat, not once did I mention throwing out the constitution or conquering the world you cum stain. Don't even bother trying to twist my words to suit your own fucking warped views. The Iraq, Libyan and Afghan war's are far too complex in their objectives and purposes to be compared to the various wars of the coalition in the 18th/19th century. The US would not intervene then simply because they were far too weak to take on such a feat.

  • @TheSirPrise Far too weak, eh? You sir are stunningly and embarrassingly ignorant of the military industrial complex. Well meaning conservatives who strongly endorse the American empire should reconsider their position, focusing on the MASSIVE loss of innocent life and harmful effects war spending has on our economy and trade deficit.

But look how quickly you abandoned your intellectual position in favor of name calling once I exposed the absurdity of your argument! LOL. Have a nice day.

  • "Historical basket-case"?? Based on what? And how was Britain "our most reliable ally"? Was that before or after they started seizing ships from us and began the War of 1812. History is waaaaaaay more complex than you'd like to think.

  • History; its a bit complicated isnt it?

  • Man if only US stayed neutral in most of the problems today would be nonexistant

  • @bookfiend2009 I agree this does include staying out of WW1 and WW2?

  • @Hperman09 1941 America was attacked which is basically when America entered the war. America was taking care of business that is different. Before then I could say a few things but I don't want to get on my soap box.

  • @bookfiend2009 Actually it was our lend lease policy that brought us into WW2 in the 1st place. We gave billions to other countries like China and UK free of charge and that got Japan mad.

  • @Hperman09 Your right but I was speaking in general not technical terms

  • @bookfiend2009 Had we not give aid to UK and other nations like China, we would not been involved in WW2.

  • @Hperman09 Perhaps perhaps not there are other factors too factors people really do not want to talk about. (of course a lot of it could be border on the conspiracy theories), but you are right

  • @bookfiend2009 But I disagree with you notion that if the U.S. stayed out the world be better like if the U.S. was responsible for world problems. but if other nations, mostly our allies, somehow its ok?

  • @Hperman09 You missed my point I did not imply that at all (if it was felt like I implied that; I apologize not my intention) I do not believe the U.S. is responsible for the world problems. I think decisions are made & SEEMS like the U.S. is. U.S. cannot police the world & i honestly do not think the U.S. should try too. Sometimes one has sit & wait while other times you have to jump quickly (WW2) . It seems to be the age old argument. I didn't mean 2 ruffle any feathers that's all

  • @bookfiend2009 I do agree we CANNOT always police the world and solve other nations problems. The thing is that most nations do not have the politcal and military resources like we do. During the 1990s Balkans, the EU countries tried to show their own leadership by solving their own problems in their backyard against Serbia with non-violence. But they were weak to do so and handed over the leadership to the USA. The USA under that leadership ended the genocide of the Balkans with brute force.

  • @Hperman09 ' The USA under that leadership ended the genocide of the Balkans with brute force.' - what on earth are you talking about? The US wasn't involved in any of the major conflicts in the balkans, and.they only got involved in the (relatively minor) Kosovo crisis because Tony Blair begged Clinton to help. The UK and France hads thousands of peacekeepers there for years when the US wouldn't lift a finger to help.

  • @YouAreAnIdiotSoThere Actually you're talking about Bosnia and if you're talking about peacekeepers, we didn't put them there in Bosnia because of the Black Hawk incident in Somalia 1993. It ruined Clinton's chance of deploying peacekeepers in Bosnia because he said it needs an exit strategy. And UN peacekeepers in Bosnia are the reasons why it's hard for NATO to bomb the Serbs because they would be used as human shields against NATO airstrikes. That's why UN didn't deploy them in Kosovo.

  • @YouAreAnIdiotSoThere And the U.S. did end the genocide in Bosnia while rest of Europe sat on their asses and do nothing about it. They can't solve their own backyard(when is the last time Europe solves problems in our backyard?) They think that being pacifists is the only way to stop the killing yet did nothing about it and the killing goes on. The EU didn't know what to do so the turned over their leadership to the USA. Just to show you that if diplomacy don't work, tried to act really quick.

  • The French were sissies and were getting ready to surrender

  • @gopconservative78 Well the French are SISSIES. Ever since the 1800s Napeleon, they always get their asses handed to them in every war.

  • The French weren't out of line asking for help...if it wasn't for France, America wouldn't have won independence. However, America was right to stay neutral. After all, the French helped the Americans not so much for love of liberty, but to humiliate their rivals the British.

  • @Trinity61 Your right. America is a brand new country at this time, we couldn't afford a war with Britain especially when they still have territories in Canada, and we didn't have a standing army or Navy.

  • @Trinity61: Your very true, the same could be said of the Americans liberating France in WW2.. It wasnt for the love of France, or of democracy and freedom but because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and then Hitler declared war on America...

  • @risteardsean Ya i agree we didn't do it our or love but people need to stop acting like if America the only country that is selfish.

  • @Trinity61 and America wouldn't have Ohio (French and Indian War)

  • @Trinity61 right on all accounts

  • @Trinity61 it wouldnt matter what side we fought for we had no army navy and money to fight a large scale war against England yes without france we would lose but it was crazy of the french to ask a newly formed nation to fight a superpower

  • @Trinity61 The monarchy, the executed Louis XVI is who aided the USA, not the french, that government was overthrown in a bloody rebellion.

  • The French revolution stated out correct but devolved into an orgy of violence and murder. The Federalists were right.

  • Great scene

  • @googlexxxxxxx well said I like the fact that is all you said instead of debating about politics that is all it is a movie :D

  • @bookfiend2009 These debates never go anywhere.

  • @googlexxxxxxx aint that the truth
