@jolliffeiscool I wouldn't know myself, but from the sound clips this seems to have more bite. Personally I would never buy a strat with only humbuckers. HSS or all single coils are best, in my opinion.

@rockpwnsu Try plucking as close to the bridge as you can and then pluck over the fretboard and listen to the difference. Midway down the length, the string moves side to side the most and emphasizes bass frequencies, at the bridge and the fret, the string is moving a shorter distance side to side and emphasizes treble. The neck pickup is closer to the middle, so it picks up more bass, and vice versa for the bridge.

@MitchRulzWorld This is a mexi-strat, so it's got the bottom-end whammy. But at $550 you could switch that out with something. Standard Fender trems - whether USA or not - are a recipe for "out of tune". I had a '78 strat that I liked, but don't TOUCH the whammy or you were toast. The G&L system is a big improvement,but I still never felt I could stand on it - Great strat players just deal - they don't whine. If Jeff Beck can make it work, I'll figure it out.

I have been playing for years, mostly heavy metal stuff or hard rock. Never had a Fender until I watched the PGS review of the American Special HSS. Wow! All those classic songs are so easy to play on Strats because you actually get that 'sound'. I am a convert. Sure I wish i could have afforded a top of the line Strat, but I am completely happy with my American Special HSS.

@Canadianspunge Well yeah of course...but this is $550... It's a Mexi-strat (which I have a problem with, but nowhere near the problem of Chinese imports). At $550 you could beef up some of the hardware etc - you couldn't re-fret, but you could for example upgrade the whammy and the humbucker to a 4-wire that could be split into a single coil. Although u have to admit, Andy is rocking the bridge pickup- so maybe don't tinker with a good thing.

Yeah I understand the problem with non-american Strats. That's why when I found the Special line I was dumbfounded. IMO Fender made them better while trying to make them cheaper.

I wouldn't buy this particular FSR because of the colour. Both the orange and the rootbeer are straight up u-g-l-y.
