@Colleen772 Sadly, this is an accurate portrayal of domestic violence. This is not, however, the only form of abuse. There's a long list from physical abuse to emotional, psychological, financial, etc.
Don't be scared of getting married however. When you are ready to get married make sure that you have a support system whom you can talk with. Also, look at how he/she is with his/her own family. And look out for the telling signs. They can be hard to spot, but not impossible.

she should've waited until he left for work,then made her escape. That whack job had a gun in his hand while they were sleeping? That just scared me to the core. Also the scene where Jason was talking with his friend and Maryanne was waiting...that was so sad,she couldn't even let them be kids because the big kid at home would have been mad at her for being even a second late!

he is psycho when she gets home. He was a nut but he was smart enough to know that she probably would leave him if she could. Jason reminds me of my older bro sticking up for my mom when my parents would argue. Imagine if physical abuse were involved. I think this actor captures the true persona of an abusive husband a little more convincingly than Corbin Bernson in Dangerous Intentions.

I almost cried when Daniel pulled that whole anger scene on Maryanne, seriously, the way he swore to her that he would kill her just really upset me, great acting on Tim Matheson, sure makes his character get hated on.

@hayleyart24 Yes, while it is acting, unfortunately it's a depiction of what happens in many homes, even those 'good' homes where people would never imagine such hell is being lived by a woman and her children. It's very sad to see that no matter how much she shows him that he loves him, he can never stop abusing, it's like always trying to look for 'something' wrong when there really isn't anything to find. If a film makes you feel, it means it was done right.
