I can't find this fucking album anywhere...i looked at the Green Day section in my music store and all I found was American Idiot and their new album. No Dookie.
I got into green day with American Idiot, and it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Dookie is good, the production isn't great though. (which is understandable) Still, I think American Idiot sounds similar to Dookie. More similar than Warning did. St. Jimmy, American Idiot, Give Me Novacaine, and parts of Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming sound like they could fit on Dookie. But Green Day has just matured, they're better at their instruments, they're MUCH better at writing lyrics too.
Yeah but if you listen to ALL of Green Days albums you will notice how different each one sounds, if any of you are bored listen to Green Days albums back to back.

That being said their next album is bound to sound different! I am excited to hear what it will sound like.
All I see about Green Day is comparisons of Dookie to 21st Century Breakdown and how Dookie is the best and 21st is the worst. Any REAL fan would be talking about their other albums. For instance, in my opinion, their worst album was Shenanigans, absolute trash. I also think that Nimrod is completely underrated and their best album, because they were punk, but also exploring new types of music Pretty much, I'm just saying shut the hell up and listen. Green Day tapped into some kind of shit-hot fuckery when they created this album - every track is class ..for me it's the most perfect album of my (awkward and shitty and great ) early teens .dookie was the soundtrack for a lot of peoples teenage highs and lows.who cares what they are like now,without them life back then would of been that much worse.
The style definitely has changed, but still this is one of my favorite songs (sure I love all of them).
But their newest album definitely took a less punk feel in terms of lyrics imo. But adding special effects and such also didn't help. But still great work by GD.

If you think carefully, does it matter they changed their sound? They get even poppier in this album from their first one, the clean sound in this album compare to first one. You liked them because that's what what MTV feed you, don't try act all hippies when you are the scener.

I guess this is going to piss you all off. But 90's Green Day kicks the shit out of the 00's Green Day. And stop saying they "grew up." They're not even in their 40s. Look at The Descendents, in their mid to late 40s and they haven't sold out, or as you put it "grew up." Green Day made a shit load of money on Dookie, then didn't sell nearly as much for 10 years. Their wallets got light, so they released something that the mainstream would like.

@SkankingDonkey There's so much wrong with this comment... they *did* grow up. Dookie was written by the minds and maturity of 20 year olds. It's fast, energetic, yet laid back and relaxed. American Idiot was written by men in their mid 30's, who matured. Let's face it, bands that just come up with the same stuff over and over get old fast. Afi, your precious replacements, hinder, they've all basically dissapeared from relevance. I don't understand who ignorant and ungrateful some fans can be.

@paranormal17 The music they produced was pop first, punk second in American Idiot. They sold out their roots to be more radio friendly. I've never listened to AFI or Hinder. The Replacements disbanded. Green Day produced a more poppy sound to make money...Where did you get AFI, The Replacements and Hinder from though..? xD

It's not that hard to understand folks. I like good music. When a band like Green Day comes out with good albums, that's great. But just because they start to release total shit doesn't mean I have to like them still. This "true fan" shit is dumb. I was a true fan until they released shit.
Band's like Nirvana got better when they became more famous. They didn't sell out for more sales. Their sound became better. Green Day became just like all of the other shit we hear on the radio.

I got into green day with American Idiot, and it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Dookie is good, the production isn't great though. (which is understandable) Still, I think American Idiot sounds similar to Dookie. More similar than Warning did. St. Jimmy, American Idiot, Give Me Novacaine, and parts of Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming sound like they could fit on Dookie. But Green Day has just matured, they're better at their instruments, they're MUCH better at writing lyrics too.

Yeah but if you listen to ALL of Green Days albums you will notice how different each one sounds, if any of you are bored listen to Green Days albums back to back.

That being said their next album is bound to sound different! I am excited to hear what it will sound like.

All I see about Green Day is comparisons of Dookie to 21st Century Breakdown and how Dookie is the best and 21st is the worst. Any REAL fan would be talking about their other albums. For instance, in my opinion, their worst album was Shenanigans, absolute trash. I also think that Nimrod is completely underrated and their best album, because they were punk, but also exploring new types of music Pretty much, I'm just saying shut the hell up and listen. Have an opinion, but keep it to yourself.

Green Day tapped into some kind of shit-hot fuckery when they created this album - every track is class ..for me it's the most perfect album of my (awkward and shitty and great ) early teens .dookie was the soundtrack for a lot of peoples teenage highs and lows.who cares what they are like now,without them life back then would of been that much worse.

The style definitely has changed, but still this is one of my favorite songs (sure I love all of them).
But their newest album definitely took a less punk feel in terms of lyrics imo. But adding special effects and such also didn't help. But still great work by GD.
