This hit by Harpers Bizarre was the 99th #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary Charts. It was also the first #1 song on this chart in the year, 1968.
I can't remember the show, but Harpers Bizarre sang this song atop a locomotive engine as it come on to stage - was really very well done. Have never been able to find that video.
Utter jaw dropping perfection. But that's what can be expected from Harpers Bizarre. Few artists (if any) could deliver the harmony-laden dreamscape better than they could.
I had this same scratched up 45 when I was a kid loved it then love it now scratches and all. They made an appearance on Ed Sullivan singing this and riding a little model train on the set. I'd love to be able to find it.
I don't mind the record scratching, but could you re-dub it with a patch cord? That might clear up the audio a bit. Still enjoyed the song. Thanks for posting.
My dad recorded most of this on cassette tape off the radio back in 1972. Same bassy audio effect of a microphone next to a speaker. :)
Something like 25 (or 30? god help me!) I heard a version of "Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear" by (you guessed it) Harpers Bizarre. Somehow and for some reason, I went looking for it tonight. Haven't found it, but have rediscovered Randy Newman and, well, this ...
Still looking for the bear, but wallowing in what's around right now. Thank you.
Another 4 Star rating just because it is nice to hear this song on demand. I am not going to hear it Sirius or XM, which is a darn shame. There are so many great songs that many folks will never hear.

These guys once were a cool little surf band in santa cruz.
Who in the hell talked them into playing this crap anyway?
Its freaking embarrasing.
