This song is in the Carnatic Raga Hameer Kalyani which is the equivalent of Hindustani Kedar.The hindustani Raag Hameer sounds different. A trained ear can easily distuinguish between the two. Technically, the jump to Ma (Shuddha) from Sa is a charecteristic of Kedar unlike Hameer which takes Ri and Ga on the way to Ma. Again a charecteristic feature of Kedar is the sanchara SMGP, while in Hameer GMD is charecteristic. The meend from D to M (Shuddha) is important in Kedar.

Yes, the singer is also the composer. In hindustani as well, this ragam is called Hamir or Hamir Kalyan. Hamir is a very popular ragam in Hindi films.
