The fact that she never struck the officer is completely irrelevent. It was a pre-emptive strike, and it shows what excellent reflexes he has. I dare say nothing would have been said about it, as it is clearly well justified.

It's all very well you saying you think the police act outside of the law, but this was very mcuh within the confines of what the law allows him to do.

I'm sorry, whilst I completely agree she was being verbally abusive, that does NOT mean he can just smack her one! That just escalated the whole situation, you can hear the crowd just roar everytime they hit/batton/shout back at the crowd, which makes them more twitchy and more likely to hit which makes the crowd even more aggressive!! The police in this country do an excellent job. You have to be extremely brave to stand up to a mob of these street 'protesters' who by far out number you and constantly taunt, jeer, threaten and even attack in the most aggressive manner possible. All this and the police have to show restraint. Well its no surprise that this cop lost it for a second and I don't blame him.
