I prefer the Spray Vitamin D3, 5000IU because of the 90% absorption rate. If I take 5000IU via Spray, I absorb 4500IU. Pills only have 10-20% absorption rate through the digestive tract. If I take a 5000IU capsule/pill, I only absorb 500-1000IU. No more pills! Checkout website at vitaspray4u
Ever think that the standard adequate reference range for vitamins is set too high? Especially for the "it" Vitamin D of recent bombarding the media? All we need is freakin 15 mins of sun which everyone in the world gets unless youre trying to be a vampire. Who's pushing the campaign for Vitamin D deficiency? Maybe vitamin supplemental companies have started following the marketing model that pharmaceutical companies have which is advertising crap meds for nonexistent disorders.
Hey, why did my doctor put me on 50,000 IU? I've never been told that anything was worng with me but this year I had a blood test and now I have to tak a pill a week for 8 weeks. 50,000 IU. Isn't that a little extreme for a first time user?
Your video was so informative! Thanks for taking all the data and putting it in understandable layman's terms! I am Vit D deficient and currently taking massive doses prescribed by my Doctor. Your distillation of info was awesome!
current vitamin I take has 800 IU of vitamin D. I have thought about taking cod liver oil, but I'm concerned about vitamin A toxicity. How much vitamin A is okay?
Drisdol is Ergocalciferol D2 it's a rip off. You need 50,000iu D3 CHOLECALCIFEROL search for
Bio Tech D-3-50 (50,000IU) 100ct and you will find a cheap source for daily use I find IHERB NOW FOODS 5000iu cheapest. Use code WAB666 for $5 discount.
But possibly freshly caught natural cod liver straight from the sea may be different from industrially processed, possibly rancid, commercially processed, cod liver oil capsules that have been sitting for some time under fluorescent lighting on supermarket shelves.
Can you guarantee the vitamin A in CLO is not synthetic, or degraded but biologically equivalent to the natural form eaten fresh from the sea?
Is it true that Vitamins A & D mediate each other, that when you take both of them you are able to ingest more than you would normally without having toxic effects?
A interesting poeitic and close look to our paradox (with reference to the video response) of sun dependecy of vitamin D and to where (western) society has evolved to.
Hypothesis: If humans can maintain there vitamin D status well by exposure to the sun, then the amount of consumed vitamin D supplementation should signal society's health.
Too much traffic noise to really enjoy the video and bad sound quality on top of it. Milk in no way contains enough Vitamin D to sustain healthy levels, just forget about milk. Besides, many people are lactose intolerant. Fish may be contaminated with mercury or other toxins like antibiotics if it's from fish farms, not really serious to recommend this either. Besides, the fish dies in the process and the oceans are "overfished" already. Just get supplements or go in the sun. Shirt off, leg free
This was a great vid.I take 1000 IU of vitamin D,probiotics, and other supplements as well.I have ADD and anxiety and my symptoms have greatly improved with the combination of supplements I'm taking.
Haxmuch: The sun doesn't CAUSE cancer. Frying yourself in the sun for too long is what MAY cause cancer. And skin cancer is the most curable, treatable form of cancer...
Excellent video -- especially re the dangers of sunscreens and suntan lotion.
Also its only curable when its caught early, there is an advert going around on tv right now saying that a guy has gotten it and he didnt see a doctor intime, it is now incurable.
There is only one type of cholesterol. Cholesterol itself. It is is one substance NOT 2.
HDL and LDL are NOT cholesterol AT ALL. They are liproteins and noether is good or bad.
They are both very important. The Cholesterol Theory of CHD has repeatedly been shown to be false. Look into Dr. Uffe Ravnskov and ANTHONY COLPO The Cholesterol Theory is a SCAM
Is there a way to get too much Vitamin D? Let's say I take a multi-vitamin with 600IU and then eats foods such as OJ with Vitamin D. If I'm also in the sun then would I get an "overdose"?
1000 IU vitamin D3 supplements, 200 capsules sell for about 6.99$. 400IU vitamin D3 supplements, 80 capsules sell for about 2.99$.
You don't have to buy them at some complicated place, if you live in canada you can easily walk into a Loblaws store, go in the supplement section near the organic stuff and pick up a 6.99$ D3 supplement. Read the label for D3 as it is better than D2 (from 3 to 10 times stronger).
I looked into Vitamin D3's precursor. Guess what? Its precursor is CHOLESTEROL. Makes me wonder if so many people should be concerned about reducing their cholesterol. Would it be true the less cholesterol one has the less is available to become Vitamin D3?
There are diferent types of cholesterol: you have LDL cholesterol which is the bad one that can block your artheries, and there is HDL cholesterol which is the good one, and actually cleans your artheries. This one is gained by consuming healthy fats, such as omega 3 and 6 found in crude extra virgin olive oil, fatty fish such as salmon and tuna, nuts, avocado, etc. So I believe that the precursor is HDL cholesterol, rather than LDL cholesterol, which is what people want to reduce.
your videos are very good. The ability for anyone to absorb anything from milk is very very low in 98% of the world. Especially after the age of 2 or so. The lack of lactase in people world wide can make it very difficult to break down milk. Now that we take antibiotics so regularly our intestinal flora is so poor that any small possibility of breaking down milk is even lower.
Nice video but I think you meant to say 10 am to 3 pm. Walter Willet has made a case for higher intakes of vitamin D in his book Eat Drink and be Healthy back in 2001. Multivitamins with 1000 IU are available.
Wow, respect to you. Nice video, good info and critical evaluation of the information. Great Stuff. I think it would have been cool if you had talked a bit more about the the effects of D deficiency but other wise great. I loved you comment about randomized control studies, Pharma and NIH. I think you will make an excellent doctor.
Thanks, Jeff. This is an important issue. Some people eat no fish and really don't get much sunlight on their skin for months. No wonder we are seeing deficiency.
Hi, another awesome informative video, thankyou! I just wonder if u will post some more videos about your psychology class. I really like the last video you made about schizophrenia, thx again
thanks a lot! yes, there have been theories that in the winter people get more depressed due to lack of sunlight and possibly vitamin D. i'm not quite sure how solid the data is on this, but i wouldn't be surprised if there was some connection.
The link seems pretty strong after reading kaalfoertjie's post about Finland ( remind me not to go live there :P )
I just thought that architects should also incorporate more daylight in a work environment for example a hospital. That way we can work and be healthy and less depressive at the same time!
As one could imagine, Vitamin D deficiency is a huge problem here in Finland, and, of course much has been done about it. Any kind of milk (and yoghurt), in Finland contains enough vitamin D that about 2 glasses a day, should be enough. Vitamin D and omega 3 capsules are also cheap and readily available in supermarkets. This was a very relevant and important issue you brought on. thanks.
hey thanks for your explanation of Finland's situation. the only thing i would add is that in the u.s., the regulation of vitamin D into milk is highly variable, with many gallons of milk not actually having the required amount of vitamin D. my concern would be that in finland, there may be similar issues as well?
I also noticed a comment up there about depression. funnily enough...that is also one of the major mental health problems here in Finland (we have one of the highest suicide rates). I remember talking to a pharmacist about my vit-D situation, since I do not eat fish, and neither am I too keen on milk...and she said that one carton of finnish milk should be enough. But because I do not drink that much milk, I take calcium, omega 3 and vit-D supplements.
...continued: I am now wondering if Finnish milk really does contain what it's supposed to...I will look into this, eventhough I think it would conatin enough. Also readily available in Finland are these types of lamps that radiate sun-like energy, which help a lot with winter depression. I remember they sold out the previous winter because it was so long and cold...
@kaalfoetertjie FYI, Dr. Vieth in his lecture "The Udder Truth" presents how the consumption of dairy (cow milk) products can amplify calcium loss in the human body. And I propose that this elevated loss may cause elevated Vitamin D and Calcium in the people in those regions that consume dairy products. Thoughts?
You can watch the video online just google "udderly amazing"
Thanks for your comment! you can definitely get vitamin D from a tanning bed. however, if you do so, please go over carefully with your doctor to make sure you aren't getting sunburned or skin damage. you can also overdose on vitamin D, but for most people it is very difficult. you'd have to be taking like 100,000 IU a day, from what I recall. 800 to 2000 IU, for most people, is definitely within the normal non-overdose range.
so what you were saying about milk... would this mean that full fat milk is more likely to have it then skimmed? also thanks for this wonderfull video
basically, the amount of vitamin D that is put into milk is not closely regulated. and so when dr. holick did the studies, all kinds of milk, from full fat to skim milk did not have the vitamin D that they said it should have. the figure i remember off the top of my head was that 20% of the skim milk products tested did not contain any vitamin D at all -- but i think it's similar for full fat milk.
sun is good for you,but not too much.i can't be out in the sun because of my Lupus.I still need to take prescription vitamin D though. its expenive.almost $400 just for four pills.u take it once a week.
