at this level of playing there is no 'better'! each guitarist is capable of such a high standard of innovation its like comparing colours, you can have a favourite but neither is truly superior, its a matter of taste, but the quality is undeniable.
Thank you for an accurate and intelligent comment. It is how we as professional artists look at each other. We feed and grow off of our differences and marvel at our similarities. Joe was using his son's Strat on the gig because he wasn't sure what the weather would be like in the islands. He was using my Roland JC-55 because I provided it. It was the first time we had ever played together and hopefully you can tell we had a great time. Those who really knew Joe miss him...
I am deeply saddened by the loss of a friend and great fellow guitar player. I am proud to have worked with Joe. He helped a lot of young musicians find their way and was constantly striving to better the music we call jazz. He is already missed. john shaffer
I had a master class with Mr. Beck in New Zealand a couple of years ago, and I can most definitely say I found him to be a very positive, helpful, friendly man, and a phenomenal master guitarist. Please, Mr. Fool, don't put others down on message boards, doing so is destructive criticism.
Joe has been a friend of mine for many years, i took lessons with him for 5 years and he is nothing but inspirational. Rest in Peace Joe.

Joe Beck had to be some kind of genius to come up with that Alto Guitar. I tried to play it once and could only scratch my head.
I think the idea was to be able to gig without hiring a bass player! ;^)
Thanks for the music, Joe.

Not only does JB play with better time & overall feel, but also with better tone ..
and it look's like he's playing a strat through a Roland JC at that ... Interesting!
