i dont think the touch functionality in the win7 was intintially made for everyday use (thats why on most of touch screen all in ones actually have keyboards and maybe even mice) its just lets say... if you just want to have some fun browsing through stuff... or it can be great if you have a multitouch BIG screen like 40" inches or so.... it would take a LONG time to move the cursor from one edge to other.

What if someone redesigned the ash tray, and made it difficult to put the cigarette out? Like if someone made an new ashtray that you have to use your feet to put the butt out.. that would be annoying much like this touch screen replacing the mouse. face it, your arms can't stay up like that sitting down for long periods of time.. heck just try putting your hands on the screen for 15 minutes. The touch functionality is a great idea, especially for tablet PC's and futuristic interactive desk displays. but in a desktop computer environment? it feels like a odd gimmick idea showing of what can be done.

In reality I don't think users are likely to thrust forward towards the screen in order to navigate instead of sitting in a relaxed position a bit away from the screen.

Every input device has its own use. The mouse is good for some things, the keyboard for others. If those were the only two useful input devices we wouldn't have joysticks. Look at how successful the Wii is and it uses a radically different form of user input. Touch screens are in malls and museums across the world. How can you say using your fingers is useless? Apple doesn't have a computer with a touch screen. HP was the first to make Touch screen computers and if you noticed, that's an HP computer they're using in this video, so no, they didn't steal anything. Microsoft also had touch screens before Apple did, they just never released them to the public.
