@Nacholibresworld I think just being greatful for the food in your belly is important and giving thanks to the countless sentient beings who worked together in order to provide you with it helps. Eating the food is meditation in itself as is the walk. I prefer vegetarian but I would not refuse anothers hospitality even if it was meat, that would be rude maybe. I possibly would walk further than 30km if the only thing on offer was boiled frogs, poor kermit...
@wambamsam hi Theravada Buddhist can eat everything but not meat that purposely kill for them. Mahayana Buddhist are encouraged to be vegetarian. Basically is up to individual. there is no rule or regulations on what we eat.
@wambamsam Not neccesarily. The earliest buddhists do eat meat. The monks are prohibited from killing so they cant eat meat from their killing, and they cant eat meat just prepared for them because that encourage killing. I know that the monks in Japan are allowed to drink wine. So it all depends on the local tradition.
Vegetarian life is virtuous. But being a vegetarian is not the most significant achievement to a true Buddhist. Ending of all suffering, is. For that supreme goal, Buddha's way is the Noble 8-fold path through meditation. In that quest, striving to be vegetarian, at times, is a hindrance. One can eat what he gets and use the time to meditate properly. Monks cannot decide on the menu. Gotta eat what you are fed. Meditating is the more virtuous thing. So, don't worry too much about food
If I may explain with an example: Say you are a virtuous person and do your meditation properly, keep the precepts,. Someone brings you your food everyday. That someone always brings boiled frogs. Now there is place some 30 km away where, if you go, will get a vegetarian meal. Now if you walk (assuming you have other means of transportation), will take you most of your day just to eat a vegetarian meal and come back. No time for meditation. Which will you wanna do? That is the answer.
Follow your bliss leads to the edge of the Universe behind the eyes. Love and be loved leads to heart ache and heart break, seeking proper love objects. Nothing and no one can love me back as much as I love. Peace is thankfulness for what is, what I have, as is. Thankfulness is everywhere, being thankful for what is, the way it is. I control thankfulness. I have peace in thankfulness and being thankful for all I have just the way it is. Follow your bliss, love and be loved, be thankful.
Tks for the Y tube. and the person who did this, we can now watch these sermons without coming to Perth. I like this monk very much. He talks sense. No bla bla.May he live long and may he be healthy.
I needed this today! As soon as i was done listening, my problems seemed much easier to overcome. I feel so much better about this new year and it hasn't even started yet!
I've been a "fan" of Ajahn Brahm and the BSWA for four years now and I am thankful, grateful and joyful for this video along with all the wonderful other video and streaming talks! In addition the on-line meditations. My New Year's resolution for 2-ha ha ha (!) is to finally send in my membership to BSWA, Yes, I am unemployed and my finances are small but my heart is big and I will find a way! Thank you.
Ajahn Brahm's description of the mediator fits my experience on my first 5 day meditation retreat... trying to meditate for 6 hours a day is VERY rough and I had to deal with a lot of negative thinking and aversion... funny how you can grow an aversion to something you previously enjoyed.
"I'm being here"... wow.. ya know I've been debating what I should say to everyone who says " hey whats up" or " how you doing"... that fits with a positive Buddhist practice.. " I'm being here" works great, although technically i could be lying when I say that if I'm truly not being mindful at the moment hah.
You guys are going to make therapist go out of business! These videos helped me waaaaay more in just one video than they did in months and saved me a ton of money! Thank you!!!
This is by far the best message I have ever listened to. I will be listening to this many, many times. Thank you so much-you hit me right squarely in the stomach!
Always so wonderful and insightful. This is a resource centre for me to collect useful ideas in my journey to be better person and also be a better role model for others. Thank you so much Mr. Monk.

Happy new year from Inowroclaw in Poland!
It is going to be a funny year, American war with Iran, and many other entertainments.
George Carlin would have loved it. But we still have Ajahn Brahm, to make us realize the obvious ;)
