  • Mummy, mummy, can I listen to the YogPod?

    Fuck off!

    But mummy...

  • People debate the stupidest stuff. Does it really matter the title? We are all fans of the same things. As for the covers, personally I like the US covers more. They look more fun

  • @tylerbg96 Personally I prefer the hardcover adult Bloomsbury editions because they look SO COOL!!!

  • *the first novel is called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone*

    American publishers: The what?

Jo Rowling: Honestly, don't you people read?

  • hahaha the girl in the greens all like:

"MEE! MEE! PICK ME! PICK ME! ME ME ME!"

  • This book and the others that followed helped me through tough times at school.

I was Bullied, isolated and felt alone. I remember going to the library and all I ever read was Harry Potter. those books helped me escape my life for a couple of hours and helped me get through the day.

Thank you J.K Rowling. Thank you for giving me a childhood!

    Chloe x

  • This book too holds a special place in my heart.

It was the first book I ever read all by myself.

  • Ohhhh my god- that front cover is soooo tacky :\ who designed these american covers?!

  • when she talks about the wands the subtitle is wrong: it is "yew" not "you"

  • to hear J.K. Rowling say Ollivanders was amazing, to hear her read a part of the book was amazing <3

  • Incredible author, always giving me much inspiration

  • Yes yes, it would have been nice if Miss Rowling didn't have to change the title of her novel from Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerer's Stone. It would have been nice if she had been able to give her real name instead of a pen name.

But the important thing is THE STORY IS STILL THE SAME.

Stop fighting like unruly children over little details that don't even matter.

  • The problem with the title is that, Philosopher's Stone isn't a concept that Rowling invented, it's a proof of her genius, of how much research did she do before writing the book, of how wide her knowledge is.

Sorcerer's Stone, on the other hand, is a proof of what the editors' intelligence level is, of what they think of us readers. Americans are considered dumber than the rest of the world, and it's becoming harder to disagree with them.

Little things like this, tell a lot about someone.

  • best books <3

  • it's michael jackson wanna be starting something playing in the background :D

  • that poor little blonde girl in the front wearing the green shirt has been raising her hand FOREVER and doesn't get called for like seven minutes! ...it was frustrating to watch. XD

  • @RandomCrap818 OMS IKR??? Exactly what I was thinking the whole time that poor little girl was raising her poor tired little arm. =/

  • Did y'all hear the mj music in the background?

  • Lol, J.K. Rowling feat. Miley Cyrus.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 *too

and no, it was a decision made by the publishers most likely, they thought that it'd appeal more to younger kids. so, no, we are not "to dumbass" to understand what the word Philosopher means.

  • She's really good at reading to others. I'm not good at all. Check it out. It's under Introduction of Surviving in a Negative World.

  • @chaminade812

The American book is called Sorcerers stone, the British one is called Philosophers stone. However, due to I believe what was a legal issue, Christopher Columbus (The Film's director) could only get the title of the American book.

  • Such a great video of a great woman reading a great book, with a terrible song playing in the background...why must Miley ruin everything.

  • PARTY IN THE USA IS PLAYING

  • the psge j.k's reading is page 82 !

  • ha ha she is Scottish :DD

  • This debate over the title is ridiculous, none of us had a say in the naming of this book. These books are meant to be enjoyed, so stop having useless debates and calling whole countries stupid or ignorant. @bphussar Yeah, okay fine you are entitled to your own opinion but let's be clear, JK came up with the title so really you are calling her stupid, not the UK.

  • I'm from America, but I despise the name "Sorcerer's Stone". I just wish they kept it as "Philosopher's Stone".

  • @uglyfudge y do u vote for philosopher i like sorcerers stone!!

  • @uglyfudge i thought it was still called the philosopher's stone?

  • I love Harry Potter! Thank you J.K Rowling<3

  • "It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well." ~J.K. Rowling

    What an accurate self-description JK!

  • @laurkar243 great quote

  • lol

  • I never liked the US covers...

  • why are people still butthurt about the title change? let it go and move on. it still made billions. bitches attacking americans as a whole.. smh. MOVE THE FUCK ON!

  • i took my book i read the chapter while jo was speaking

  • @Privatecomedy I did that too! Haha c:

  • Re-realse the films! if they were 15 hours long i would watch it no problem.

  • PHILOSOPHER!! PHILOSOPHER, PHILOSOPHER, PHILOSOPHER!!!!! God damn it.

  • those kids just got their Harry cherry popped. by the CREATOR, nonetheless.

  • All you people fighting about the title of the book are stupid! Who cares if the U.S. changed the title to "Sorcerer's Stone". Just forget about it! Don't waste your time fighting eachother on youtube, and do something more usefull. That goes for EVERYONE.

  • @monkeybass12 No kidding!

  • @funnyduck5445 I don't think you were ever involved in this. Wait a second... Hold on.. Ah, yes, YOU WERN'T!!! So you shut up, stop trying to be a badass by swearing and get a life out of staring at a screen all day trying to find a comment that you can abuse. Ok? Good boy. maybe I will fetch you a lollypop.

  • Well if they had to cut it then why did they cut the last book hell make it 15 hours id still watch it

  • @Rocker62121 well you would but some lazy little impatient annoying kids wont!!!!

  • Harry Potter and the PHILOSOPHERS Stone. Not the Sorcerer's Stone.

  • ... And surely that spirit of enquiry is something the Harry Potter books encourage! I think the American publishers did the children of the U.S.A a disservice in changing it. Not least because it gives the (almost certainly unfounded) impression of a nation of people too stupid to be able to find out what The Philosopher's Stone actually was. I'm a little sad that J. K. Rowling didn't push for the original title, but I expect it came at a point in her career where she didn't feel able to do so.

  • I think the change from Philosopher's Stone to Sorcerer's Stone is regrettable since the original title refers to the alchemical Philosopher's Stone which is mentioned in English alone arguably as early as the 13th century! So the Philosopher's Stone was the already established name of the object to which J. K. Rowling was referring. I think it's a shame to have changed it - if a child didn't know what it was, leaving it as Philosopher's would have given him the opportunity to go and look it up!

  • @QG3 Americans will do everything to stop kids from learning diffrent words and do anything to make them stupid and fat!

  • love her she is amazing she gave kids and grown ups something amazing<3 and people please stop fighting over the name of the book we can both love the book no matter if its the american version or the uk version there both great.

  • @DrWizardMan I think people would be able to tell the difference between a look-a-like and the real JK Rowling.... and if she died people would make a HUGE deal out of it, specially the media.. so yeah

  • just back to the video: i happen to prefer the books to the movies a lot, and it was nice to hear her read a bit of it.

  • That's how she pronounced it. So it's the right way because she wrote the books. Or maybe it's because of her accent, she's Scottish not English.

  • @Moviesobsessed97 She's English - she was born in Gloucestershire. She just lives in Scotland.

  • she pronounces Rubeus wrong. Or is that the right way???

  • @CornyTelecaster49 um how could she pronounce her own character's name wrong?

  • @CornyTelecaster49 The name is from a Latin adjective which means 'red' or 'ruddy'. She pronounces is correctly, which isn't surprising since she studied Classics and French. :)

  • @CornyTelecaster49 She wrote the books. She created the characters, so she pronounces everything right.

  • @VailaIsMe yea i nkow, but i got suprised cos ive always been saying RUBY-YUS. this is the first time i ever heard anyone pronounce it the diffrent way. but her being the maker of it i guess thats the right way :)

  • she is so intelligent, can't stop reading...

  • So, that's how you pronounce 'Rubeus'.

  • twilight cant even be compared to harry potter

  • 15 hour Harry Potter movies.. I could deal with that ^^

  • I feel so bad for the lady doing the sign-language...

  • why sorcerrers stone? its philostophers stone damn it!!!!

  • @JurassicParkFan8 You are actually wrong.. The publishing company wanted it to be called Sorcerer because Philospher was to of a complex word for younger kids to understand..

  • @bphussar I just looked on your acount and guess what?... AMERICAN! The Philosophers Stone came out, like, a year after it did in the UK and ONLY you Americans wanted to change it. Kids here knew what it meant because we actually have an education...

  • @JurassicParkFan8 Hunny. UK is just about as stupid as they can get. Sorcerer's Stone is a little bit more appealing than philosphers. So please shut the fuck up and have a really nice day. :)

  • @bphussar Ahahahaha you spelt honey wrong. Also Your just saying that to protect American rights or whatever and I respect that. But Philosophers Stone came out first and then America was originally Philosophers stone too, but then they changed it to Sorcerers.

  • Comment removed

  • @bphussar

Pretty bad when you get your spellings wrong, and you call another country a "dumbass".

  • @TheCGIMaster I didn't call another country a dumb ass. I called them stupid. It's a little more appropriate.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 lol its funny and sad at the same time

  • @JurassicParkFan8 I don't think not knowing a word makes someone a dumbass. Many Americans wouldn't have known the word because no one in the US uses it that way. How do you know a word if you've never had it defined? Are you implying that British children are born knowing what philosopher means? I'm quite sure they had to be taught the word, or else they heard it used in conversation and inferred its definition. Please don't assume stereotypes. That's exactly what Harry Potter is against.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 I'm american and its quite easy to understand what Philosopher means

  • @singerhp19 yeah well stupid publishers thought that kids will be confused, instead of making them want to learn new words.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 ...Says the person who doesn't seem to know the difference between "too" and "to"...LOL

  • @Snikapants I'm in the top sets for everything at our school, or Academy. Thats what it will be in September. Go learn in a ditch and eat earthworms.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 Philosopher has a different meaning in America. Its a class in college (or as you say University in B.A) or hobby people do that requires thinking deeply of life in general and our whereabouts. British, American, Canadian and Australian English is not all the same. It doesn't make Americans "dumbass."

  • @beanybudd the title of the book implies it's about the Alchemical Philosopher's Stone that Nicholas Flammel created to be immortal. they thought the word 'philosopher' wouldn't attract the kids so they chose something more 'magical -_-'. also, How awesome would it be to have J.K. do the HP audio books? *sighsdreamily* i love her voice...

  • @beanybudd You could still have kept the title the same though. You know, anyone who mails me back, I'm gonna block them.

  • @beanybudd so what if theres no "philosopher" in american!!! The book is called Philosopher`s stone and they shoud have called it that way!!! Sorcerrers stone sounds dumb!!!!

  • @CornyTelecaster49 What was done was done. Can't do much about it now. I don't understand why it's such a dramatically important debate..

  • @beanybudd actually that would be Philosophy by the way not Philosopher and the idea of thinking deeply of life in general can also be associated to the alchemist's philosopher's stone as so it was supposed to grant eternal life and turn lead into gold it was also said to grant the answers to the universe and life in general.

  • @JurassicParkFan8 Philosopher means different in america.

  • @sinserto Thats the real name dick head

  • @markprobyn11 so what are you gonna do about it? bitch some more?

  • @JurassicParkFan8 I'm American and I know what it means, but no one else seems to. LOL!

  • @JurassicParkFan8 ...this coming from the person who said "to dumbass".

  • @JurassicParkFan8 LMFAOOOOOOO xD omg!! that comment made me laugh so hard! it's true :D

  • @lovelymeno- Is it true? Amazing! Never heard of someone who's met almost 350 million people to make a statement like that. But I guess we're all exactly the same. Omg, so funny!

    Fuck you.

  • @soyuncatacol bitch, talk to the one who insulted your ass not me.

  • @lovelymeno- You insulted me by saying it was true and I'll talk to whomever I want, thanks.

  • @soyuncatacol alright then!... stay mad.LOL xD

  • @JurassicParkFan8 Xenophobic asshole is xenophobic.

  • @DrWizardMan I heard about that too. The look-a-like happens to be my sister. She's doing a wonderful job, I must say.

  • @DrWizardMan LIAR

  • Ok she is my inspiration and great writer and all that but is it just me cause I think she reads it too fast and dosen't really put any big emotions in it like when olivander is wondering if he should give harry that wand she just reads it blank !! STILL LOVE HER THOUGH <3 :)

  • pftt, who hasn't read Harry Potter?

  • @uropenbook me

  • @uropenbook Little kids who are just discovering the book and a large portion of the audience there are young children.

  • @uropenbook

Ah, I apologize, I just thought you were trolling, sorry lol.

  • She's such an inspiration. JKR is my hero and she always will be.

  • I hate when people say "Harry Potter was a huge part of my childhood." Harry Potter is a huge part of my childhood, adolescent years, and future adulthood!

  • @LucyMatexO I believe it's because us Americans thought "philosopher" would be interpreted differently, but I don't get it. I call it philosopher's stone still. Aren't both philosophers and sorcerers smart?

  • First,I'd just like to say Jk Rowling is the best author ever.PERIOD!

& second, did anyone else hear Party in the USA playing in the back?

  • yes, i hear

  • This video just gives us another reason to love her.She was really getting into it, and I love how she did Hagrid's voice. I also liked how she treated them like they were adults, not little kids. That's probably because my pet-peeve is being treated like a five year old... but a great reading anyway!

  • Book readers, check this amazing website: LoveAHappyEnding (dot) com

  • What. A. Legend.

  • i love how she acts as though they don't know what's going on, but the truth is, even if they haven't read it, they knew what's going on... it is harry potter

  • Why do Americans call it 'Sorcerer's'? I don't understand. Is 'Philosopher's' just like when we say 'rubbish' instead of 'trash'?

  • @LucyMatexO The American copies are different from the European. I guess, our speaking method are, too.

  • the girl in the green is about to go NUTS!!!

  • Harry Potter..... and the Goblet of spoilt overpaid teenage English Shits !

  • For the love of God, pleeeeease pick the kid in green! >_< 2 More questions, finally.

  • @sandrsofias AH ha ha! I was thinking the same thing!

  • @DrWizardMan I'm sorry for your friend. Fortunately, this JK Rowling was born in 1965 and is alive and well. Long live JK Rowling!

  • @DrWizardMan Fuck you, that actually scared me!

  • why the kids didn't ask important questions like How exactly are Horcruxes made? Did Lord Voldemort ever had sex? What happened to Voldemort's corpse? How the wizarding world is affected by a nuclear disaster? If magic is capable by genetics, is it possible for muggles to genetically create a wizard? Do you like Twilight?

  • @CharlsEC because those are ridiculous, retarded, unrelevant questions

  • @cowsgorawr1431 *irrelevant.

  • @DrWizardMan what the hell are you talking about?

  • I typed in 'zyzz' and this is what came up! xD

  • @bayleee77 Weird. It should have been Fablehaven that came up.

  • Comment removed

  • is it just me, or is j.k. rowling hot?

  • She's a total piece of ass

  • ... The amount of times I have read the harry potter books now its insane to realise that is how you pronounce rubeus

  • ITS THE FUCKING PHILOSOPHERS STONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chloerheon Chill out, in america they call it sorcerer's, they CANT call it philosophers because 'philosopher' has a different meaning in america. Why are you so bothered?

  • @hello10577 Why do Americans use the bullshit Imperial system? Same story. You like to do EVERYTHING different, & automatically think it's better. Here's news: It is not better, at all.

  • @hardstyle905 Erm, I'm not American, I'm British. But I'm just saying, why does it bother you. It's good that Americans do things their way, because that makes different countries different!

  • @hello10577 No, it just makes things more costly and less effective. Imagine if every country in Europe used a different (metric) system... for your car, for lengths, for everything.

  • @hardstyle905 bloody hell, im talking about the name of a book.

  • @chloerheon its different in american. Why are you freaking out??

  • 1 Minute into the video I started hearing "Party in the USA" in the background.

  • nice, mine is nine inches as well, quite flexible

  • @Taliemistle Jk Rowling pronounced it differently to how the films pronounce Rubeus name. Even i pronounced Rubeus name in the film version as i watched Harry Potter films 1 and 2 before reading her books. Now watching her read and hearing how she pronounce his name, i will pronouced Rubeus how she says it, after all it is her creation :))

  • @TheCrocker11 um...no

  • That was magic :)

  • such a great series.

  • This is so adorable - especially when she talks to the little boy at 11 minutes ^_^ It makes me feel good that even the younger generations are reading this book (: And the girl after him is BRILLIANT xDDD

    I LOVE JKR SO MUCH!!

  • she is souch a great writer and reader as well

  • she's just adorable *-*

  • So good! But Miley Cyrus 'party in the usa' playing in the background kinda ruins it... :P

  • @KAPOWIEEE my two favourite things in the world, harry potter and miley cyrus combined. what a wondrous video!

  • This gave me goosbumps...I can't believe they have the audacity to tell JK Rowling that she has to leave so somebody can read GREEN EGGS AND HAM

  • @JOSHMUDGETT

In all fairness, it is the better book, with better prose.

  • yay dumbledore is my fav also :3

  • soon as she started reading i snatched my book to read along love Harry Potter amazing readding jk

  • wow she reads so wow

  • when she started reading i paused the video and grabbed my copy and read along

  • @jamerikan5689 Nuuuuuuurd

  • this is wonderful :)

  • Do mention the T word .

  • Good - better - Jo Rowling <3

  • 7 people prefer Cedric sparkly.

  • green eggs and ham is much better!!!!!!! jk :D

  • the best book series in all of book series! (twilight does not compete)

  • @888tho Fuck OFF with your Twilight shit. No one even wants to hear about it. On every damn HP video some idiot has to mention it. DAMN

  • @hardstyle905 Well, I think they do cause it is the most liked comment on this page!! Also, a Obama picture as your page picture that retard can't run a country!!

  • i here party in the usa forsome odd reason in the background!

  • i wonderd what she's been up to

  • COOL!!!))

  • J. K. Rowling=Goddess :) thank you, very much, for your work ;)

  • FUTURE POTTER BOOKS YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • goodness, i love her so much. and she's such a fantastic story-teller...it's truely an underrated skill.

  • haha about ten minutes in I totally noticed Michael Jackson's music was on in the background (sounds like "Wanna be Startin' Something"). Anyways, always wonderful hearing Rowling's creations through her own mouth.

  • she rocks! love her books
