I like the color, display, and most of all the size of this radio. It would be perfect for my vehicle since I don't have much room.. but it's a shame they don't have make one like this with side bands.
Hi I have a question, if I wanted to use a Cobra 19 like a base station, I'm trying to figure out how to power it. Does it have a cigarette lighter plug or does it get hooked up somewhere else?
@racedriver52 Generally people use a power supply to use them indoors; Astron, Tripp Lite, and other such companies make them. Some of them have Cig. Lighter Plugs built in, others have poles to hook the power wires to.
It's not a very bad CB radio but it's an entry level set. I tried it in the lab. and got stisfactory results! Used a 50ohm dummy load and measured 6.4W! ...well, they say it's 4W in FM, but this is just better for me. Some say the squelch is crap, well, if you run it in a car, you should look after the source of your noise. Here's my case: I live next to a substation, ant there are some 110kV powerlines hanging at 40m from my QTH(location), and that doesn't interfere with my set.
This radio is crap. Everything works OK except for the squelch which pops repeatedly when anything other than a strong signal comes in. A little interference sends it popping away and it is extremely annoying. This has been the same on all Cobra DX IV radios I've run into. The best small chassis radio I can recommend in this price range is the Uniden Pro 520XL which has much better noise filtering and sounds awesome with the stock microphone. It's even smaller!
@icecream907 The screen lights up orange. This radio is junk tho, I would recommend the Uniden Pro 520XL which is smaller and performs better overall.
when are ppl gonna learn that the rf gain is used to adjust the receiver sensitivity thus being able to reduce adjacent channel interference. this is wot they mean in the hand books..its just wrote wong...there is no way that by reducing a strong signal on a channel..weaker singals will be heard better on that same channel..impossible...learn to use the rf gain properly!! No more bleed over :)
Here's a quote taken from your website "When you have your radio "peaked and tuned", we adjust your radio for superior performance over the standard stock factory settings. A number of modifications are made with the end result being an approximate 50% increase in transmission power and an approximate 35% increase in reception performance."
That means after that tune, the power of the cb radio will be 6 watts. Other tunners claims that his tunned radios can go 20 or more watts after tunned. What's your opinion about that? They're lying or a CB can't go up more 20 watts?
Please do the trucking industry a favor. If you have one of these put it under your trailer tire and drive away. This is by far the worst CB radio, ever laid on the public. the tx is weak, and receive noise filter just cuts out all sound, including people talking, Save an extra 40-50 bucks, and get a Cobra 29 LTD, or a Galaxy 959
im pissed i hooked it up turned it on the wires caught fire wtf im takin it back tommorow it must have been faulty i hooked it up right and everything

And I can't imagine a bigger RF noise source than a substation.
I use a l/2 dipole (300ohm with a 300/50ohm balun) which is placed 15m high. Tuned the antenna to a 1,2 SWR, and I've talked 132km with it!
TUNE the antenna with a SWR meter, filter the DC power, and the antenna if necesary and this guy must work properly.
