He claimed Syd continued to play guitar up unto the last year of his life. I'd love to be a bug on the wall with a recorder while that was going on!

Syd Barret is a musical GENIUS! I feel it in my emotional response to this song, and my personal experience playing music for 20 years. Its very interesting that these well educated men (cambridge) can have such way out freaky music.

The LSD would have contributed to their creative flair but they were ahead of their time the lyrics and music are in a plane of their own.

Regarding 'Piper', I think it is, like 'Pepper' and uneven album, with fantastic tracks(Barrett) mixed in with those less so (tracks5 and 6 ~ in my own opinion). But it also doesn't include the great '67 singles (Beatles policy), recorded at the same time, which are complementary to the album. What other album gives us lessons in astronomy, I Ching, thermodynamics, and an instrumental interpretation of space travel mixed in with fairy stories, whimsy and madness.
