  • Music evolves, just like everything else. Can you imagine this type of music evolving into something else, had Syd Barret kept leading the band?

He was a true musical prodigy with his own style and musical perception. It's too bad we never got too see how far he would have taken that=/

  • FUCKING PINK FLOYD HOW DOES IT WORK

  • VOIVOD

  • Genius

  • This video isn't bad, but it sounds much more powerful off of the album. Can't put words to it.

  • No joke i have an acid tab on my tongue right now and i'm waiting for it to kick in so I can hear this song the way it's supposed to be heard

  • @KIDAmnesiacBends lol holy shit so how was it?

  • @REDtwotwotwo

i love early pink floyd on acid....interstellar overdrive, this, lucifer sam and matilda mother were my favorites

  • Syd was a genius, but as stated in "SOYCD", he reached for the secret too soon...

  • @augerrat I think he left too soon. Of course, he might not have been able to help it...We heard too little of his great talent. I recently saw a post by one of his neighbours. He claimed Syd continued to play guitar up unto the last year of his life. I'd love to be a bug on the wall with a recorder while that was going on!

  • @chev6art Syd put out a lot of solo stuff after he left Pink Floyd. It's his own thing, and I don't care for it. He was reaching his full potential with Wright, Waters, and Mason.

  • @easymelon2187 I actually agree with you. The best of Syd is embodied in "Piper at the Gates of Dawn." Nevertheless, there are some gems from his solo career, like "Late Night," "Here I Go," and "Bob Dylan Blues" are tops in my book. So sad his career in music was brief.

  • ty for the informative article.

  • Listen to Voivod's cover of this song. Ridiculous. In a good way though.

  • This is a great track and ya don't need the drugs. :-)

  • lol i guess mgmt just got me into pink floyd.

  • 1:43 , Anyone else notace the similartiy to the cover the the foo fighters wasting light in that picture?

  • I guess Syd looked at a bowl of fruit while on the acid to get the idea of this song. There probably was more than one Granny Smith apple in that bowl. Each fruit was a planet or a star in his mind.

  • I've never did LSD but if I did I would play this song and Interstellar Overdrive

  • I hate when people say that one great band is so much better than another great band and the other sucks. Why can't we all just enjoy good music and forget about comparing?

  • @Moonrisepower sooo true

  • @yofera50 Thanks! I'm glad you agree!

  • Beautifully detailed background posted here. Thank you.

Also in Nick Mason's Inside Out: A personal history. In photograph above showing Syd being filmed at Alexandra Palace "14-hour Technicolor Event," Nick writes that Syd had his guitar strapped on but didn't play. In picture he looks like he's playing though, even though he's characteristically turned away from the audience.

ATTENTION SYD BARRETT FANS: UNRELEASED SYD/EARLY FLOYD TO BE RELEASED SEPT 11 OR 12, 2011.

  • psychedelic paradise!!!

  • This song still blows me away...Syd was SO ahead of his time. We really miss him. Thanks for posting.

  • this song is awsome

  • Fuck off, Pink Floyd OWNS beatles, in each and every way possible. Your choice, they astronomical psychedelic sounds of Floyd or jingly jangly christmas shit from the beatles. xD

  • @DanielJoseDiego

If you think that all The Beatles did was jingly jangly christmas shit, you're sorely mistaken.

  • @degree7 Yap, you're right, I was a being a twat, just said that in a moment of anger towards a Beatles fan hating on the Floyd. :(

  • @DanielJoseDiego

Well I guess the Beatles fan was the real twat then.

  • @DanielJoseDiego

Dude, its okay, youre just depressed. One day your life will get better and you will realize that the Beatles made better music.

  • @npagano05 The only time I get depressed is when I listen to gawd awful "while my guitar gently weeps" crap music. That's why I'll stick to Floyd better, Far out astronomical sounds music not jingly jangly monotonous Christmas bells music of the beatles. :D

  • @DanielJoseDiego

I'll give you that one, i dont like that song that much either. That was a george harrison song. but i liked most of mccartneys songs and just about all of lennons. and i should have taken my comment back cuz i saw a couple comments later you called yourself a twat for saying that about the beatles, so it's all good. My only beef with floyd is that, I already know i'm going to die, the world is gonna end, etc. etc. so i'd rather not dwell on it and just listen to fun music.

  • Great song.."relics" is the best Pink compilation available.

  • "Stairway scare Dan Dare, who's there?"

    Favorite part of the song

  • almost as amazing as Sgt Pepper

  • the best thing barrett's floyd ever did

  • You guys are my best friends, even though you never talk to me... so what's up? how's it going? how's life?

  • @davidbowierocksilove purty good.

  • @somebodysvids no. sorry. you're not my friend. mommy taught me best not to talk to strangers.

  • gene face first that evil man ladis in waiting horn bandit run run havokie await turn your back on whaTS RIGHT

  • LIME AND LIMPID

  • SILLY MOBY DICK

  • i was on atari back then computer random floppy disk evil scrap the s@$^t out my knuckle's outlaw ace face

  • Rest in Peace Syd Barrett!

    6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006

Today marks the passing of Syd Barrett, who died on this day in 2007.

  • @PinkFloydGuitarist

    You said "6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006"

Now you say he died in 2007?

    ???

  • @JCauI

Oh wow, sorry about the typo.. :\

  • Syd Barret is a musical GENIUS! I feel it in my emotional response to this song, and my personal experience playing music for 20 years. For the time this song came out, NOTHING anywhere remote to this style of playing was around. And when I mean "style of playing", I mean the ENTIRE ALBUM. The Album SHOCKED ME when I first heard it. It's a priceless jem in my life.

  • @cosmicforums thats. fucking. awesome. thats why i love pink floyd, and im only 16. I can just feel how ahead of its time the music is, from segments within shine on you crazy diamond to their first pieces, such as this and interstellar overdrive... my dad apparently still has all of the albums on cassette, and I wish i was as lucky as he was to have lived in their time...

  • The video compilation "UFO Disclosure A Global Deception Conspiracy " ON

  • saw them open with this at Ga Tech in Atlanta in the 80's....mind blowing!!!!

  • 1:16 fucking liftoff

  • I think that "Barrett" Floyd is better than the later Floyd, but it's entirely unfair to claim that the later Floyd wasn't the best band in the 1970s.

  • happy 4/20

  • :16 Two psychics shot down... :)

  • :16 Two psychics shot down... :)

  • That last picture shows a heavy contrast!!

  • 20 people thing thumps down its download button.

  • whoa i felt like i was flying

  • enough with the dislike comments... who cares stfu and listen to music

  • @ichopaugud amen

  • @ssminopoopy i hate it but you cant stop it. telling people to shut up is the best anyone can do but there are so many lame trendy fucks out there putting the same "dislike" or "lady bieber" comments everywhere.

  • @ichopaugud Amen brother.

  • 20 pour people are deaf...

  • listen to that AWESOME sound of the incomparable BINSON ECHOREC and Syd sliding his Zippo lighter down th strings.I'm absolutely speechless!!

  • Doesn't anyone know that Pink Floyd was cooler than shiite with Syd Barrett?

  • Way to ahead of its time, i would give up all music from the 80's till now and just have 60' and 70's and im only 29.

  • Syd <3

  • Its very interesting that these well educated men (cambridge) can have such way out freaky music.

The LSD would have contributed to their creative flair but they were ahead of their time the lyrics and music are in a plane of their own.

Its no surprise they were inducted in the hall of fame, what a shame Roger Waters was so hard to work with because Dark side of the moon and The Wall are two of the best albums of all time nad the rift with Gilmour deprived us of more brilliance

  • Try driving while listening to this and interstellar overdrive.

  • Amazing guitar...

  • I love how the letters of the video information is fuzzy at the bottom 0_0

  • Thumbs up if your high anyways

  • awesome...simple amazing!

  • uy que flash....

  • I wonder what the opening "radio" words are. Sounds like at one point I hear "a peachy fuzz from Pluto"...and at another , a rather anachronistic "two psychics shooting at Amtrak"...pretty weird!

  • @raakone i read it is peter jenner just speaking names of planets

  • @MoveOverCasanova

hes speaking the names of the stars

  • @infanate0 that is just what I said....-- ??

  • @MoveOverCasanova

planets and stars are not the same thing, silly.

  • @infanate0 oh smartie, thank you so much for schooling the big news - definitely worth posting

  • @MoveOverCasanova

  • @megafade69 No shit!? the coolest comment i've seen for a while

I recently went to a Floyd gig (an international tribute band) and they fuckin nailed this song to the point i'm now obsessed with it.

"floating down the sound resounds around the icy waters underground"

  • History begins here... I don't mean PF History, I know they do some good songs before... I just mean Human History... Syd/Roger/Dave/Rick/Nick have deeply changed my outlook on things...

  • LEGALIZE ACID

    :)

  • my friend, floydfanmega remembers when he went to a pink floyd concert and there was a freekin floatin pig with red eyes!

  • Jupiter and Saturn, Oberon, Miranda and Titania, Neptune, Titan, Stars can frighten! Syd in the groove and Sir Pat on the telly with the Sky At Night ~ what more could the budding young astronomer in '67 need

  • they just dont make music like this anymore :|

Pink Floyd was/is the best band!

  • There really is no reason for a debate Syd Barrett was Pink Floyd!

  • thumbs up to legalize pot

  • @kingoftroy05 i don't smoke, but i think it should be legal

  • lol, you don't have to like the police and david bowie to love pink floyd, I love pink floyd and my favorite bands are megadeth metallica slayer anthrax ect but that dosn't mean we can't all chill with joint and some floyd

  • whoa i felt like i was flying listening to this

  • The only times Pete Townsend ever missed a Who show were two Pink Floyd Shows. I believe Syd Barret was in the band the first time and for the second time it was The Wall. That's saying a lot when the man who popularized rock operas misses his own band's show to see The Wall.

  • @megafaded69 Certainly does say alot, I beleive Petes quote was "Syd was pretty fucked up by the time I saw him". I've heard that was the show where he took a camping cooker onstage and fried an egg and ate it. Genius!!

  • I love this song,

One of my favorites of this Album

    Es todo un viaje...

  • lyrics please i need to learn this for choir

  • Pulse version is incredible!!

  • anything that blows up really quick and is instantly popular dies earlier: glam, emo, etc anyways this is the real deal

  • This is the best early Floyd track in my view...Syd Barrett's guitar solo is realy "out there"...unique and original.

Those who like this should check out Gilmore's version, "Live at Ghadankz"...which is faithfull to the original but really kicks the adrenalin button.

  • maybe pink floyd's best song... amazinggggggggggggg

  • The very first.

  • 19 people are retarded as fuck, no band nowdays can compare to this marvelous, ultra groovy music, and that guitar, only syd fucking keith barret could create a thunderous sound like that!!!!

  • Dude...it's physically impossible to win an argument about opinion, so...why waste your time and have it?

  • 19 people are fucking pieces of old shit.

  • rip Rodger...many love you and many tear up when they here your fantastic music that still opens our minds and makes us see things that we never would see... God Bless you SYD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ballsofun rip Roger?

  • The opening vocal is then manager Peter Jenner reading the names of stars through a megaphone. Chord progression is E, E-flat, G, A

  • Excellent song, and spawned some great covers in later years too.

  • 3:44 MSN-popup

  • BLESS YOUR BLEEDING HEART SYD! SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIMOND!

  • @j1495bmx it's really much more

  • Sorry I meant ALPHA CENTAURI

  • Actually, the name is Astronomy Domine'. pronounced doe ma nay. A domine' is a teacher. So this a teacher, teaching a class about astronomy.

  • Pink Floyd discography:

    Full discography from hotfile(dot)com:

    hotfile(dot)com/list/998266/b8d7e5d

  • fantastic song i am currently looking at thousands of hubble images with this tune on.

  • the beginning was trippy i liked it but the rest...meh

  • Regarding 'Piper', I think it is, like 'Pepper' and uneven album, with fantastic tracks(Barrett) mixed in with those less so (tracks5 and 6 ~ in my own opinion). But it also doesn't include the great '67 singles (Beatles policy), recorded at the same time, which are complementary to the album. What other album gives us lessons in astronomy, I Ching, thermodynamics, and an instrumental interpretation of space travel mixed in with fairy stories, whimsy and madness.

  • ooohh yeaaaa

  • Back then when they were actually a good band (with Syd Barrett), after that is nothing more than overrated music with ANNOYING vocals

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre No, get out.

  • Justin Bieber should cover this, he would be great !

  • @LesFillesduFeu7 ahahah well done

  • @LesFillesduFeu7 You should be employed by an embassy or something, your provocative skills are impossible.

  • @LesFillesduFeu7 Get fucked. By Bieber.

  • @LesFillesduFeu7 Just....no.

  • is my idea or the image off the screen?

  • Moraisito - The best...

  • Wtf is Slipknot?

    Comparing Pink Floyd to "Slipknot"

Is like comparing Gold to S-H-I-T.

  • @WackyWadslow

If Spliknot is as good as Pink Floyd, then you can become millionaire by selling your feacies.

  • @AwesomeCoasters McDonald's has made billions hasn't it? Not that I'm agreeing about slipshit, but...

  • @AwesomeCoasters

Well I'm pretty sure that the members of Pink Floyd would make millions if they started selling their faeces tomorrow.

  • @MrJanJC

    XD

  • @AwesomeCoasters You can in some countries...
