Featurng Chaz Finster as Opus... Wow... I think I died a little inside. Not because I hate the actor... I just imagine him with a higher-pitched voice.
Great vocal work, Opus's voice sounds perfect. And Bill is wonderful with physical humor.
"I might as well be a dung beetle! Or a fly-infested, work-infused, molded, mildewed SCRAP OF ROTTEN BANANA! Or a network executive...." XD
"Now I have no need for a sidekick sir, but still he'd like to be my best buddy. Of course stinkbugs might like to dance the watusi in my shorts but you gotta draw the line somewhere...." Poor guy about the stinkbugs, but still that was an amusing line. XD
OMG!!! IM soo happy I found this, me and my family would watch it EVERY christmas but sadly we lost the VHS. :( I havent seen this since I was 6. I'm so exicted
I love this show. My family and I watch it every Christmas. My sister looked everywhere for it on DVD a couple of years ago and finally ended up with a better quality VHS. This is awesome :)
I watched this every year on a vhs copy from tv. Bought it as soon as dvd was available. Lovely film, especially for Christmas season. Good idea to keep the video posted here as an introduction for those unfamiliar with it.
Watched this once when I was fourteen. Couldnt find it againt till recently (why they never show this is beyond me, along with The Far Side halloween special they are the two most underrated holiday specials)
I FINALLY FUCKING FOUND IT!!! i watched this as a kid one christmas and havent seen it since. just saw the opus comic collection in forbidden planet and now ive found this again after so many years!!!!
I saw this the one and only time it aired! what i dont get is why the heck is Opus so obsessed with wings? i mean there were a few old strips mentioning this but i dont remember it ever being a huge issue with him. oh well its still a great upload!
This was such a classic Christmas special! I can't believe it has only been on TV one time. I think I remember reading that Berkeley Breathed doesn't care for it either!?!?!?!? A true classic. I waited a long time to see Bill the Cat animated - and they met and exceeded my expectations with him! Order the DVD!
Thank you for uploading this movie. I've been looking for this movie for the past 13yrs. My Aunt, my God bless her soul, recorded this for me along with the older Disney cartoons and I've been looking from them all over youtube. Made me tear a bit but thank you so much!
i haven't watched this in YEARS. i love bill and opus and remember growing up with a vhs taped-from-tv version with all the terrible commercials. more than a few were for Super nintendo NES. haha. good upload.
I wonder why Berkley Breathed disliked this adaptation? HE was the one who wrote it and HE was the executive producer, which means everything must go by what he wants!
You've made my day, poster! Thank you so much! I saw this on TV when I was in 2nd grade and have always remembered but only recently found out the name of it. I was going to rent it on Netflix but suddenly it went from "Available now" to "Short wait"...I was so sad because I wanted to watch it this year (before Christmas). THANK YOU! :) :) :)
Just to let you all know, this has been released to dvd, over a year ago. I left it up because so many people watch it. You're better off ordering the dvd online, It's still hard to find in the stores even at Christmas.
Good old Bloom County. It's one of my favorite strips. I didn't know that they actually did an animated Christmas special with them in it. It's pretty good. Very Breathed-like humor.

AWSOME! I used to have this on tape when i was a kid, i used to love this special. I lost the tape and havent seen it in over 10 years and still remember almost the whole thing.
I'm almost sure that, regarding Breathed's contest regarding Opus, Opus is going to the moon. The clues were in the most recent comics. Check out the archived comics, and you'll see that Opus is carrying a copy of Goodnight, Moon with him. Also, in the dog pound, there is a sketch on the wall of a cow jumping over the moon
I don't like opus's voice- I always had it in my mind he sounded like woody Harrelson.(!) Antimation is great though. Bums me out that this sunday's OPUS will probably be the last we never see/hear of him. Bloom county was the ONLY good thing that came out of the 80's, as far as I am concerned...
Very true CGold113. I LOVE both strips! For some reason I identified with Opus's outlook on life. And like the Far side & Calvin & Hobbes, I MISS THEM TERRIBLY. I myself feel that Opus will end up in the eternal danilion (sic), field. I hope the same for me & you!
Opus's voice DEFINETLY does not fit. He sounds too doughy. I always thought he had sort of a matter of fact voice, considering his role in the comics.
Somehow Opus's voice just dosen't fit his animation... or maybe I just imagined something different from all the years reading Bloom County books. BTW, I thought Bill D. Cat's brain was swapped with Donald Trump's? Or was it reversed? God I don't remember; the strip ran like a soap opera in many respects anyway :)
I never write this, but this DVD is so damn adorable! I could only write that about a Bloom County production. This was sweet without being sappy and soppy, like most Christmas fare. Thank you for posting! Bill the Cat is my idol. He's way more talented than Brittany.

Sorry, I don't remember that one. To tell you the truth, I found this laser disc on ebay a few years ago. Also, there are quite a few places on line you can search for, many people have converted hard to find video tapes & laserdiscs to dvd. Try searching for "holly & ivy dvd" or dvd-r, you may be surprised.

YOU are my freaking hero. I remember this from when I was really little and I could NOT remember the name of it but I LOVE YOU for this! This was one of my favorite movies!
I had it on video tape, they only aired it once. The tape was not a good copy, & I played it so much it just wasn't watchable anymore. Somehow I found out it was put out on Laserdisc briefly & was able to get a copy of it. So this copy here is actually the dvd I made from the ld.
Featurng Chaz Finster as Opus... Wow... I think I died a little inside. Not because I hate the actor... I just imagine him with a higher-pitched voice.

YOU are my freaking hero. I remember this from when I was really little and I could NOT remember the name of it but I LOVE YOU for this! This was one of my favorite movies!

Thank you, & Merry Christmas
I had it on video tape, they only aired it once. The tape was not a good copy, & I played it so much it just wasn't watchable anymore. Somehow I found out it was put out on Laserdisc briefly & was able to get a copy of it. So this copy here is actually the dvd I made from the ld.
It's here for everyone to enjoy now!
Happy Thanksgiving!
