Did you know that Eli is a castrated vampire?

well Eli was born male but was castrated and turned at the age of 12 by another vampire.. This is only hinted at in the film, without any elaboration, however, she does mention to Oscar twice that she "is not a girl" and asks him if he would like her anyway if this were the case. Also, in a brief scene in which Eli is changing into a dress, there is a shot of her pubic area, revealing that she has neither a penis nor a vaginal slit, rather a large, ugly scar.

The original was more of a fairytale.  The remake was more of a horror, been made by hammer that is

Just seen it. Beautiful film. I have to admit, I often find child actors unconvincing, but perhaps the lead roles of this film were the sort a child can convey well. Either that or the actors were just totally spectacular - especially the girl as Eli was brilliant.

I disagree with saying it's rare for a horror film to be good. It's just that people treats it as a B-movie genre, so we see alot of garbage amidst the good thing. It also depends on what your looking for be it campy and self-aware, dark and Gothic, serious, psychological, and artistic etc. You just have to be willing to keep an open mind and watch some older films. In terms of recent decades though this is DEFINATELY better than most of the movies from the 90's and 00's especially for vampires.
