The pilots on board joystick control inputs are sent to a computer which in turn controls the plane. That doesn't mean the plane isn't manned. I have never heard of an R/C airliner. Go listen to the captain's testimony. I'm sure he knows more than all of us. Just a bunch of trolls.

@bmwnasher I am aware when this Airbus was made and the reason it did not have winglets. Airbus only made about 20 or so A320s with no winglets. This particular incident was indeed manned. Yeah this was at an airshow. The pilots were doing a very slow and very low flyby and the computer took over and decided for itself that the pilots were landing so the plane took over and landed them in a forest! there were people onboard and 3 died from thick smoke. The rest got out. This was on aircrash investigation

Pilot Vs Plane - it has this video in it, its this plane... it was a demonstration yes, but one full of press and competition winners... @bmwnasher I am aware when this Airbus was made and the reason it did not have winglets. Airbus only made about 20 or so A320s with no winglets. This particular incident was indeed manned. Go search Air France flight 296. There were over 130 people on board, 3 of whom died. The very common misconception is that it was unmanned. Captain Asseline served 6 months in prison for it. Air France Flight 296 was a chartered flight of an Airbus A320 . On June 26, 1988. it was scheduled to fly low over Mulhouse-Habsheim Airport. it crashed into the tops of trees beyond the runway. The 2 pilots on board survived. 3 passengers died. Cause of the accident is disputed .
The common misconception of Air France 296 being an unmanned plane flown by a computer was created after TLC released a show without researching the crash appropriately . It certainly was a manned flight

According to the official report of the crash, 136 people were on board, and three died in this crash. Plenty of documentaries have proved this fact. The captain was okay after the crash but the first officer was seriously injured.

Sunday June 26, 1988, the airclub at Mulhouse-Habsheim in Alsace/France had organized with Air France a low approach of a brand new Airbus A320 in landing configuration. Michel Asseline was the pilot in command of F-GFKC, Pierre Mazière was his first officer, when the aircraft overflew the airfield at 2 pm in sunny weather. seconds later the aircraft touched the tops of the trees behind the runway and crashed into a forest. 3 passengers died in the accident and about 50 injured.

Yeah this was at an airshow. The pilots were doing a very slow and very low flyby and the computer took over and decided for itself that the pilots were landing so the plane took over and landed them in a forest! there were people onboard and 3 died from thick smoke. Pilot Vs Plane - it has this video in it, its this plane... it was a demonstration yes, but one full of press and competition winners... They don't do unmanned flight tests of passenger planes, the complexities are just too great and the technology isn't there now nevermind in 1988
