Australias perofrmance in WC06 was fantastic. They deserved to go to the 2nd round. Croatia (and Im Croatian through and through) were boring, uninventive and stagnant. Brazil are the worlds best and Japan are still boys playing a mans game. Still Australia could have beaten the Italians. I dont know if they cheated but they knew that Australia were no joke. Oh come on, Italy were all over them the whoe game, even when they got a player wrongly sent off they were still in control. As for the penalty, well i don't know, he definitey completely missed the ball and caught Grosso's left foot, in saying that he went down very easilly, could have gone either way but Italy deserved the win. The Aussies played well, but couldn't hang with the jamps in my opinion.

You have to understand that Soccer isn't even popular in Australia, compared with Aussie Rules, Rugby League, Cricket and even Tennis.
The fact that we progressed as far as we did, seeing that Soccer is our 5th best sport, is amazing. Our effort would be equivalent to the USA getting into the second round of a cricket world cup. If you think Australia had no chance of winning, you need to watch some more soccer mate!

But even in the Asia Cup when Australia got knocked out, all i read were articles condemning Asian referees and placing the blame on weather. Asian Cup had nothing to do with refs or weather. It was our teams attitude, the Asian Cup meant nothing to the players.
We certainly did have a chance to win the World Cup, and I think most teams were glad to see us knocked out. You just have to look at all our fine efforts leading up to world cup. Defeating Uruguay, Greece, Bahrain and drawing with the Netherlands. These teams aren't easy-beats. The fact that we outplayed eventual champs Italy, shows we can match it with the best in the world
