But, i just get so teary when i remember visayan songs. Maybe, i can remember my great grand mother, my grand mother and my grand father are all dead now. And the songs, reminds me when they used to sing this or sing it to put me to sleep. I was their favourate, because i was the first grand child...lol...GOD BLESS YOU ALL. VIVA PIT SENOR

  • Really? So who was the ignoramus who posted a -1 on my comment below? All my comments below were matter-of-fact.

    1. pre-hispanic records are hard to find.

    2. ALL Filipino kundimans have strong latin influence.

    3. Studies had shown that Cebuano has about 10,000 Spanish loan words. U can start w/ our Spanish number system.

So for those who disagree, ur obviously in a State of Denial. Go read up some more...

  • mao ni itogtog sa escuelahan sa elementaria sa talingting, siquijor sa dili pa magsugod ang program, maayo kay morag hingbalik akong kabaskog sa lawas

  • duardie2

Diba duna kanta nga Bayli tibuok kalibutan, kinsa gani kanta ani.

  • bulaklak02 si yoyoy villame or di ba max surban or si ruben tagalog mga "visayan songs"

  • Bayle Tibuok Kalibutan was by Yoyoy. I don't think I've heared Max sing that. Ruben Tagalog doesn't sing comedy/novelty songs as far as I know.

  • mabuhay mga visaya........ visaya onta atong national language kay daghan man talk visaya gud

  • paborito ito ng akin pinakamahal na tatay last dec10 2007,. namatay siya, masakit sa akin puso, salamt sa kanta na 2,

  • is there such thing as non-latin style visayan music or does that not exist anymore?

  • This is just an assumption but Tausug which is part of the Visayan language family might produce Muslim-based music. Not sure. They generally don't like to be called "Visayan" because it's associated with Hispanization/Catholicism. As for other styles of Visayan music. . .American. YUCK.

  • if ur referring to "indigenista"(non-latin), thence 'tis rare. Unless records exist written in Alibata.

Face it, the latin influence is strong in contemporary Cebuano culture w/ 'bout 10,000 spanish loan words. In both Tagalog & Cebuano kundimans, the influence is unavoidable. Or in most Filipino folksongs.

  • its only like that because people are not willing to dig deep into their true pre-colonial roots. cebuano culture was once exotic and great before the burden of western influence came about.

  • Contemporary Cebuano culture is still great. 'Tis a derivative of both the pre-colonial & colonial.

But yea, ur right. Few youngsters these days r interested even in the contemporary 50-100 year old kundimans we have; How much more for those songs beyond 300-400 years ago? It's doubtful if govt or the academics have the resources & willpower to search for these long lost treasures... But they should...

  • Nice. My first love was Visayan. I used to go to the fiesta's with her family. My father who was Ilocano was a friend of her Visayan father. They spoke Tagalog to each other.

  • hahahayyyyy, miss ko gyud ang cebu, my hometown, labi na karong pasko ug new year ug SINULOG!!!

  • Salamat Bai/Dai TH aning imong tampo...kahinumdom noon kos akong mga utang didtos Carbon...lol.

  • i hope more bisayan songs will be available on you tube, this is one way of helping our kids to know more on visayan culure specially visayang songs which are now rare to hear

  • yohoy!!! at last kita na jud kog bisaya nga kanta dri. salamat. i hope someone will post that song with lyrics that go like this -- "balud sa kapalaran hunong na..." salamat.

  • Ambot ug ngano . . . unsay hinungdan... nga mag kitoy-kitoy man akong mga tiil ug makadungog ko aning kantaha?

  • I've been looking for Susan Fuentes' "Miss Kita Kung Christmas." It will forever be a favorite song of mine during the Holidays and reminds me of 'Pasko sa Pinas' from 25+ years ago..."kahit na saan ako papaling paling ng tingin, walang katulad mo..."

  • Back then, when radio was mostly the source of entertainment the provice of Cebu, after lunch time would go to our neighbor and lay down down on the bench under the shade of their the house (made of bamboo and weaved coconut leaves) to listen to the radio playing cebuano songs like susan fuentes, Pilitia Corales, and Dulce songs. And when my neighbor would see me through their bamboo strips floor, sometimes I got lucky because they would invite me to eat banana cue or yam. I miss Cebu.

  • Hi Guys

I am full blooded English Boo Hoo But love this type of Musica, as I am half Filipino, I like to think so anyway, so please go ahead and put more of this fine music up sir we will listen. Mabuhay! Incidently I like the Pictures too. We want more, I also am a fan of Nana.

  • thank you for having susan fuentes' song posted here, nindot kaayo ang pagka-kanta niya. i really love visayan classic it reminds me my high school days in my hometown in surigao del sur. Musikero ko,natiguwang na ko diri sa abroad pagsigi'g tugtog ug mga kantang dili ato.Hinaut nga naa pud unta'y mag post ug kanta ni Dulce, daghang kaayong salamat.

  • Nana Mouskouri is the highest selling female recording artist of all time. Millions of people in every country in the world love her. Lots of Greek music is easily found in all of the major record stores but when I look of a Filipino CD there are only one or two and not very good ones at that. So stop complaining. Everyone loves Greece. They think it's romantic and blah blah blah. But hardly anyone cares about the Philippines. They just think that we're small brown Chinese people.

  • @toiletholder only few people knows nana mouskouri...most people knew karen carpenter, brenda lee, timi yuro, anne murray, shirley bassey, etc....and to think nana mouskouri is not comparable to this timeless female singers...

  • @Jawbee100 Make sure you do reasearch and make sure that what you're saying is actually true. You shouldn't make assumptions because she is not popular among people you know or that she is not popular in theUS. Nana Mouskouri was (and maybe still is) the female singer with the most number of units sold, even more than Madonna. You might not think that she's not as popular as Brenda Lee etc. because she is not popular in the States. She however is popular in almost every other country in the world

  • @Jawbee100 She is fluent in 6 or 7 languages and releases albums in these languages. This is my problem with a lot of Filipinos. They say things but don't think to make sure that what they're saying is accurate. This even shows in the packaging for a lot of Filipino music that I buy. Even the UP library catalogue doesn't have a standardized way of tagging their items.

  • If you have no interest in listening to these songs then don't click on them. It takes less than 10 seconds to scroll over the 12ish Visayan songs i've posted on youtube. Sorry to have inconvenienced you but my culture is dying.

  • I put Nana Mouskouri in the description because I thought that people who listen to Nana Mouskouri would appreciate this kind of music. I wanted to give my culture the exposure. This music is very hard to find and Filipinos let alone non-Filipinos don't listen to this anymore.

  • Finally. Susan F is here. Thanks..

  • what are you babbling about?
