i find lyrics relatively easy cos it's just basically poetry, i tend to make melodies quite boring, also i can do ballads but for some reason have trouble making upbeat/dance songs, probably bcos when i feel like dancing the last thing i want to do is write a song

Paolo Nutini makes happy worlds and sad sounds work beatifully check out 'These Streets' in which he uses a chord progression in all majors while singing about his homesickness. He also has a song with rather upbeat lyrics called 'Candy' which uses an all minor chord progression.

Totally! This is a template that will work with any style of music. There are little tweaks here and there with different styles but that's to be expected. Heavy metal you might to spend a little more time on the guitar part simply because it is the most profound and forward in your song.

I'm glad you asked! :)

First of all, don't think u r alone because the same thing happens to me. There are a couple of things you could do to help with this issue.

1) Get feedback and input from other songwriters. They might show you a different perspective that you didn't realize.

2) Get a rough draft done. Complete a song even if u aren't completely hapy with it. it will give you a starting template that you can work with. You can go on with changes from there.
