@nucflashevent : Hydro is not boiling water! But it is rare. I do agree that renewables are just not practical to completely displace nuclear in the medium term, unless there is a big breakthrough in technology that changes the equation completely.
The key here is to ensure we take sufficient steps to ensure we can prevent or lessen any environment disasters with the current nuclear plants.
I love how Environmentalists chide lay-people for being "to unimaginative" when they discus the TABBACLE that is renewable energy.
They expect us all to sit through lecture after lecture about this and that.
But when we talk about something THAT IS ACTUALLY BUILDABLE TODAY, they make fun of it and say "well, it's just an expensive way of boiling water".
THAT IS WHAT ALL POWER PLANTS ARE if you want to look at it in a Child-like ignorance of PHYSICS.
