i could see that being true, but cougars are able to kill prey 4 times there weight, so if it were to suprise attack the dog, it could stand a chance of killing it, i have seen cougars take on bears to protect there cubs.
My family raised Eng Mastiffs when I was a kid & I raise Neo Mastiffs as an adult. That's 30 yrs of experience. I also grew up in an area heavily populated by Mntn Lions. These are the facts. Mntn Lions CAN be scared off by larger animals that make a lot of noise. Making Mastiffs good companions. But in an actual fight no dog is any match for the K9 teeth, shredder teeth and 2" claws of an average 6' Mntn Lion. Not even a Mastiff. HUNTING jaguars is very different from FIGHTING jaguars.
