People arguing just seem uncivilized here. Americans have great respect for English humor, and often it's there inspiration especially faulty towers, Monty python, black adder and red dwarf. But at the same time i have a lot of respect for 'smart' American humor like Scrubs and M.A.S.H
by arguing you just seem a lot less educated and less cultured then the comedians we know and love. They have great respect for each others comedy and humor and you should try to too.

i don't get why people think americans have simple humor. we have some comedy gems even by british standards (arrested development, community, our version of the office, seinfeld, curb your enthusiasm, saturday night live)... even family guy or scrubs which is more low brow has some wit to it. yeah we have some shitty shows like two and a half men but then again so does britain.
well im british, i find scrubs and family guy hilarious, and simple things like that, but i also find things like blackadder, and father ted funny too, but the american comedy tv, is pretty much a watered down version of british, i mean, look at mr bean, slapstick humour, possibly the simplest form of humour on tv, and then theres scrubs, which is mr bean, with some drama and setting thrown in
I like comedy from both sides of the Atlantic. If your going to be biased and just pick one show that is lame and stupid and then tar everything else that comes from that particular country as lame and stupid then your being narrow minded. I love 'I'm Alan Partridge' but I also love 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' aswell. So in my opinion both nations are capable of producing great comedy.

Watch Steven Wright or even some George Carlin stuff. American humor does have plenty of irony, but is based heavily on satire. I caught a Ricky Gervais special, and a Jimmy Carr special, they assumed that either you like this, or you have no sense of humor. Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr aren't extremely funny to me.
I LOVE Graham Norton and Catherine Tate, they are most definitely my favorite comedians. But American comedians can be funny. Its just the ones that show up are mostly fagots like Dane Cook and Carrot Top. Ron White is some funny shit.

People arguing just seem uncivilized here. Americans have great respect for English humor, and often it's there inspiration especially faulty towers, Monty python, black adder and red dwarf. But at the same time i have a lot of respect for 'smart' American humor like Scrubs and M.A.S.H

Obviously you have been watching Dane Cook to learn about American comedy. It isn't like every American thinks yelling profanity into a microphone is hilarious. Watch Steven Wright or even some George Carlin stuff. American humor does have plenty of irony, but is based heavily on satire. I caught a Ricky Gervais special, and a Jimmy Carr special, they assumed that either you like this, or you have no sense of humor. Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr aren't extremely funny to me.

I LOVE Graham Norton and Catherine Tate, they are most definitely my favorite comedians. But American comedians can be funny. Its just the ones that show up are mostly fagots like Dane Cook and Carrot Top. Ron White is some funny shit.

British comedy such as Monthy Python influenced a whole generation of US comedians, not the other way around.
Meanwhile the fact that camble companies flood the channels worldwide with American sitcoms does not mean they are actually more appreciated. Ive yet to meet anyone who wont agree that British comedy has more to it than 'Fresh prince of Bell Air' and such.

George Carlin and Richard Pryor I happen to know, but almost no one you mentioned are well-known in Europe. So rest assured that most Europeans will agree with what I said.

As for Monthy Python, ive heard many American comedians give credit to them, the makers of South Park among others.

As a non-English European I can confirm what apestaartje321 said. American comedy is irrelevant compared to English comedy. America does not produce things like 'Absolutely Fabulous', 'Bottom', 'Fry and Laurie', etc.. thats where the quality humor is.
