However, Flair wasn't holding young talent down... he had no say in booking at that time. Also, Steiner wasn't going to put any company back on top. By the time he got the belt, he was as washed up as anyone you could name in WCW.

That's what I meant by him not doing it in over a decade... and that was his finisher! I guess that's why he does that pseudo-camel clutch now...

As far as whether Flair is a better worker or not... well, judging by your previous comment, I don't think you know what "working" even means. If you do, you certainly hide it well. "...booked to look like the greatest by his friends..." What the hell does that even mean? What friends? Jim Crockett? Dusty Rhodes? George Scott? How he was booked has no impact on whether he can work!!

But Flair is a better worker by far... the chops, eye pokes and beg offs are for a reason... to make the crowd hate him. Flair can get himself over, get his opponent over and have a good match with almost anyone. Steiner is offense driven, stiff and crippled up and wasn't the best seller... he hasn't been able to actually do a Frankensteiner in 10 years or more...

And surely you're kidding when you complain about his retirement not being permanent... how many wrestlers have stuck to such promises? Also, Flair was part of what drew in WCW, don't fool yourself!!! He was booked poorly is why he didn't make a bigger impact!!

@ontheroof99 : Um, I agree with the AOL comment, but Flair as champion drew exceptionally well... he drew big houses in Florida, World Class, Memphis, Georgia, etc... and he did it in a way that made each region's local star look much stronger than before... I haven't heard any instance where Flair was uncooperative when dropping the belt, except for Luger which was political... name your source, please!!

You can't judge anyone's importance by holding a belt at that point... and I will concede that Steiner is more of a legit athlete than Flair is, but by that point he was so crippled up his matches were lame... and his promos are terrible!! Also, a number of attributes could be pointed to as far as WCW's ratings, Booker T among them...

@DeepSouthWrestling1 However when Steiner made it to main event, WCW was already on its down swing and had terrible bookers like Russo writing the shows. I agree Flair has drawn much more in his day, but Scott was an entertaining heel and definitely is above average in the history of wrestling.

I mean, there's Steiner promo comps here on YouTube that make fun of how incoherent he is... his grasp of the english language is suspect at best...

It was more of a shock factor in that what kind of crazy shit was he going to come up this week. I think it really helped that 2nd hour of Nitro.

@ontheroof99 : Right, all that stuff is tag matches... except for the TNA stuff, which I've never watched. I'm sure Flair's match with "morgan" (whoever that is) was bad, but Flair's 60 years old!!! You're judging his career on his latest matches!!! Flair's matches from about '76 to around '90 are fantastic... better than any match Steiner was involved in.

@ontheroof99 : I suppose that's where we differ... I don't believe either Goldberg or Booker T had matches worth watching, with Steiner or without... at that point, WCW was unwatchable to me. Steiner's promos were horrible. He didn't talk people into the seats or into watching. His promos didn't push any feuds he was involved in. His pathetic "shoot" on Flair was embarrassing. His jealousy was prominently displayed. Do a search, his promos are made fun of constantly...

@ontheroof99 : There were a million things wrong with WCW and young talent not getting the proper push was only one. However, Flair wasn't holding young talent down... he had no say in booking at that time. Also, Steiner wasn't going to put any company back on top. He looked good, his matches were ok if you wrestled his match (he was pretty banged up at the time) and he couldn't promo. By the time he got the belt, he was as washed up as anyone you could name in WCW.

@ontheroof99 :Rick Steiner's heart was never really into wrestling... towards the end of WCW, he was worn out and just wanted to go hunting. Rick was definitely the more talented of the two, but he reached a point where he didn't give a shit. And, no Scott Steiner was not remotely better than Flair in any aspect of wrestling. Steiner was never once in a position where he had to draw, while Flair was for over 10 years.

The only thing interesting about Scott was how he could take so many steroids and his arms not literally explode. Ok, so some of the suplexes and junk were entertaining.
