Sounds kind of funny with English commentaries. Bandy is a very fun sport to watch, especially live when you hear the skates cutting the ice and everything. A lot mor fun to watch live than a hockey game, where 90 percent of the audience is there only to get away from their wifes and drink beer in the middle of the week.
Germany's climate would not support outdoor ice for more than one or two months. A nation with a subartic climate usually makes a good bandy-playing nation.
Jag vet, Jag vet. It's just that the English commentator got it wrong at the time (he can't know bandy that well and just read the name he had on the sheet, since Oksanen is usually in goal.
actually i think bandys pretty cool. i play ice hockey but ice hockey players could kill at bandy cause in ice hockey theres checkin and way less room to advance the puck, so us americans and canadiens could own
No, you could put the best NHL guys on the ice against Sweden or Russia and they would get carved up. These bandy guys are NHL caliber athletes.
I have been scored on by Holopainan (2nd goal in video) as well as several of these other guys. This video does not do justice to just how fast these guys move.
They are incredible...and no, you wouldn't 'kill' out there!
they are no faster than us ice hockey players...i will bet money on that. i think anyone who plays either sport would have a natural ability at the other the only difference is the ammount of space the bandhy rinks have
You are incorrect here. I just returned from Sweden where I attended both hockey and bandy events at the highest level. The reason bandy players are faster is that they sharpen their skates with a radius that leaves substantially more blade on the ice - essentially, like a speed skate. They can't make quick turns or quick starts/stops like hockey players...but they are substantially faster.
I played with Patrik Nilsson when I was a kid. He was and is one of the best players in the world. He was invincible when we were kids - absolute best.
And it gets irritating as more people seem turn their noses up at the idea of "playing outside" in winter, as though it were some type of insult. Don't get me wrong, they're all great sports, but bandy breaks this odd cultural status quo. It's like a breath of fresh cool winter air. Sorry my posts aren't in order.
Where I'm from the culture surrounding winter team stick sports is expected to take on particular characteristics as if it were gospel - ice rinks only, six positions, goal nets are roughly the same size, and physical contact, (or its absence in some cases) tends to be undermined by people who see its presence/absence as a marker of status rather than as a tool meant to achieve a strategic purpose.
so you think that bandy is a gay sport, okeeej, i mean norway is so good in many sport, hockey, bandy, football, motorsport(rally ok) so anyway norway sucks in almost every sport but not rally (wrc)
Check facts before you come out with a comment like that. Have you heard about wintersports? Every singel fucking olympics Norway wins most games then any other country. You are apparently fucking stupid that haven't noticed this. You're fucking unbeliveble. Who's the most winning athlete in Cross-country, Ski jump, Nordic. Btw, have you heard about Ole Einar Bjørndalen? The most winning athlete in the world
Have you ever played bandy? And.. dropouts from hockey? I'd bet that bandyplayers would do better in a hockeyrink than hockeyplayers would do on a bandypitch. You need stamina in bandy. Something hockeyplayers do not have.
In bandy they play with a orange ball as many others have said. Also to they who thinks it looks a lot like fotball (soccer), this sport was also created in England. One winter in the end of the 19th century some people that wanted to play football went out on a frozen lake with sticks and some red yarn and started playing the sport bandy. If you look close att balls youll se that it almost looks like many threads together as yarn. But in fact the balls is made of plastic and filled with cork.
Bandy originated in Cambridgeshire. 2 hockey teams had a match, but the pitch had flooded and froze(in the days when it got cold in England. The players went home and fetched their skates. That was how Bandy was invented. The goals are the same size as hockey goals, the corners are the same with all the defending players on the goal line and the bandy sticks are still slightly rounded. If anyone is in Stockholm from the middle of November till March go and see Hammarby play at Zinkensdamms IP
when did a bandy goals get the same size as a hockey-goal? I play bandy in one of the best teams in Sweden, and that's not the way bandy was invented!
Go and watch hockey or land hockey as you Swedes call it, NOT ice hockey. Have you seen land hockey? Have you seen a corner? The size of a hockey (land hockey)goal is 3.66 metres wide 2.14 metres high. A bandy goal is 3.5 metres wide and 2.1 metres high. You tell me how bandy (with rules and regulations)was invented.
I think in this sports there is soccer rules, like the soccer offside and "corner kicks" and "free kicks", its a combination of Icehockey and Soccer. Alltought i think both soccer and Icehockey are better than this.
what the hell is this seriously like its hockey but are the rules the same

I´ve seen Pasi Hiekkanen in so many games so I recognise him.
