Not all trucks have cross locks. Sometimes it helps to have the wheels turning slowly as it helps stop sand/mud piling up in front of the wheels. Too fast, though, and you just bury yourself again like this guy was doing.

I have never seen such a moron driver, rule 1 of dirt/ sand in a truck, do not bury the tyres once imobile, and engage cross locks, when being pulled, allow the puller to tow you out of the hazard zone under it own power!
