It's a specific genre under a sub-genre. It's like a sub-sub genre like melodic death metal and symphonic black metal. Progressive is a broad term and by progressive standards Iron Maiden and Metallica are prog metal as well. Djent has many different specifications and most are unique to that specific genre in the way they are used.

You dont really NEED a 7th string. They call them Extended Range guitars, and their exactly that. You have the monster drop tuned chug availability with the extra bass string, while keeping the standard 6 string tuning. No need to tune 2 and a half steps back and forth to keep your versatility, It's simple convenience. Plus 7s are fuckin sick lol

a baritone has a longer scale and therefore can use thinner strings for the same tuning, so it has LOTS of "broaar" and lots of boom and bassy bends.
