@guitarsbikesandpie I see what you're going for, being unpredictable etc. I love Rush, and I think Alex Lifeson is VERY underrated as a guitarist. This aside you can't call him the best guitarist out of this bunch. I personally hate guitar solos that consist of lots of notes in a very short period, so the speed guitarists do nothing for me, but you simply can't put aside the likes of Jimi Hendrix there. The man is a god.

I was really disappointed to not find any YES on your list. Steve Howe is absolutely one of the best guitarists on the planet. Not JUST rock, but overall. Could have done w/o Journey and Ozzy, and you evidentally have never heard of Toy Caldwell either. Allmans version of Crossroads is better too.

Ummm I think you could have chosen a better solo from Guns N Roses, "Sweet Child O Mine" is a good song but they have at least 10 awesome songs to choose from. I would say the solo in "Perfect Crime" is really good or the solo to "Welcome to the Jungle" for it's effects. Theres "Mr. Brownstone" has a crazy solo as does "Any Way Goes".
